The Rise of the Guild Leechers
Maybe they should have made it so normal guilds can participate in these things, then.
The entire mechanic of encouraging guild hopping was a fail from the start.
All the patches lately were a big fail..
So your guild gains grinding bodies that go away again once you/they are finished?
Do they try to crack jokes while they are representing? If not they could be a step up on a lot of guilds…
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.
Please try again.
Working as intended.

Wow… I didn’t realise it until I read your comment.
We can now act as mercenaries… join a big guild that’s still got a few places open and in exchange for being told when guild missions are done and being able to get rewarded for your participation, offer your services to switch over and help the guild complete them.
Maybe I should have titled my post Rise of the Mercs
I have multiple guilds for picking players from to do dungeons/missions, so what?
That’s why we have multi-guilding.
Most players have a main guild and then 4 side-guilds for picking players and now doing missions.
It’s not leeching to play with different guilds, it’s a two-ways service as you help the guild and you get commendations.
I think there is something to be said about the greedy, reward-focused atmosphere of guilds in this game. The game seems like a gigantic, boring, bland skinner box in comparison to GW1. How is community supposed to be fostered when patches like this just cause any potential guild member you may have been able to recruit yesterday (if you are a small guild [less than 50 people]) slips through your hands only because of monetary benefits. I see problems with the combat system, the class structure, etc. This guild mission patch does absolutely nothing but break down small communities and funnel everyone into a greedy grind race to cover up the flaws of the game. Can anyone say this is actually inherently fun to play anymore? Would you play without being rewarded? They have to basically beg players to come PvP in this game. It’s really sad and busted. The implementation of these guild missions just being thrown into the open world..it’s just bad. Random races in the open world, random boss fights, such a bad attempt at trying to bring people together when all it does is rip them apart, funnel them into a big machine guild environment, and entice them with grind, gating, and rewards. This IS NOT how you should design content for guilds, by gating smaller guilds and turning the only social foundation mechanic into a reward race.
Make better encounters.
Make RAID size dungeons.
Increase party size.
Add more combat depth.
More skills.
More inherent reason for players to play together.
More structure to the combat system.
Bad move.
It’s not leeching to play with different guilds.
This exactly.

Guild Leecher (def.)
Players who joins multiple guilds and who represents and interact with said guilds only for when they run guild missions and only when they can get their personal reward for said mission.
Actually, this exactly.
Ok first off it really isn’t leeching to play with different guilds.
Secondly you can only get the personal rewards once per week regardless of how many guilds you are a part of so I’m not even sure what you are talking about.

What does this have to do with guild leechers at all?
I just wanted a AAA MMO with no sub made by ArenaNet. And it’s awesome.”

If you read the whole 7 lines instead on focusing on only part of what was said, you might end up understanding what I’m talking about.
Oh… and I’m not being entirely serious, it’s just an idea, something to discuss and reflect about. Sorry some of the people I’m sharing it with aren’t able to conceptualize it.
Edit : Me being a pompous prick in that last remark was intended as being ironicaly humorous… just making that clear to avoid misunderstandings.
(edited by Gunsei.4870)
its not players fault, is the system (multi guild)…and yes can happen, thats why, dear guild leaders, start kicking non representing people, fix it by yourselves…if you want.

If you read what i wrote and still posted this, i think you should have an IQ test. My post was pretty on topic about how i feel the state of the game is changing in regards to guild leechers. Whether you agree with ANYTHING i have to say is inconsequential and pretty irrelevant to me. ArenaNet will judge opinions based on how much those opinions affect their cash shop revenue. Seeing as you seem to have a more casual kitten stuck in a skinner box of bad design mentality, i would wager that your opinion matters a bit more to ArenaNet since your type is the type that buys contrived garbage from the cash shop. The type of player that never played GW1 and probably jumped ship from a more traditional MMO into this franchise. Then you just assume that everyone who has qualms with this game prefers WoW. So, i guess your opinion matters more than anyone else’s, congratulations internet user #2374403987460318264059437
Well… that’s one way to put it. Ok, I’d like to find fault with the cynicism there, but I can’t help thinking you’re right. The alternative, & what I’m pretty sure will happen for me, is that you end up thinking, “Ya, Guild Missions sounded great. Nothing is worth that much annoyance.”
I like finding people & making new friends in my own way. If I find people I like, I friend them, keep in touch, etc. I’m not seeing the need for ANet to involve itself in this manner now.
Maybe they should have made it so normal guilds can participate in these things, then.
This ^^
Kinda like have my small Guild of players who have been together for many years across other MMO’s. We dont multi represent so this new Guild content will unfortunately never be seen by me or the other 3 players in guild.

