The Daily DDOS has started.
What in the ####ing #### has ANet done to deserve these attacks? This is so not cool on so many levels. I can think of a gazillion other companies that are more deserving of this than them.

Yep…. It appears so…
Consumed Hate – Thief
Unlucky Scrub – Ranger

GW2 isn’t the only game using those servers.

It’s an attack on NCSoft. As long as GW2 uses NCSoft servers it will always be attacked. They need to get their own servers not linked to NCSoft in order to take care of this problem, but that involves spending time and money, and my guess is that money is to pay developers, and other employees.
I’d venture to say that whomever is behind it has not/does not play Guild Wars 2.
Otherwise they’d have timed this daily attack for server reset.

Of course they use NCSOFT servers out of the same data center in NA that Wildstar, B&S and the rest of their games with a NA region (MxM). This way NCSOFT can assign resources to whatever game is currently the hottest. It’s all virtual servers anyways. Every map instance is another “server”, spun up and shut down as needed.

AFAIK these attacks only just started recently.

The point being it may be directed and NCSOFT as a whole or any of their other games hosted at the same data center.

To be honest, i don’t recall ever having any ddos attacks until after the election and after anet make a joke about it lol. I’m sure we did they were just never given a name lol.

Er, I can leave a long list of reasons, would probably get infracted though.
FF14 has been experiencing these attacks for the past month. Ubisoft had the same issue a couple weeks ago.
I couldn’t login for a while yesterday but other than that, I have no issues at all, no lag or dc. I’m from Europe so I guess the attacks mostly happen when it’s afternoon in America. I’m not saying that’s okay, this has to stop! F*** people who ruin other people’s fun!

Well they did release HoT. Current Broham’s story arc is criminally bad too.
Probably nothing. People just like to see the world burn and ddos is the easiest way to do that.

Oh, they definitely happened before the election. :p

‘Deserving’ is not part of the calculus.
For over two weeks now this has been an issue and the game is unplayable. Unless Anet solves it, it will kill the game. The attackers only do it during prime time.
Oh wise one please tell us how to stop a DDOS? Hint. Google the acronym.
As far as I know most DDoS attacks aren’t instigated by people who play the game, and therefore aren’t intended as a ‘protest’ against anything the company has or has not done. It’s basically the server equivalent of hacking a website and replacing the home page with a screen that says “You’ve been hacked by some no-lifer! Lol! I am so cool!”
The aim is…well, exactly what’s happening here – they get to see a bunch of people talking about what they’ve done (OMG such an achievement).
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Maybe it’s for Net Neutrality awareness?
As far as I gather multiple MMOs have been ddosed continously for a month now, but as specific developers start to block it, the attacks have shifted to ISPs on a higher level, which probably make it impact even more stuff. I have no idea why GW2 would be a target other than the obvious choice, NCSoft. Maybe someone didnt get that perma thing from their $1000 worth of keys, I dont know.
Probably all this ddos that hits multiple mmo games are done to bring awarness to net neutrality. The ones that ddos the servers want to say to the gaming community ‘’here take a sample of what internet will be after net neutrality is aproved since you didnt act’’.
Just my thoughts.

I hope not because it is a truly moronic prospect for someone to potentially hurt multiple businesses that have nothing to do with controlling the internet in order to get people to pay attention to net neutrality. But then the people denying the service do NOTHING to inform the people they are denying what the point is.
These are either just the normal internet hacking trolls getting kicks, or the stupidest protesters who don’t tell anyone the reason for the protest.
