The Holy Trinity Is not needed
The thought of not having the Trinity is inticing, as a Tank for the last 10 years+ of my MMO Play I was curious to see how this would pan out.
After this last month though I’m starting to miss having dedicated roles. The “Chaotic” combat is fun in events and leveling, but in Dungeons I find it an absolute annoyance and generally not very fun.
“A lot of players love to heal. A lot of players love to tank. And I don’t mean the gimmick healing and tanking that Gw2 has either. Removing the Holy Trinity was one of the worst things an mmo could do.”
Not to sound rude, but if you love the trinity and think it’s essential to gameplay, why did you buy a game with a well announced intention to get rid of the trinity?

I kinda get the feeling that the Trinity system was removed simply to create a ‘gimmick’
A gimmick that can then be used as a sales feature, something to try and make the game stand out, the new ‘thing’, don’t we all just love the ‘new’ thing in games, lol
The truth is, the Trinity system worked, and it worked very well, it allowed game Devs to set up boss encounters and dungeons in such a way that everything is in effect balanced on a knife edge, at any moment the encounter can go either way, and things can change very fast.
And that is where the fun comes in, it gives players a sense of responsability, a sense of purpose, an objective, and a job to do within the game, leading to a job well done when the boss drops or the dungeon is cleared, and then everyone is rewarded with loot, happy faces all round.
But there is always two sides to every coin, and sometimes the job would not be well done, for many many reasons, far to many to list, sometimes that boss just wouldn’t drop, or that dungeon couldn’t be cleared, and failure would rear its ugly head,
And here is the problem, the plain truth is, in MMO’s some people can handle failure, and some can not.
Resulting in something ugly that I think we have all seen in our MMO lives, the Ragers, the Ranters, those low life scum who think they have a right to abuse others in an online game,
We have all seen it, that guy who thinks he has a right to rage at the Healer or the Tank, or even the Dps for that matter, that guy who thinks he has a right to throw verbal abuse because ‘failure’ reared its ugly head.
That’s not a failure of the Trinity system, that’s a failure of the community.
Ahh, but we never had enough Healers, or Tanks you say, we wasted so much time (lol, the concept of wasted time in an MMO) looking for a Tank or a Healer, no one wants to play Tank or Healer,
lol, yeah guess what, that’s because YOU keep shouting at them when it all goes wrong, like a bunch of pathetikittentle spoilt children, so they go log there alt instead, and who can blame them.
Ahh, but Dps is more fun than Tanking or Healing, you say, thats why no one wants to play Tank or Healer,
lol, guess what, thats not a failure of the Trinity system either, that’s a failure of the Game Devs (though they sure as hell aint ever gonna admit it), that’s a failure of the Game Devs to make Tanking and Healing as mush fun to play as it is to play Dps.
The Trinity didn’t fail, the community failed.
You treated your Tanks and your Healers like dirt,
So your Tanks and Healers said ‘kitten’ that, why should I bother.
And yeah, why should they bother, when all you do is rage and rant at them.
So the Trinity gets removed, blamed for a crime it didn’t even commit, lolz, and it’s replaced with Zerg dps mentality,

Dumb mobs and bosses who are somehow easily tricked into focusing only the tank is just plain lame. I dont miss princess tanks or healers either to be honest.
no you are confused…is a differance between " is no trinity " and " trinity has just changed" the thing people are confusing is " class " trinity vs " role " trinity. The trinity DOES still exist just isn’t in the same form as before.

GW2 uses this form of trinity its SAME trinity type that CoH/V used when you had no tanker or brute around. The difference being that CoH/V gave you the choice to play how you wanted…
GW2 revolves around a support or a couple of supports dropping down fields to abuse, using support skills, healing, buffing, and defensive cooldowns. The problem is that, most melee either have to DEDICATE entire spec to defensive traits/cooldowns or rely entirely on party to keep them alive. DPS especially melee dps are more of a hindrance then a benefit. Swapping between weapons is all well and good, but in reality benefit far more by just sticking to ranged weapons and never letting bosses get close enough to hit you.
Saying that melee is fine is absurd it isn’t… melee work 3-4x’s as hard as ranged, have less cooldowns focused on damage and more on tanking….
so two things…
1: dont tell me trinity is gone because if you go into a dungeon with out a support spec’d character or two you will eat dirt constantly
2: dont tell me melee is fine because it ISN’T! are several bosses i’ve seen have aoe’s or auras that will almost one shot a melee character with massive aoe radius, and spammability so even if you DO dodge it, and i do… you cant avoid it as often as the boss in question spams it.
