One of the biggest selling points of GW2 for me was the scaling system. I expected to be able to farm anywhere with any of my friends no matter what level and get comparable loot. I have been sorely disappointed seeing it in action. I expected that the drops in low-level areas would be perhaps 80% of those in higher level areas in order to compensate for the fact that it’s slightly easier to complete the low-level areas. Instead I found that drop rates and rewards are DRASTICALLY lowered for higher level characters. With equipment drops you have as much chance to get a level 20 equip as a level 80 which is already bad enough, but with other items, like crafting materials, you can NEVER get any level 80 crafting materials from low-level areas which is an enormous loss in potential rewards.

I’m really bummed out on this. Why didn’t ANet want to follow through with this great idea? I want to be able to play through ANY content without it being obsolete like it currently is.

Its still better than the alternative like ALL the other MMOs do where you NEVER play with your friends until endgame.

Besides knowing there is a chance for gear to drop of your level is still there and it does happen. I don’t know I have been pretty happy w/ it so far and I have gone back to zones 30-40 levels below where I am for friends.

I do think there is some room for them to make rewards from the rest of the world a little bit more attractive at level 80. On the other hand there might be a danger that the more challenging level 80 content gets completely ignored.
