Thief assassin elite specialize yes please, bring the beauty of combos back. Lead, off, and dual attack the way they were meant to be.

The cool thing is all of the dual attack skills from GW1 can translate directly to GW2. Life leech, knockdown, condition, daze, raw damage.

You already see a little of this in the new thief specialization but only on utility, we need cool abilities that combo like that on our weapon set.

A little off topic, I was just going to bump the post but then saw the post above me :P

No need for Canthat for that. And it wouldn’t even fit anymore. The Tengu city is just outside LA now. They just need to open the doors for us.

This. All they need (or at least would be preferable) is a Tengu tie in somehow with the story. Maybe the tengus city will get attacked by one of the dragons and they come to us for help or w/e.

That was intended to be part of the game, but cut before the day one release. It’s fairly unlikely that it is going to happen now, especially with the backlog of gear work required to make all the existing stuff fit on the Tengu…

Oh, I agree that it is not likely to have Tengu added any time soon if ever. I was just pointing out that IF they were to add them, Cantha wouldn’t have to be any part of that, and the domain of the 4 winds would be where they go. But I could see introducing them again, not as a playable race, but something like the exalted. A new faction to work with, they invite us into their city for whatever reason. We get to see a new map, more Tengu, just not playable, for all the design reasons why that would be unlikely.

wouldn’t it be great if the Deep See ED turns up somewhere around Cantha,
and Zhu Hanuku turns out to be it’s champion. I mean, it would make sense for a dragon champion to be so powerful that two clans with magical weapons could only annually incapacitate the beast. The elder dragon awake, and the Jade Sea melting could prove for the beast to become a much greater threat. And now that they’ve made so many enemies with the rest of the world, I think Cantha could actually turn into a ruinous state for us to rescue. (maybe a civil war?)

Two problems with the Zhu Hanuku theory:

1. Only the Luxons slayed it, using the Spear of Archemorus.
2. Zhu Hanuku shows none of the traits other champions exhibit (commanding a specific creature type, for instance).

I think it would be FASCINATING to see what Cantha would do with the dragons, particularly because Kuunavang helped lead the Weh no Su to slay Shiro Tagachi (himself a servant of Abbadon…himself a fallen god, angry at the chaining of magic by both gods and dragons). How interesting it would be if Shiro’s powers ACTUALLY came from a Dragon, and the Jade Wind was a result of the Deep Sea Dragon’s influence…

Kuunavang, however, acted (presumably) without ANY influence from anyone, simply trying to help save Cantha (her Jade Wind corruption notwithstanding). In fact, it could be her that helps lead the Kurzicks and the Luxons on a bloody civil war against the Empire, attempting to unite all people to fight the DSD.

Of course, that’s just a fanboy theory. But we’ve already lost one cool dragon…don’t take another!

okay, true that

that can be explained by stasis. The luxons incapacitate him everytime he reawakens so he might just not have the time/strength to make minions

There are people with Canthan ancestry in Tyria. Since it’s very likely they came over in a boat and that some were sailers or boatmakers it’s not that surprising if they still have old Canthan boats or build new boats with the Canthan style.

Guys, there is a pefectly normal explanation for a canthan looking boat outside of cantha. And that is that people originally from cantha moved to and traded with Kryta and all the other human nations (well, maybe except Ascalon, seeing as they walled themselves in pretty good) before that crazy-ass emperor they got after GW1 closed the borders. Which is why we could see some pretty asian looking guys in Kryta and Elona back in GW1.

So yeah, with people with canthan heritage all around the world, why not build a ship looking like they did in the homeland of your ancestors? Nothing really special about it

Move along, nothing to see here

Simple, curved, wooden base. Large, segmented sails. Looks more like this boat to me:
http://wallup.net/guild-wars-2-concept-art-boat-lake-trees/ (Guild wars 2 Bloodtide Coast loading screen. Not Canthan)
Or maybe this boat: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Consulate_Docks_loading_screen.jpg (sails a bit different, but the base is the same. Also from a loading screen. From Consulate Docks in Elona.)
Or even this boat! The sails are pretty identical, although the body is harder to see and has a cabin: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Chahbek_Village_loading_screen.jpg (Also from Elona)

The point here is, while I like hype and tenuous links as much as anyone, I feel like people are REALLLLY grasping at this Cantha thing over nothing. This is an INCREDIBLY generic boat design with features that Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 have used over and over for MANY different places. The boats I linked aren’t exactly spitting images of the teased ep:6 boat, but look far more similar than the squared Canthan sailing ships posted above. This boat is no more Canthan than literally any other sea faring vessel we’ve seen in GW2 so far.

Guild Wars 2 – Empire of the Dragon

It would be awesome if the next expansion will be set in Cantha and most of the content is going to be set above clouds so I can glide forever. Flying mounts would be awesome here.

This content is going to mainly be set in the skies where Zephyrites and Tengus are our allies. Most of the civilization will be built above the clouds because I guess Zhaitan destroyed most of their land the moment he arose. Tengus finding some ancient artifact giving them the ability to fly again.

Beautiful skies, Asian architecture, Zephyrite airships, New Factions, Jade Sea, Jade Dragons, Siege Turtles, and a flock of Tengus flying!

