Ok, there is an epic thread to bring about a way to get to Cantha, however the Elonian thread has somehow disappeared into the mists. So, in order to give Elona a fair shake, here’s a new thread.

I would love to go to Cantha, and I do hope it opens up for us at some point. Having said that, I think I would rather go to Elona. I think, as far as existing lore goes, it would be more feasible…

There is already a crack in the doorway, so to speak in the form of a refugee and self-proclaimed prophet in the Black Citadel “basement” named Alain. He is one of the Al’Seen and can be found in the Gladium Canton.

According to Alain, it was prophesied over three hundred years ago that an Elonian, long from home and living beneath steel, would rise and lead his people back to the Crystal Desert.

Evidently, Alain thinks he is going to be this “hero” to lead his people back to Elona.

So, if we were to speculate on returning to Elona:

1. There would have to be an elderly Elonian “hero” to lead us back there. A new, level 80 PS line could take us back there to free Elona from Palawa Joko and Kralkatorrik.

2. New “Elonian” skills and skins.

3. A new way to implement undead. These would absolutely need to be different than Risen. More like skeletons, spectres, and hellhounds (some of them tamable for rangers) and maybe Margonites or Forgotten like we saw in GW1 (among other places.) Add a few smite crawler-type mobs and a wurm or two for getting through the desert, and you get the idea.

4. A reason to go there. According to Lore, 50 years ago is the last wave of refugees from Elona. Maybe the Order of Whispers (of which there are still ways for them to get there) found settlements on the old island of Istan and we have to go rescue them? Maybe the kingdoms of Vabbi have risen above the sands, and the Priory wants to study them? Maybe the Vigil decided to launch a pre-emptive attack because they thought Palawa Joko was going to breach the Dragonbrand? Or maybe, a simple case of “So-and-so found a trail, and guess what he saw,” which stirred up Palawa’s armies and we have to defend the existing Tyria from them?

5. Finally, an epic end-game style battle with Kralk. Not like the one we had with Zhaitan. We need an actual battle on the order of Tequatl in order to kill him, or maybe a 20-player raid-style instance. Oh… and the rewards would have to MATCH the effort it takes. I would love to see a unique weapon or (complete) armor skin that you can ONLY get from defeating Kralk.

Right now, the land of Tyria has no real desert zone. Everything is jungles, or middle European forests and vales. We could use Elona, and I would daresay that we need it more than we need Cantha.

What say you all?

hmm. interesting idea but i like the expansion to go different directions ,it would give the world much more variety and story much more interesting, i suggest:

I never played GW1 so I don’t really know what’s what with the old places but from what I’ve read I think I’d prefer Elona to Cantha. I like all the ideas.

Plus, there’s that gate right outside Ebonhawke that does my head in every time I see it! It needs to be opened.

You know that the Crystal Desert is part of Joko’s Domain? If not, then at the very least a good portion of its southern border is in his control, so returning to Elona could very well involve gaining access to the Crystal Desert.
Also, people can ask for whatever they want, and it’s clear that there’s a good amount asking for Cantha, so telling them to not to is going on deaf ears.

I’ve never understood the fascination with Cantha. I hated Kaineng City…ugh. Though, the Jade Sea and Echovald Forest were ok. And Factions was my least favorite Campaign.

I’d much rather go to Elona with the Crystal Desert. So, here’s to revisiting some of my favorite parts of Tyria!

I was just having a look at the map. Maybe one or two Trees (or three!) down there along the Elon river? Plenty of things they could do with that space.

I think at this point, ANY new territory would be good. I would love to go to the Isle of Janthir (that’s the place north of DR) or the Far Shiverpeaks, or the Crystal Desert, or the Ring of Fire.

However, this thread is about Elona. I feel that if the Order of Whispers has access already, that it’s more likely for us to go there before we get to Cantha.

Yes, there’s a lot of the existing world that we have yet to see, but speculation is fun.

I want cantha.

I don’t wan’t the next expansion to be a giant desert like the Sahara.
Give me the city, the island, the jade sea, and the forest.

I would be careful about putting too much faith in “The Cantha Thread”.

Many months ago I was wondering on how that thread keep ending up on the front page so I did a bit of digging:

I went thru each post for about 20 pages(yes, yes I know, get a life) and just listed who was posting. It turns out that there is a very small group of people who switch off bump posting when the topic drops off the front page. The weekends they let the masses post but come Monday morning someone makes a no content bump post to bring it back to the front from a few pages down.

If you want proof you will have do the digging yourself. As an example, you will find one person who has over 100 strategically timed posts to bump the thread.

But I digresss, we are here to talk about Elona.

If given the option of Elona or Cantha, I would have to pick Elona.
It may have something to do with GW1’s Nightfall being my first experience into MMOesque world as the reason for the desire to see Vabbi again. Or it might be the fact that it took me forever to get out of Kaineng City which may have tainted my experience of Cantha.

Either one would be a nice addition but my vote would need to go toward Elona.

Just a side note… Don’t forget about the Northern Shiverpeaks, Eye of the North was a great addition too. Arguably in the same potential caliber as Elona.

Fan dedication. It’s been up for over a year now. Few people are ever going to make threads about Isles of Janthir, Scavenger’s Causeway, Crystal Desert etc. but there will ALWAYS be a Cantha thread. No matter what. Especially considering the disappointing news concerning the exclusion of Canthan and it’s respective district in DR from the final game; making Cantha more under threat of never being included into GW2 than Elona. The more important thing to take note is how many views it has had, there’s no point talking about Cantha now considering there is actually nothing to talk about it other than what we already know. I’ve never posted in it but I do lurk in there from time to time to see the current state of it.

Cantha has been integral to the GW franchise just as much as Elona and the Far Shiverpeaks. It’s a significant waste if it is not used considering how much lore, nostalgia and potential surrounds it.

Why not have all of them? Cantha, Elona, all the rest of the fogged areas on the continent of Tyria. I see no reason for them not to, all of these make up the world of Tyria, so it would be very silly for them not to eventually be included. Obviously they can’t release every area at once, but they can do it one continent at a time. So I think we just have to be patient, it does take a while to make a whole map. Granted, it certainly can’t hurt to share your experiences with your favorite areas here. For me personally, I probably have too many favorites to list… I love the Sage Lands in the Maguuma Jungle, the entire Crystal desert, the seas around Cantha, all of Shing Jea Island, Wajjun Bazaar, Vabbi, Mehtani Keys, the Desolation…and of course, pre-searing Ascalon, Wizard’s Folly especially, it was beautiful. I could go on and on.
