First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the fact that this topic is neither related to the game nor to the forums. As such, if this thread gets moved or closed by the forum members here, I completely understand.

So what’s going on?

Some of you may have noticed that the English wiki has a banner across the top saying that there is a request for adminship currently on going. A link to the page can be found here, and a link to its talk page is here. A Request for Adminship, or RfA, is the process by which the player community gives another community member an administrative role on the wiki.

So what’s an admin?

Admins on the wiki are similar to moderators on these forums. They’re active in the day-to-day clean-up of the wiki, and step in whenever issues cannot resolve themselves. On the forums, the general user does not know who the moderators are, but on the wiki we make a clear list. Moderators on the forums are reached privately via an email, while wiki admins are generally reached via the Admin Noticeboard (though if the situation warrants you may absolutely email the wiki admins directly).

More details on admins can be found here if you’re interested.

So why you should care?

Well, that’s a personal choice. The wiki is a player-built resource, managed by players for players. Not everything ticks by smoothly, conflicts do arise, and environments can turn negative or unwelcoming. We rely on the admin team to help resolve these issues when those involved cannot do it themselves. But you, the general user of the wiki, should have some say in who has administrative powers.

A few wrapping up points:

Contributors who are admins are contributors who sometimes have to put on an additional hat, but we don’t give out those hats freely, and your input is invaluable. This forum thread is not the place to discuss the contributor nor the RfA. If you have questions or concerns about either you can bring them to the RfA talk page. If you would like to make a statement about the contributor’s possible adminship you can bring it to the the RfA page itself. And no, you do not need to create an account to contribute to the discussion.

Finally, if you’re not too sure how to contribute (e.g. that darn wiki-code is in the way), let us know below and we’ll gladly help remove that barrier.

Thank you.
