Dude, i play guardian focusing more on support then DPS, having 2 gears if needed, switching utilitys according to my party and NEEDS of my party.

Well, that proves my point; you rather play support, but are ready to go full Berserker’s just to get into a group; to meet the “needs”-whether real or artificial-of your group. Of course you may play both roles perfectly well too, but that has no bearing on a player who will never acquire Berserker’s, not because he/she ins’t “elite”, but because it pure and simple is not what he/she prefers-and that’s FINE. I doubt groups REALLY “need” 5 Berserker’s gear players-IMHO, it’s a wholly artificial criteria for “leetness”, and is one of the reasons inspecting gear would be horrible for the game (such attitudes WILL become the norm over time if implemented.)

I have nothing against you switching sets for different needs; whether that is your party’s or your own-my Guardian has 3 sets herself. I do not, however, have Berserker’s, probably because I am not good enough to enter that selected caste of pure DPSers… On another subject, there are no roles on GW2, including DPS-people are just accustomed to that playstyle (faster is better always, kill it before it kills you, etc.), and seem to want to force it everywhere they play; no offense, as that is not directly related to you.

I understand elitism will never go away (it’s more or less a personality thing, for better or worse), but it’s better for it to be kept under control by never implementing intrusive inspect gear mechanics, not letting that attitude ruin the game for the rest of the “lesser” players (from the elitist’s point of view, of course) Yes, elitists should play with each other, but let them have other means for deciding who’s “elite” other than discriminating against others based on inspected gear.

I don’t have berserker, for me biggest poblem is AR and MF. I mean if you try to be your best and one guy just try to GET best (talking about MF), don’t you feel little scammed?
And why do you say there are no roles in this game? Just because arenanet advertised that?

There are no roles, but people are so used to them that they keep mimicking them all the time. Therefore they invent these alternate “trinities” and stuff. Some even say that there’s only one role: “DPS”… which is silly, considering the amount of options given to all players in all professions that are not 100% damage focused (I.E. the developers didn’t intend for “DPS” to be “the only role”-some people just want to DPS, which is OK if they don’t force it on anyone else under such false assumptions.)

As for MF and AR, honestly: LFG, fractals level X, please no MF gear, AR: (insert reasonable level.) It’s not perfect, but better than the proposed alternative. Inspect gear may partially “solve” your particular problem, but it won’t stop elitists from rejecting YOU for not having Berserker’s gear if that’s what the group-think happens to believe is the most “efficient” way to tackle this or that dungeon/fractal.

Check spvp for second, all good teams need bunker and arenanet said that (i’m not sure about this, but alot pvp players quote it) spvp won’t be focused on bunkers.

Though you usually focus on support, you do other stuff as well-in short, everyone does a little bit of everything, therefore no one is really “needed” to fulfill a role. Of course your build may favor heals, your guildie may have more DPS, etc., but you are not a healer, and he’s not only “DPS.” It’s hard to grasp, so people go back to what they have always related to in games-“roles.” That’s why you say “if there are no roles, what are we to do?” But I am talking more about focused roles. Even the most focused healer-like character can’t only heal and play his/her best (having max healing power =/= being a healer, and it’s totally fine.) Sure, you may call your role “support” (I often play such “role”), but it’s not something only you and you can do-even a less support oriented character can offer support in some ways, and most professions can do a bit of everything really well, if you are open-minded enough to explore different traits/builds (true, some traits may be bugged or subjectively OP/UP, but at least the “diversity intent” is in the game.)

There’s a lot of semantics in play in here, so I wouldn’t like to debate about something that we may not really disagree that much with. And of course, it’s ok to disagree too.

No gear inspection. Any member of Anet staff with an ounce of morality who read this thread would most assuredly agree. Those in favor of gear inspection sound like complete kittens and are people I’d probably deck in real life. Of course if Anet even thought of attempting this it would be the last straw in a long series of manifesto/philosophy breaking straws. Let us play however we want. Let us play with whatever gear we want. If you are an “elitist” then form a guild with like minded people and stop pugging. Don’t act like children and cry “him having MF gear isn’t fair” and deal with it!

