Q:

Why is there current a lacking related to Guild Wars 2?

Oh the game is fleshed out and has a lot to,… for new players.

Currently there are several things lacking related to the actual game. Last content addition of any type was on Feb. 10th-24th, that being the Lunar New Year. In the 2 weeks it ran there was a handful of achievements, a new back item, and the Dragon Ball mini-game. We’re nearly 60 days from the end of that event, well beyond from the start of it. 60 days and no content updates at all [I’m sorry but no, I do not consider it “new content” for 24hrs to turn the whole screen a pastel color and put the players arms outright for the then later chance to sell that ‘spectacular’ experience as a cash shop item].

It is not just the lacking of new content either. We’ve past the beginning of April -almost the entire month, soon enough- and there has not been any return of old ‘holiday’ content that received so much dedicated development time for the short periods it was available. Yes, I’m talking about the S uper A dventure B ox.

And what of a new Season 3 of WvW? That has been stagnate for some time now without anything to “shake things up!”. Achievements and awards could be the same as last season, just a new finisher or title to add to it and done.

So without these things, old and new, the game is in a stasis of stagnation.

Then there is the Heart of Thorns expansion. Lacking in nearly everything from the mechanics state of being. Nothing has been said of class Specializations outside of the PAX South announcement; and the details from that was lacking because we know a name + weapon (Druid and staff) and a weapon + class (great sword and Necro). Masteries? We know of mushrooms and gliding…oh boy do we know about mushroom and gliding. Guild Halls? I’m not even sure we got to see one full one at all. The presentation at PAX seemed to show concept art of them only.

What they have shown of Heart of Thorns is a few non-purchase things and a lore piece behind the new frog people. By ‘non-purchase things’ I’m talking about the Stronghold sPvP map mode and the new Dessert Borderlands. Both of those have been confirmed by the developers as things that all players will have access to with or without purchasing Heart of Thorns. It is said to be a move to prevent player segregation in these modes.

I recall them saying things were going to happen fast after they announced the expansion.. Like light-speed fast. So far there has been 2 single-day “beta tests” of the sPvP map and HoT’s starting area for Maguuma. The whole layout of the expansion’s map is unknown. The launch date -or relative month/year- is unknown.

The near future of GW2 is currently unknown. And that is because of all the Lacking. And it is scary from a gamer/fan perspective.

I don’t think its scary. Definitely not a word I’d associate. In fact I’m not overly concerned with the info coming out from Anet. I’d say they were just enormously busy right now.

I think people’s expectations are rather high for info, just because we got a big dump of info to start with. I never expected to see as much as we have already to be honest. Many MMO’s I’m watching intently are drip feeding info on big content releases this year at a much more alarmingly slow rate.

Is the game stagnating? No again, I don’t agree with that. I can understand the perception though, especially considering the schedule over the years.

Having said that, I can’t quite wrap my head round why SAB is off the table for return until further notice. Or why say Gauntlet isn’t around. Or a re-churned out festival. Or why they wont even communicate why these are off the table. But that is the limit of my concern and it is hardly a big one.

It’s really hard not to go dark before a big release like an expansion. Give the devs time, it’ll only make HoT that much more awesome.
