First off I have to state that the link to the actual “golden rules of Guild Wars 2” is dead.

This is from an article posted 7/12 at Massively
http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/07/03/arenanet-explains-golden-rules-of-guild-wars-2/

1) Make the world a living world.

To me they have done this through not only the basic game but to holiday events and other things that happen within the game.

2) Cooperation is key

Due to the recent updates I feel they are heading back toward this but I still feel there is more room for improvement

3) Play the game not the UI

This they have done. Many folks though still wish to play the UI and want to clutter up the screen with new bars. This is one thing I hope the do not do. Adding a button or three maybe, but no more.

4) let the devs experiment with new ideas.

To me here too I feel they have done a good job. Could so things be different? Have some things changed since launch? to both of these I would say yes, but I feel in a good way.

5) “do it well or don’t do it at all”

This they have done. The statement “When it is ready” was thrown at us for months before launch and I again state that this game had the smoothest (though not perfect) launch of a game I have even encountered in my 20 years of playing MMOs.

6) “respect the player”

this one needs more work. Overall I would give them a 8.5/10 on this one but there is still that 1.5/10 that needs to be worked on. When it comes to MMOs taking care of your player bases should always be a 10/10.

Now many in the forums will argue this, but that is due to it being the forums, which is listened too just not as much as they wish it would be. I actually feel they are given the amount of credit they deserve.

I’ll agree with you that the game’s launch was a smooth one. The game, the engine, the world was all very polished at release. There were bugs, as to be expected. But seven months in, the honeymoon period is now coming to a close. That some of the bugs present at release still persist is starting to be an issue. It’s past time to clean up things like nonfunctional traits.

The map completion hearts are anti-living world, IMHO.

They should have not had them at all, and instead have had event chains be connected throughout the entire map, so that any event in any corner of the map would have some degree of relation to any other event on the map.

They have seem to keep with these rules its just seems ppl do not like them all that much. Major point is that the idea of “living world” is on the lines of adding story over time vs just simply adding it all in at once. Most ppl would like to see every thing added at one big time but that NOT how living world works. In a “living world” the story unfolds over months of time.

1. If by living world you mean everyone does the time event world boss shuffle, check. The largest part of the player base has migrated there, while the rest of the zones lack significant population.

5. Bugs, and more bugs after patches to fix bugs. The breaking class balance continually for no apparent reason. The Ranger pet “fix” is only the most recent. Pet abilities don’t cool down when put away…but weapon abilities still do…makes sense.

The launch was great and the game was great at launch and up till November. It’s almost a completely different game now.

Is GW2 a game or a virtual casino?

A little 5 slot bar for consumables/world items would be very nice. 1 slot food 1 slot utility buff 3 for world items (or those boosters)

Ranger pets are much better now than they were at launch. You may not like them, but some people have no problem with them. Arguably, the only place you really have a problem with ranger pets is in dungeons. The solution to this is to bring two ranged pets, instead of melee pets, and learn to swap them out before they die. It’s much better than using melee pets in dungeons.

In the last patch they made them resistent to agony so you can take them into the mists, as well as fixing bugs to two hall of monuments pets.

Everyone else in the world, I have no problem with my ranger pet.

There’s lot of content and mechanics that was introduced badly and is still not fixed (remember how they admitted that ascended eq was supposed to be accessible throughoout many avenues from the very beginning, but they didn’t manage to do it in time? Yeah, right, it’s still not done.). In fact, the whole game has been hurried to market well before everything that was supposed to be at opening got done. And some things (guild missions) were just done very badly right from the start, and there’s no indication that they will be improved anytime soon.

Actions, not words.

There are less visible bots in GW2 than in any other MMO I know where this is relevant. So they’re not only doing the best they can, they’re also doing better than everybody else, although GW2 is still very young. The prices at well known gold selling sites also confirm that.

I have all classes at 80, except my necro who is at 70 yet, and played since launch and I cannot name even “one” bug that has persisted and became an issue. I definitely do not min/max but not one of my characters has any problems at all completing any of the content in the game.

I guess that, even if there are abilities or traits that are not functioning the way they should, the game is playable without those traits/abilities and therefore not really an issue that they do not work as intended. While they should be fixed, still not an “issue”.

Well remember the renown system with the hearts does not stay forever. As you get higher in level they go away till there are none.

This was placed in here for those that are use to the old quest system. If you look about and talk to the NPCs you will notice that there are far more quest of that nature then the renown ones.

In fact I see more people not even attempting to find these quest, while I go out of my way in an attempt to do so. I feel one day one of these none labeled quests will get my something sweet to brag about.

I’ve done some out of the way Renown Hearts (forgot the name, thank you) because GW2Spidy revealed a cool item I could make with the crafting recipe sold after you complete it. Especially nice if you want to cheaply get a crafting monthly out of the way with masterworks crafted from tier 1 items.

Define “fixed” because:

- I can use F2 when I keep a notice on what’s happening with the pet. It queues like any other skill, and can be interrupted by the standards. So I do need to wait for that skill to activate, but I also know that it’s waiting in queue so I don’t mash the button and cancel it by mistake.

- I don’t expect them to facetank champions, or even most veterans. Especially the insects. They get crushed easily.

- I know in WvW they’re going to largely be either ignored or focused into being killed, so they’re mostly not too good for that. Except a couple.

- I know, much like they were in GW1, they are as dumb as a post. They’re really really dumb. So dumb they will chase out at something at 1500 range I tagged and then almost get there to run back to me . . . sometimes. Often enough that I heel them if I plan on that.

1) Make the world a living world.

Evolving at a snails pace.

2) Cooperation is key

Game lacks basic tools for cooperation, like canned hotkey statements or universal voice chat.

3) Play the game not the UI

Good marketing punchline, trash execution. Vanishing mobs, vanishing characters, mobs so covered in particle effects you do not know if they are coming or going. And that is if the tells are working at all.

If you use teleport skills you frequently end up inside walls, under the map.

At launch i had to stop using them on my mesmer entirely, i was getting stuck every 5mins, and running out of money on waypoint fees to port back above the map!

Still happens. I dont use judges intervention in wvwvw on my guardian anymore, and am cautious in pve. The other day i ended up inside keep walls 4time i the space of a 30min play session.

Terrain-teleport bugs still abound.
