The GW2 mouse interface vs. GW1
Apparently click-to-move is difficult to program in a 3-D world, and especially underwater.
To be honest, though, I find I prefer not having click-to-move because I don’t wind up accidentally clicking somewhere and going there. I’m comfortable now with the WASD and autorun, and it works fine for me.
What I do miss is being able to select an NPC or interactable object, press the spacebar, and have my character walk over to the NPC or object.
Agreed. in simpler terms – Pathfinding algorithms do not exist for controlled characters. Only NPC’s/Enemies AI.
Programming difficulty aside, there’s also the fact that the GW2 control scheme is what most MMOs use and therefore what most players are used to. The GW1 control scheme is very difficult for someone used to typical MMOs to adapt to and is one of the main reasons I didn’t play it much. The GW1 control scheme is also very impractical for a platformer, which is a big element of GW2.
If you had the NPC pathfinding on your character, you’d pull out your hair after 5 minutes.
Thanks for the replies, but most of what was said was kinda Greek to me. GW1 was a 3D environment was it not?, and a LOT of people played (and still do) GW1 so they must have liked it.
I think the programmers did an awesome job with GW1 and I loved all of the world and the interface worked great for me. Maybe I’m just an old fart (not telling my age) who is not used to newfangled interfaces. I would have thought that GW2 was the old way and GW1 was the new and improved

The first time you played anything, you had to learn the controls, and then how to win.
Try that again.