Anet, if you add this you can count me out. Just by reading this forum topic I know I despise these people and if this becomes a norm in my dungeon finding experience then I won’t give GW2 a second thought. FFXIV ARR and TESO are both coming out this year, amongst others, and I don’t need to stay here if the devs are more interested in keeping the “elitists” happy. That being said, I have a very strong feeling that Anet realizes that this is a bad idea and won’t add it.

There was no armory/web profile and no gear inspection in Guild Wars. I have no idea what you are talking about. You could have people ping their builds (skills/attribute point distribution) later in the game’s life, but that and more (gear ping) is already possible.

I do agree that “WoW/insertrandomgame had it, if we have it too, it’s a clone” is silly reasoning, as well as when it’s used the other way round “we need feature X because game Y had it too”.

As far as I am concerned, inspections can go burn in hell.

In cases where people really do want to form an optimized run of whatever kind, they can say so and ask people to link gear.

This is one of those horrible ideas antithetical to the GW franchise that will absolutely make its way into GW2. When Anet followed WoW’s lead around having the game be gear grind centered, they also followed their lead around where to place it—in a dungeon. At least that gave us a fishbowl to observe the experiment. Do you remember? Do you remember the change in mapchat? Do you remember how it fragmented the community? Players no longer wanted players for a group, there emerged the typical grinding culture that wanted leet players in “full exotics”. Grinding gear is, after all, serious business.

When you make a game gear-focused ala vertical progression, and it now is, guess what, gear becomes the most important thing to know about another player.

There is really no question about whether inspect or gearscore is right for GW2. It is simply a quality of life feature at this point.

Every single person who has stated that they want to see inspect in the game is wrong. Every single person who sais that the only stats you should see is AR and MF is WRONG.

“Why are we wrong salacious, your such a troll. Mr mod….”

Let me tell you mr elitist troll. AR means nothing to me. I can usually dodge direct attacks that are trying to or plan to inflict agony. You do not have the right to kick me from your fractal run because my AR is <5 or even 0. Why? Because by that logic mr troll I cannot run a fractal with any one, ever…..Until I have enough laurels to buy my fractals.

And by that logic, well I guess there can only be one “epic all time player of fate”…..Get off your high horse. This is also in state to your inspect gear. No. You don’t get to see my gear, you don’t get to judge me. You don’t get to tell me how to run a shatter build on a mes, how to run a tank like build on a guardian. Your elitist trollism.

I don’t care if I only have MF gear with no AR and a exotic bird. I can run that build based on my traits and skills – which are another thing you don’t get to see mr troll – why? because I get to play exactly how I want. I ran a full set of MF through a level 10 fractal with NO AR on a mesmer shatter like build and survived…..That’s right mr trolls, I survived. I got the loot – why? because I deserve the loot, you don’t. You didn’t run the set, you didnt set your self up for the challenge and get the fun rewards.

The mistake GW made was allowing the kicking of people from dungeon or fractal runs. You don’t get to kick me because I’m running no AR, a pure MF and surviving while your all whipeing. It doesn’t affect me, its not my fault you can run your own kitten build.

So whats the point?

You don’t get to look at my skills, my traits, my armour, my any thing and judge me on how I choose to play.

IT DOESN’T AFFECT YOU.

“Yes it does mr troll man….The internet is serious business and I need only other Hitler’s to run with me!!!”

I know how to play my character, ya I am going to die, so are you – by that logic I should be kicking you for dying once >.> – mr eltist players NEVER die…. (sarcasm)

The gear I choose to run, the way I choose to play is my buisness and I have NOT found an issue in a dungeon or in a fractal because I know how to balance my class out.

currently I am running full zerker gear on a shatter like build. I only got rares except for one exotic armour and exotic weapons. I have no AR, I support you with TW and Null Field. I run a staff build to get my clones but also use DS – there are people who will kitten me for this build because its “not a cooki cuter from site pronhub.com” well guess what – who cares, I made the build my self, I like it, it works in groups and solo.

