The Dredge: Always challenging
Whoever programmed them? The AI in this game is very basic, they aren’t tough because of that.
Dredge are tough because they hit hard, often and take longer to kill than most other mobs. That has nothing to do with smart programming.
This game is all about the stats
I’m still waiting for an army of Risen/Icebrood Dredge to wash over our pitiful Pact defenses and force us to bow down to our new overlords.
I don’t really get why people say Dredge are “impossible” or even “hard”. They go squish just like everything else when I smack them around with my weapon of choice.
Do you even lift, bro?
So I barely escape a bunch of these things out in the wild (outside a fort) and run off to find another fort with vendors in it. While there all the NPC’s suddenly go ‘hide’ because of a upcoming Dredge siege. What to do? No other players around to help.
Figuring the Dredge are ‘ground based’, I found a wall to jump on and spammed them with my bow (while constantly switching my squishy pets). In this fashion I was able to ‘solo’ the event and even get a Gold achievement while not getting knocked down once! So, if you got some Dredge bothering you – find something to stand on.
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.

Where is the fun in that? I have no problem with dredge on any of my chars (well, my elementalist has some difficulty) and not seldom run past a heap of them places like dredgehaunt cliffs as well as soloing several dredgebased events.
Colin Johansen hits you for 239407889 damage
Game over
the humans in CM Path 3 >_> who ever made that should be shot.
Dredge should all die- seriously I go nuts when I see them. They give good loot though
Nightmare Court is pretty hard- they gave me a bit of trouble when I made my Sylvari- I was surprised to see enemies like that in a starter zone
Blind immunity makes me cry T_T
Embers Hit hard , Also risen wizards with the blind spam
I agree with the OP. I enjoyed getting the Dostoev Sky Vista due to the challenges presented by the Dredge. As an elementalist though I have to go full pelt against them all to take them down (i.e. no holding back of certain skills/Combos), which can be mentally draining after a while. So yes very challenging.
Really. Some may say overpower or too hard to kill, I say they are the most challenging race you can fight!
Whoever programmed them, congrats, they are really hard, most notably when grouped (SE, or dredge fractal), and overall in the game the hardest mobs to kill (I’m not counting Orr, risen are just annoying).
So, what mobs do you find hard to deal with?
Not counting “PvE is too easy” kinds of posts, please, step back.
the onlt thing about dredge areas that makes them hard is re-spawn timers imo. which is poor design not great mob creation

Yeah, 1v1 they’re not bad. The biggest “challenge” is when they get into groups of, say, 15-20+ and there is literally crap flying everywhere. The dredge fractal on either side where you have to break through the doors are a prime example of this.
Dredge are no harder than most other mobs, imo. The real pain are the Ice Imps, they hit about 5x harder than most other mobs and are just an all-round pain in the kitten
Vayra – Elementalist
Forkrul Assail – Mesmer
The things that make dredge bothersome for me are their immunity to blindness, and their resonators that love to spam the launch attack. Never mind that they have no idea about safety rails or similar in their construction efforts…

Shadow imps are pretty bad too, with their poison attacks. Going back to get the achievement for Windy Cave treasure or w/e its called was quite the adventure since not nearly as many people were doing it when I did it back when I was lvl 40 or so. Those dang veteran shadow imps and its minions/altars. So annoying.
Imps are annoying.
Dredge are pretty annoying.
Orr mobs that stun.
There were far more annoying monsters in GW1 though (I’ve made a list, which is at home on my computer). Let’s just say I hope afflicted (they are on my list) don’t come back somehow in the cantha content of GW2 – dragon corrupted afflicted..that would be fun.
I love the dredge, even though I rely on blinds alot and have to adjust whenever facing them.
Something that can help in facing dredge is focus targeting, CCs and boon removal on disaggregators. A single disaggregator (i think those are the ones with the gongs) can spread protection, regeneration, might, retaliation, etc. to HUGE numbers of dredge (this definitely happens in SE and the dredge fractal). Single out and burn/interrupt/cc the dissaggregators and use any utilities that remove/convert/etc, boons on enemies (mesmer null fields and necro wells are awesome at this) and they become easier.
As far as other mobs that cause me issues – the new drakes in Southsun that do the AOE confusion and massive condition damage are a real challenge (really fun though).

Hahah I like the comments here, I just find dredge very interesting and challenging considering a first sight fight, I mean the very first time I encountered them, I said challenging because it’s not just strong 6-shots or 1-shot stuff, when they’re grouped you have to know how to kite well specially the resonators messing the whole area!
Oh, I feel ashamed for getting downed by asura fractal’s rabbit. blush

You’re forgiven for the first down on the rabbit! Second one? Fired.
Unfortunately kiting doesn’t entirely work for the dredge. Every time I’ve seen LOADS of the things, the best strategy is to just get out of dodge. Find a way to get away, then work on picking them off a bit at a time if you have to.
Honestly they’re not all that hard to KILL, they just do a lot of damage when you find them in groups.
They aren’t hard if you have boon rips, half their power and resilience comes from the boons they keep up. Bring a competent mesmer or necro and let them soften those ugly mole rats up for you.
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
They are my favorite enemy to fight on my necromancer, they die so easy.
But yeah, if you have any kind of skill to remove boons, they are mincemeat.

I actually did NOT know this. Thanks for the tip.
Destroyer crabs. They have a hidden haste and swiftness effect on them and will wreck your melee character’s face.
Just about every imp. They always come in groups and have 10 stacks of hidden might on them.

This x100.
What I hate about the dredge really, above everything is the immunity to blind.
Makes fights in groups with them a lot more painful. (didn’t say difficult)
Never mind that they have no idea about safety rails or similar in their construction efforts…
lol So true…fargin bastiges.
