I’m not going to rehash the age old topic of Tengu being a playable race, but I think it’s time to discuss the bird shaped elephant in the room. That massive walled district practically inside Lion’s Arch has been closed for…ever. I get it, they’re distrustful of people after the whole Cantha thing and the fact that most of them were attacked on sight in Tyria 250 years ago, but we’ve been peaceful for quite a while now. Not to mention we helped protect them against every attack aimed at Lions Arch. You can say they weren’t involved, but lets be honest, if Lions Arch goes, that bird city is going with it. I think it’s about time they open that place up and let us see whats inside of it. At least a little. Is there ever going to be any content that even remotely touches up on that place? It’s a pretty big spot to leave empty.

We have gliders now so it is more likely that we can traverse the terrain when Arena Net decide to go to it.

I doubt it will be till an expansion, fingers crossed it will be the next one.

why have every piece of equipment adjusted to fit a cool new race when you can just copy paste humans and add some wings? ready to fight bubbles with your NEW WATER ELF?!

i mean, all we ever see is human players with wings, so we already know it will sell

There are hints that we might see more out of that place eventually. If you have a guild hall and have talked to Kensho Arrowsoul, particularly.

Watch this space in LW season 3, maybe? No guarantees, I mean their neighboring problem dragons have yet to really stir (unless you count Zhaitan or Mordremoth… hee hee), but ANet hasn’t forgotten in any case.

Sigh, this topic again. Designing the starter map/city and getting existing skins to work with the tengu character models alone would be a lot of resources for little gain in my opinion. All you are getting out of it is a character skin and some racial elites no one would use.

I’d love to see Tengu as aplayable race. Imagine what u can do in character creation with feathers and colors of feathers…. I’d make one right awy, lvl it from scratch (no tomes even if i have tons of them), and enjoy everything new. Also – imagine the Hawk wings/glider on a tengu… wow!

It may “just” be an aestetic update to the game part from lore, some new maps, racial skills etc, but this game doesn’t take any damage from more aestetic content, espacially not when it comes to character Creation as we have seen nothing new there in 3 years apart from new faces and hairstyles.

Agreed. Really hoped it would have come with HoT. Armor issues? I don’t care about armor. All armor could be hidden and never show on my tengu, as long as I got 6-8 dye channels and some cool character models that are already in game. Outfits don’t work on tengu? Don’t care as long as I get lots of dye channels for my plumage, cool choices for my head plumage and beak and tail. C’mon people, think outside the box here- the possibilities are endless. Don’t care about story. Heck, make it an adventure bought from the gem store like the minis that came with a quest for a level 80 character. The Tengu toon slot comes with a character slot and a back story for your main or an alt to go on a mini adventure to find/rescue/assist a tengu that then becomes your character in the new slot. They only need to fill one zone on the map, add a little back story, and bam- lots of character slots generating revenue for Anet.

Literally my very first sentence in the post said this isn’t about playing tengu. You couldn’t be bothered to read the. Very. First. Sentence.

What does gliders have to do with the Tengu? They cant fly and their “Dominion of Winds” is just regular old island behind the wall. It has nothing to do with flying.

I think since Tengus are an avian race, he made the connection to flying which then translate into a city that requires some form of flight to traverse it (gliding).

Well, to be fair, the tengu were involved during Scarlet’s invasion of LA back in LW Season 1…albeit not in a good way. The tengu archers shot at anyone (yes, even the Pact Commander!) who approached their precious wall, and they were shooting to kill. I can only imagine how many terrified citizens, families and soldiers fell to those aggravated avians’ arrows while desperately seeking sanctuary from the fiery inferno and horrors that Scarlet had unleashed. I don’t exactly see the the survivors looking favourably on the tengu because of that, and the tengu have no intention of opening up their little dominion to outsiders anytime soon anyway, especially if we look at Izu Steelshrike’s rather direct commentary about tengu policy during the smith-saving run of the “Prisoners of the Dragon” story mission in HoT.

Whether we get to explore the Dominion of the Winds in any future content remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon because the story is currently focusing on other, more pressing subject matters, not to mention all those loose ends the plots of HoT and the two Living World seasons left us with which should be resolved sooner or later.

First off not everybody likes the same content as you do for my self i would love new places to explore why im leveling new characters. Its not just new skins and skills its new places, new stories, new lore, new culture and new characters to fall in love with.

Im not a combat type gamer. Im more into exploring and lore including making my characters my own with there own back stories and personalities… so yeah i would love tangu’s skritts and whatever race anet planing on goving us in the future.

This is an excellent point AND a good starting point for starting a Tengu based story arc. Here we are letting them live (somewhat) inside Lions Arch and stay completely isolated, but we’re just going to forget the fact that they totally killed innocent civilians based on their paranoia? I feel like there can be a lot to go on to juggle the fact that they were reasonably suspicious but overzealous in their self defense. That’s just a diplomatic nightmare. It’d be like if the French killed other allied soldiers during world war 2 because “Foreign soldiers in our land=bad! Kill them on site”!

We can be the ambassador that tries to reason with the Tengu and keep the peace with LA citizens bitter about being shot at for being in the wrong place. And remind the Tengu that they kind of owe us for being pricks during the Scarlet invasion