My take is always “if you don’t have any ar or exotic or whatever”… And you think that’s not a problem. Why not just find other people same as you and do the dungeon.

And the reality is it does matter. At least “the average people that do pass those gear check” usually perform better.

You called that elitism but I just call that you want to get carry. Else you can just go with people that won’t gear check you or have similar gear as you. Let me put it this way when I’m doing my daily fotm 10. I notice about half of the people dont’ have any ar. So I’m sure there are enough of people similar to you that you won’t have a problem finding a group.

Just like the complaint of berserker warrior/memser in cof? You meant to tell me you can’t find a cof group besides warrior/memser?

So ya I think you won’t have a problem finding a group. And if you only want to join the “gear checked” group, you are discriminating other people with similar ar or gear yourself.

In fact want an online armory where I can link gear and build, though that’s not going to come anytime soon.

However, all of this needs to be opt in. You shouldn’t have to deal with busybodies. I am still wearing some green rings! :p

And elitist gearcheckers already do gear check people anyways. They are best ignored.

Absolutely not. Absolutely not acceptable to add an inspect gear function. Absolutely not.

In case that wasn’t understood, I’ll rephrase. I am absolutely positively 100% adamantly against the addition of an inspect gear function in this game.

If people want any information of any kind aside from my visual model… they should need to ask. And I will CHOOSE what they may know… and what they may not. Why? Because privacy that’s why… and because it isn’t your right to know anything about my character if I don’t choose to share it with you… and because if you can’t be bothered to type a simple message to me, you don’t deserve to know jack.

We already have an equipment ping… and when people take the time to ASK ME what I’m wearing… I happily share… and usually enjoy the conversation that ensues trait choices and gear combinations.

I have no fear of people lying to me… because when I ask about gear I have no jerk wad elitist agenda.

To be honest… I kick… often… but not for gear. I kick people for bad attitudes and player abuse… I often tell people I have a zero tolerance policy in my parties for rudeness, elitist attitudes, and other forms of trolling. Zero tolerance… also people who don’t interact in party chat never get an invite to come again.

This is the culture I desire in my groups… I wonder if I should start lobbying for a “player score” system where players can rate other players based on personality… then I can “inspect” their personality and choose to boot them for being kittens long before they ever get a chance to rear their trolly little heads.

ya I mean privacy? You must be very sensitive if you don’t want to share what you are wearing.

If you are scared you might get kick because you are not wearing exotic or have ar I understand.

But “privacy” is a very weird reason. What’s so mysterious about your gear you don’t want people to know.

Must some overpowered build you don’t want to share if you are so secreative about it.

Since that’s what you are basically saying. If people don’t want to play with you because of your gear or skill set, that’s their choice.

Don’t need it….no need to feed the elitist brats. If perfection in gear or build is needed to succeed at anything, then the game is too hard and thus doomed to die.

The normal players will not feel good about themselves if too much failure and they will quit. There are no where near enough hardcore fanatics to keep any game running without the money of the casuals, thank God.

That’s the point right? It make it easier for those “cough cough elitist brats to play with themself” so you won’t be bothered.

And since there are so few of them and so many of you, you wont’ have a problem finding a group.

Why should people not wanting to play with you to play with you. You’re the spoiled brat right?

Yes for inspect for looks, but no stats should be given away.

Ya, there’s that, too. I was reading over the gw2lfg page, & thinking, “Yup, I can do that, I have the necessary gear, have a guardian/warrior/mesmer to choose from, & I know the instance,” but after all the ‘no noob’ type comments, I also thought, as I so often did in WoW – WHY would I want to spend 8 seconds with these people? Not for anything! Then I shuddered, closed the page, & ran screaming away.

Did you scream for or against this feature of being able to check people’s gear? And how many decibels approximately?

And if you are good i don’t see problem with gear inspection, if you are noob good players will kick you anyway from harder dungeons.

People can’t tell if you are a noob by inspecting your gear- so it is not needed.