After Elona, I think Cantha is definitely an option for the next expansion. Cantha would actually be a perfect battle ground for the us to fight the Water Dragon, and the Empire of the Dragon, which is likely very corrupt and evil by now. Which is why I’m going to, for the next few weeks or so, tell what I think it should be all about, because it would really work:

Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South

Many years ago, a dragon of death rose from the seas, and a huge wave spread in all directions. It traveled to the north, destroying Lion’s Arch and much of coastal civilization. But it also went south, far south, until it smashed into Cantha’s great capital, Kaineng City, and sent it crashing to the bottom of the Ocean. The Empire of the Dragon abandoned the rest of the city, along with the desperate, broken people, and moved to a new capital. It also, for the most part, left it’s Kurzick and Luxon servants, abandoning the mainland of Cantha. The Kurzicks and Luxons did not fight, for they did not remember such things. They had been forced into the Empire for hundreds of years, until now. Instead, they plotted silently, with the people of ruined Kaineng, to one day overthrow the Empire. Unknown to them, you have been tracking the Water Dragon, which poses a huge threat to Tyria and your new Elonian allies. It is heading to the south, and with the undead fleet mostly destroyed and the path clear, it looks like you’re following it to Cantha.

New Features:

New Race

New Elite Specializations

New Mastery

New Zones

It is possible to be cantha cause there was a mission involving the tyria gods, guess we need see PoF ending first before any assumption.

Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South

New Race: Tengu

The Tengu have always been that race that everyone wanted, but never really made it. This expansion would be the perfect place to introduce them as a playable one.

Starting Area: Shing Jea Island (Instanced)

As a Tengu, you’re story would begin before the rise of the Death Dragon, in the western part of Shing Jea Island. The tutorial, along with the first personal story chapter, would take place here. Once you finished the first chapter, and came of level, you could go to present day Tyria (via a ship to the old Lion’s Arch in the story). However, you cannot go back, and none of the other races can go either, as that area is in the past. It acts similarly to Pre-Searing Ascalon in Guild Wars 1.

Capital: Dominion of Winds

This is obvious, as it is just the right size for a capital city, and is the haven of all Tengu. You would be transported here after choosing to leave the starting area, and be able to go to any nearby area you wish to start exploring and such. The city would be open to all races at this point (like the other capital cities).

Personal Story

Like I said earlier, Chapter 1 would take place in the isntanced starting area. Chapter 2 and 3 would take place in present day Tyria, but be Tengu specific. The rest would be like any other race (joining an order, fighting the Death Dragon etc). Of course you would get choices in character creation regarding the Tengu race like any other race.

Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South

This post is describing the first Elite Specialization in my idea for what they should do for a Canthan expansion. This is probably the most obvious one that first came to me: the Ritualist. Here is the first Elite Specialization for Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South:

Elite Specialization: The Ritualist

Revenants coming to the lands of Cantha will find themselves embracing the legendary spirit of Master Togo, becoming Ritualists. Ritualists can use a Scepter to access new spells, and use a new Utility Skill Type: Urns. Urns contain the ashes of the great heroes of Canthan histroy, and allow Ritualists to have a certain boon when carrying them. When dropped, Urns create an effect, wether it be healing everyone around them or blinding foes near it.

The purpose of Elite Specializations is, as many designers have said, to make the profession almost feel like a different one. The Revenant is a very good opportunity to bring back the old Ritualist profession from Guild Wars 1. This seemed like the perfect Elite Spec for the Revenant, being both blind and having a strong connection with the Mists.

Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South

The second Elite Specialization I’d like to introduce in what they should do for a Canthan expansion is the Oracle:

Elite Specialization: The Oracle

For hundreds of years in Cantha, fortune tellers have supposedly been able to tell the future, and tell people their fortunes. Wether their tellings are true or not, Mesmers coming to Cantha seem to have found a way to see the future, to a degree. What might surprise most people though is that they have also found out how to control it. These Mesmers have quickly become known as Oracles. Oracles can use War-Horns to use new off-hand spells, and gain access to a new Utility-Skill type: Fortunes. Fortunes are placed on friend or foe with an initial effect, and also place a dormant Fortune on them, that the Oracle can activate when ever they wish (as long as the target is still alive). An example is one that deals a small amount of damage at first, and when activated deals a larger amount of damage along with a poison condition.

I felt like this would be perfect for the Mesmer, as Mesmers aesthetically are similar to fortune tellers, and deal with time related magic. Also, the elite specialization is very Canthan inspired. The new Fortune skill sounded like a fun new thing for Mesmers to be able to use, and since the Revenant got a new Utility-Skill Type, it only seemed fair to give some of the other professions new ones to.

Keep checking this forum, I’ll be posting about the Necromancer Elite Spec next.

Cantha was where I started guild wars, my parents had played prophecies and only allowed me to play when cantha happened. I remember that campaign so well, the areas and all had me immersed from start to finish. This needs to happen and I would gladly pay for the collectors edition, no questions needed. Hell it would not even need new Elite specs or anything, Id buy it because its cantha…. and Id hope for playable tengu ;o.

Tengu know the way to cantha… could open the dominion of winds in the living story leading up too it, closes two whole loose ends. Expansion drops, tengu become playable in similar fashion to how the revenant appeared with rytlock. ( this time Tengu are coming to lead us to factions, the living story could totally set it up beautifully)

I think Urns would not work as nicely as in GW1.
Ritualist was a caster profession, and main source of damage he did was from his spells, which could be cast even with having an urn in his hands.
Revenant must use his weapon to deal damage, and if his hands would be occupied by Urn, what else he could do besides dropping it?

I think PoF proved that players are more interested in GW1 related expansions than new areas – HoT.

Cantha needs to come back.

It hasn’t proven anything yet, it’s not even out. And i’d rather have new zone that aren’t limited by designs of old GW1.
