I was in China during the Chinese release, over there they use a different client.
A gw2 acc in china is 88 yuan (lol 88 hence the universal lucky number in chinese culture) which is about 9 UK pounds or around 15 USD which is very cheap. I have an EU acc, i brought my laptop with me while traveling over there so i use the normal client that we all use. however it was extremely laggy since I’m connecting to the EU server.

i wanted to play GW2 because i had a lot of free time and i wanted to play the new season 2 stuff but i couldn’t cos it was so laggy (my internet connection was rubbish which only made it worse). the internet cafes in china generally have very good internet connections and every internet cafe have gw2 on their computers well the chinese client. i thought i could log on and instead connecting to the chinese server i would connect to the eu server, since the good internet connection i thought it would help with the lag.

i went to a internet cafe and tried to login and only found out i couldn’t login at all! how come? I’m going china again soon and i don’t want to miss season 2, is there anything the devs could do to make the EU and US acc be able to use the chinese client to access the EU or US servers?

It’s unlikely. They are separate systems, with some things (like VIP status) specific to China. They also have separate trading posts. So as I understand it, you would need a Chinese account to play the Chinese servers, and EU/NA to play those.

I know you can transfer your account between NA and EU when necessary, but I don’t think you can add China to that mix — probably there are huge economic in-game disasters waiting to happen if that were allowed.

The Chinese servers are separate from the rest of the world.

You could transfer your account to the US while in China, as the connection is much better.

Other than that, try a VPN (which is a must for foreigners working there). That should help with the connectivity.

All MMO-type game servers that operate legally in China must have a server on Chinese soil and inside the Great Firewall.

The Chinese version of the game is an entirely separate thing. You cannot log on to the chinese version through the NA/EU client, and you can’t log on to the NA/EU client through the chinese version.