Also every single one of us was a noob at this game once- it takes 5 min of explanation to explain an encounter, no more noob.

Unfortunately not all the time in the world will cure the elitism that will come from such a feature.

Yea, try explaining it in FotM. I mena if Arenanet wanted this game to be “played the way you want” they wouldn’t introduce ascended gear and agony! They made more elitism and they will eventually introduce gear check, i’m just asking for it sooner then later.

They introduced FotM to throw a bone to the gear grinders. It hasn’t changed anything else in the game. Anet is never going to add this, because it’s not their style. It’s not what they want. You couldn’t do it in Guild Wars 1 either.

Anet may have given grinders a corner of the world to live in. They’re not going to screw the rest of the world, though, which is clearly what they’re about.

I didn’t read anything other than the OP but to put my opinion in this.

NO

Gear/Level/Profession demands are already rediculous. If you allow people to check stats things will go to hell. Just a big NO

NO

NO

The convenience of seeing what someone is wearing versus the negative impact is off the scales. It’s NOT worth it by a mile. The only acceptable thing was if it were a preview of skin/base name of skin only as in ‘Exalted Boots’ not ‘Carrion Exalted Boots’ as the carrion part would give away stats nor should it show runes.

The community is already dealing with enough elitist behaviour and bad attitude as it stands any more and it would destroy any enjoyment for the rest of the playerbase.

shrug. I guess everyone have the right to complain. Since people are basically selfish.

They basically think everyone else should play with them even if they dont’ want to. Why do I have to play with you because you are new to the game, wearing masterwork or have no ar.

I mean I laugh at all those calling other people elitist and they dont’ look at themself and realize how selfish they are.

I don’t really care about gear inspection. I just find that as an interesting human behavior. I suppose that’s how people are and maybe I should act that way myself.

The word entitled is a good way to describe these people.

I just got done with a fractal level 16. It took us 3 hours.
1 person had never done cliffside.
Both ele’s did not carry any weapon swap besides their current ones (D/D and S/D respectively)
One ranger was wearing full magic find gear (tropical birds all day long)
The other ranger, despite actually being reasonably educated and skilled was in full rares. He was being 1-2 shot by every boss.
2 of them had less than 5 agony resistance (maw was killing them)

This is not a party I would have continued to play with if the inspect feature existed, as I would have been able to immediately see that they were not well enough equipped for the encounter (and say all you like. If you cannot be arsed to get gear in this game where gear is so easy to get, then you are NOT a good player)

If not wanting to slog through 3 hours of terribleness makes me elitist and somehow worse than hitler, then I guess im elitist. I’ll take being elitist over being absolutely terrible at this game any day of the week.

I am against this as everyone has there own build and might have odd stats on there gear , but if it works for them then it is fine.

If it works for them they can play solo.

This is a terrible attitude to approach this with.

Honestly, I couldn’t care too much about inspect. I survived games where it existed, and the truly . . . spectacularly . . . driven can still get around it if they really want to. There are three reasons I wouldn’t want inspect, and none of them have to do with the feature itself.

- People wanting to inspect before they invite me to see if I have any Magic Find and kicking me if they found any one piece with it. Because I bought the Ascended Amulet with the generalized “all stats” which includes some Magic Find, and because my warhorn is a Traveler’s so I get the condition damage to go with the axe it’s always paired with.

- People who want only a specific narrow build and don’t want excuses. Full Zerk or out. Given that I never group with groups asking for it . . . and they generally say it up front . . . this problem would come up much less I think.

- People who are willing to heckle me over my choices of gear. “LOL Heal Power?! Get a real sigil dood!” “WTF? Balthazar temple armor? WHY? Ur a ranger, go zerker.” Mostly because I don’t want to grow my block list too much in the first month of this feature going live.

I almost don’t worry about “you’ll never find a group” . . . I’m a ranger, we’re practically never taken along unless someone just needs a fifth to round it out. And if I want to do dungeons I’ll ask my guildmates if they feel like experimenting for a night.