Yes, everything is the cash shop’s fault, I never played GW1, and I seem to have a more casual kitten stuck in a skinner box of bad design mentality- whatever the hell that means.
You are this mad.

It’s a non-issue or will be short-lived. It will quickly be resolved by active guilds requiring 100% representation and kicking those who don’t
I’m now looking for a guild that is better suited than my current tiny guild of 4 to 5 active players, who only has 2 other talented players. Doing the Guild Missions will be out of the question here. It’s likely that unless I really like the guild or unless I can convince my friends to join me in the new guild, I will leave the guild once my needs have been satisfied.
GW2 has always been a selfishness-endorsing game in its design. Players can help to kill anything and get equal reward. Professions are self-contained and aren’t naturally “paired” with another profession. There’s very little that encourages strong teams aside from challenging content. So what if I join a guild purely for my own benefit? It’s not like I’m leeching life out of the guild by doing it. So long as I bring my A-game, so long as I join in pursue the same goals as the guildmates, why am I becoming a “leech”?

I am not one to leech (I WON’T join a large Guild just for Guild Missions), but don’t you think this further accentuates the problem why this system is bad for the smaller Guilds? Their influence growth will certainly be way slower than that of a much larger Guild. And why I would represent the larger Guild whan I much rather represent my old Guild, regardless size?
I think it’s “dishonest” to join a Guild just to benefit from it, rather than having fun with in-game friends. If I knew a friend that was playing on a large Guild, THEN maybe I would join, but would still represent my Guild most of the time (these are personal values, so they are not debatable.)
Yes, I am all for making new friends, and I do so all the time in-game. I have lot of GW2 friends. They do not become Guildies just because they are friends, though.
Also, I find it rather distateful/dictatorship-like to force people to represent your Guild 100% of the time. People are free to do as they like. Yes, I would have preferred a one Guild only system, but I do realize that this system allows friends from different Guilds to play together, and that’s fine. That said, given that we have a multi-Guild system in place, I hate telling people what they should do/how they should play/force them to represent my Guild, as if I owned them or their time in any way or fashion.

Correct me if I’m wrong (haven’t tinkered much with GM in this game), but couldn’t you also just create a muted guild chat rank? So even one more step towards absolute merc
I’d be careful about muting mercs – there is a reason why they get paid, generally it is because they have more of a clue than someone you could get for free!
But we guild up for social reasons, not competitive game reasons… right?
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.

Leecher Wars 2…
Wait wait wait… so if someone joins a guild, represents when that guild is doing guild missions, and actively participates in the mission, thus helping the guild as well as themselves get credit for the guild mission, then goes back to representing their more social guild so they can chat with their friends… they are considered leachers? REALLY? Since when did active participation count as leaching?
Jeebus it’s like watching a comedy about a jealous, crazy girlfriend. It’s not enough to spend the times that count with her, ya gotta spend every second and only talk to her, ever.
My advice- if you ever find yourself in a guild that tries to restrict your representing, especially when you are helping them during the times you represent, I suggest you RUN FOR THE HILLS.
First the large guilds said “Cool, ANet made Guild missions prohibitive for smaller guilds so everyone now has to join us. Small guilds shouldn’t exist anyway.”
Now they say “Bad, Anet made Guild missions prohibitive for smaller guilds so everyone now has to join us just to get their missions done. We feel exploited now.”
Is there something I am missing here?

How is that not leeching? You’re solely in that Guild for your own benefit. It’s not to help grow or better that Guild, it’s so that you can get your gear and get out. That’s indefinitely leeching.

the “leecher” helps the guild get their merit. it’s not leeching.
