Does anyone know if the Core game (the one we all are playing right now) will still be playable after the launch of the new Heart of Thorns Expansion?

So if I don’t upgrade my account how will I interact in game with friends that have?

Seems odd that one set of combat skills used in expansion could interact with another set non-expansion.

You will be able to interact with them anywhere except in the new HoT zones in the same way you have interacted with them in the past.

Sorry, I take it that the new skills and what not that are being implemented are for all versions of the game, is that correct?

Log in tomorrow after the patch where we all get the new traits/skills, etc.

Unless, of course, you are talking about Elite Specializations which will be available after HoT releases to HoT-purchasers. Those skills, etc. will be able to be interacted with just as one profession can interact with another. No difference. Just as you can counter a Ranger’s skills with a Guardian’s skills, you can counter a Druid’s skills with a Guardian’s skills. (You may have to learn how to counter new skills, but you will still be able to do so.)

Good luck.

As far as we know, no. The Elite Specializations and their related traits and skills are for HoT players only. Core Specializations – which is a revamp of the trait lines – is added for all players and goes live tomorrow. The core specialization does not give anything new – it’s merely a rebalance, which features merging traits and/or skills together in a manner that will allow Anet to easily add more trait lines (the Elite Specializations) in the future. They call them Specializations, but really it’s just trait lines.

Buying HoT will only give you access to the Elite Specializations and HoT areas; not buying HoT merely restricts you from them. HoT players can still access the core game, where you will be restricted to if you don’t buy HoT.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Not buying will also restrict that account from progressing the mastery system. That person won’t be able to craft a precursors or do the mastery system tied to fractals as well as any others for the vanilla area.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
