the first season of the f the Living Story is about to end and in retrospective my greatest problem was and still is that i missed too much of it. counting all the attempts i have approximately missed around 70% of it because i’m a working person that lacks the spare time to play when the Living Story wants me to. For someone that has seldom more than 4 hours time to play in a week it’s a literally pain that you are thrown into events you don’t know what they caused or understand the reasons for them. This caused a lot of grief and the consideration of quitting came up more than one time. Not to mention anger and as result bad blood toward people that are completely guiltless.
I always played Guild Wars for the Story but now it’s like reading a book where the most pages are missing. And to adjust my rare sparetime completely to the game can’t be the right solution. 4 hours a week are not enough if you want to enjoyall teh facettes and reading summaries of what happened is neither satisfying nor does is helps to understand because all the small details i love the game for are usually left out.

i don’t want to rant pointlessly but unfortunately the seasonal concept does not work for me and it makes me sad that i will most likely not be able to participate what is – to my knowledge – the expansion of the Personal Story even if i would love to stay in touch with the Lore and the story.

but maybe that is just me.

EDIT: repost since i missed the english forum at the first try

Not every1 will get the chance to play through the living story stuff and it does kinda suck. I haven’t been able to GW2 at all. not even a little bit for the last couple months cuz of school and all that…but I’m really not that angry about me not being able to play. I try to catch some Twitch streams when I can and catch up on whats happened through there

I also work full-time and spend roughly 3-6 hours per week on GW2. And I don’t really get what your complaint is. The events run for two weeks, so that’s pretty ample time to play them and get acquainted with them. As to the plot, you’re really not missing much. There’s no deep thinking involved here. All you need to know is that LA is being attacked, you gotta rescue people from LA and kill all the monsters. It’s the same as any other live event. Really not that complicated. If you’re a lore buff and you missed all the previous LW stuff and want to know the whole story, sure, you’ve got some reading to do on the wiki. But if you’re a lore buff, you’re probably doing that anyway.

Problem is that it is a never ending grind of temporary achievements and rewards that is indeed part of this story. Depending what you prefer the most of it depends on what you dislike the most (story / achievements. rewards).

Solution would be easy. First of all, don’t let the story go so fast. Every 2 weeks a new part and every month the removal of the one introduced a month before.

If they really want to go on with the living story then release something new every month and then remove it after 2 months.

In addition, the story would be temporary but that would then leave behind permanent content that people can always do to catch up with the story but also all achievements and rewards should be linked to that permanent content introduced by the story. That should all not be temporary. In that way people can also go for the rewards and do the achievements whenever they want.

Lastly the story should be available for everybody to read and see back.

But then again, these sorts of suggestions had been made even before the many complains about the living story started. Simply because many people did foresee this problems. So far ArenaNet never did anything with them so you can wonder if they will ever do.

If they would Season 2 would be a good moment to do so, but seeing as how they have been doing stuff since release I have not a lot of hope they will made the needed changes.

There excuse for doing it this way is because only that way you would get a true living world. Things are temporary. But is this really true. Of course things can go but what usually happens is that maybe a swimming-pool gets build in your neighborhood.

The building of that would then be the story. Once that is build you can go there for many many many years to come. That would allow you to see part of that story and would be the achievements and the rewards when translating it to the game-world.

No, in a true living world you don’t have to change after these sort of ‘achievements’ because they will be gone a month from now.

It’s more the problem that when you have to do something (having to do in a way that if you don’t do it now it’s gone next months) does make it less fun.

Plus you can’t do everything in those few hours. Yes going in LA once to help the people would work but try to complete the list of achievements (that do have some story elements to them) will be a bigger problem.
