So, will the tens of hundreds bugs be ever fully fixed? FF: ARR has way lesser bugs than GW2 and I’ve been following this game since the start.

i would suggest making a clear and concise post in the bugs forums if you want to be helpful and expect any sort of fix for said bugs.

coming to the general discussion forum and saying, “this game has a lot of bugs. it has more bugs than game x” is just a waste of time and energy.

Katta, thats bull and you know it.

People complain about bugs in central tyria since I began playing the game. It took them a year to fix Ogre Wars meta event. 1 YEAR!

I approve discussing this in the general forum, Anet has made clear that it doesn’t care about bug threads and any sort of fix, change, only comes when it has made enough noise to be noticed.

I don’t get the impression that Anet fixes any more or less bugs than other games. It’s possible they have more bugs overall, due to the insane amount of different systems, giving the impression of very little fixing done. They also seem to have little to no resources devoted to bug squashing – they just move people over into it from other projects, if it seems important (aside from QA, who typically doesn’t have the know-how to fix bugs… only to find them, figure out how to reproduce them, and communicate with the devs).

But again, I don’t know that that’s any different from other games of this size and scope.

I’m also operating on impression and speculation. Maybe they do have teams specifically for it. Sure doesn’t seem like it though. The thing about bugs is (and this is not a defense of Anet in particular, just a general reminder about bugs) some of them are very difficult to reproduce and even more difficult to fix. It’s not always obvious where the problem is. Sometimes you think you’ve fixed a bug and then it comes back, or you can never seem to reproduce it in testing but people persist in reporting it.

This problem can be lessened by creating systems with strong organization, well-documented code, and so on, but all it takes is a little bit of sloppiness and it becomes a headache to track stuff down. Unfortunately, game programmers aren’t necessarily experts at software engineering and the systems required for a working MMO are anything but amateur stuff.

I recall something about Anet having a reputation for strong programming, but I think that was its reputation from years ago and the main thing it seems to be true for now is the client. Beyond that, I’m not sure if it remains true at all. And even the client I’m not sure about. After so many years of development, it’s hard to say.

Or words to that effect.

Actually, I’d prefer a bug over the sheer boredom FF.ARR delivers. With a bug, my bloodpressure gets stimulated, which FF:ARR didn’t do once. Of the 14 days of F2P they offered me, I played about 7-8 hours and immediately knew that it was boring beyond belief.

So, in essence, it’s shiny surface doesn’t cover the boooring core.

What? Ogre Wars has been bugged since release, over 3 years ago. It took them 3 years (not 1) to apply some fixes. And it still bugs sometimes.

This is the reality of a free to play game. Bugs are much much more common and far less fixed. I played FFXI for many years and while there were some bugs, particularly after updates, they were almost immediately fixed. And there were never game breaking bugs like Ogre Wars that persist for more than a few days. But again, subscription game, vs f2p mishmash.

When you make a post, the topic is “bumped” and rise in the forum page, with “sage” function you can tag your post to not bump the topic, usually used when you want to express your idea to a topic you think it is not worth the attention of others.

Ah. That might be actually useful. There’s been a time or two I wanted to post a comment but not bump the post back up to the top.

Bugs?

Uh…

Necromancer Axe Skill 1 animation sucks compared to original, atleast for human.
Elementalist Fire Staff Skill 1 is a R**arded Flare which should be restored.
Elementalist Earth Staff Skill 2 is a fart bubble in sand instead of an eruption.
Skill effect objects axis is broken (as in objects spawned during skill effect animations might not have it’s proper axis when played).

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

That sounds great, though given that we have to go to google for a meaningful search, I don’t see it happening.

+1 This.

Its only to be expected that a game this complex, with this much coding is going to have bugs. Especially considering how much, and how frequently, the game has gotten new content added (albeit, much of the new content during the first season was transitory, but it was still new content). Its just the nature of the beast. The best one can hope for is that the service provider does their best to address bugs as they are discovered, and in this respect, Anet does a reasonably decent job. Important bugs typically get fixed as fast as one would see in any other MMO. If minor stuff gets neglected, it because, believe it or not, Anet has finite resources, and as such, they have to prioritize where they devote their energies.

Also, Anet is a business like any other. Their survival depends on retaining their customers and they know it. So anyone writing comments like, “Anet doesn’t care about bugs” is just full of bitter BS. Its all about a business making priority decisions that will best serve their customers’ interests. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes not. And the way to help them get it right is with MEANINGFUL feedback.
