It would seem not a significant problem, but it falls with black blot of disgrace on the whole game. Wherever I see any information about the game, I find comments like “battle with Zhaitan such miserable”, “battle with the final boss – just one button mini-game”, “final boss is terribly designet” etc.. Rating, I believe, dramatically lowered. I would not want to developers simply forgot about it. But worse than that, as far as I noticed, a fight with Zhaitan was only simplified (now he does not even spawns snakes on deck). Do you plan to do something about it, dear A-net?

The Arah part of the PS is not bad actually and if you follow the story, you will understand the battle is played out the way it is.

The only Dragon we fight is Tequatl, all the others are servants or lower dragons.

I’m sure it won’t happen, but the Chinese release would be a good time to revamp the Zhaitan fight a bit though.

Tequalt is only a servant of Zhaitan too.

agreed with this, every review i read or review video i watch they always get to the end and say something like “wait…thats it?…dam.”

it just seems like they had really cool ideas and just aborted them,
someone even found a way to explore the arah map and found an arena-like room which seems perfect for a final boss battle so its very likely that once zhaitan is shot down you were supposed to pursue him to the ground for a final battle.

It’s more than just the fight. I loved the idea of a personal story, and this one was implemented way better than others I’ve seen in mmo’s. Overall the PS was really fun.

But the last fight, the Arah one, bugged the heck out of me for three reasons:

1. It was a proxy battle fought with airships, devaluing the theme of accumulating personal power to complement the alliance. Fixable by making Zhaitan much larger and making the fight a run to his heart inside him, with a finishing blow delivered by the character.
2. It was the only point in the entire personal story that required a group. Fixable by either requiring the other dungeons as earlier story steps or (best option) leaving a group dungeon out of the PS equation entirely.
3. The big one for me: the final step wasn’t customized for the character unless you happen to be the one in the dialogue. It was jarring and made you feel like suddenly you were a dialogue-free henchman instead of the protagonist. Fixable by either customizing dialogue for every player or (as above) just keeping dungeons out of the PS, acknowledging that it’s a different kind of content appealing to many players without interest in 5 person content.

To be fair, I do get why development priorities have moved beyond any refinement to the PS, of course. Frankly the marionette battle alone justified that decision to me. But it would have been nice to capstone the solo part of the game more consistently.

Man Arah story is one of the coolest dungeons I’ve ever played in any game ever. So the fight with Zhaitan himself is easy, whatever, take in the dungeon as a whole, the story, the environment, it really is pretty awesome.

Its not about the dungeon…its about the lamest Boss battle in the history of gaming Ever. A Boss battle should be interesting and difficult and memorable, yet zaithan is a huge dissapointment in each and every way.

It’s quite clear that the game was pushed to a release date (in order to have it released before WoW Expansion) and some content was rushed. Zhaitan fight is a paradigm for that. Unfortunately, they only spent time for this shallow living world content instead of improving some of its lackluster encounter.

And what were you expecting exactly? A God of War 3 type of Battle where you are running up the back of an acres sized dragon? Each one of those sequences in that game (as well as other games like Shadow of the Colossus) cost millions of dollars to develop and get working properly, and I am kind of glad that Anet didn’t blow their whole budget on a single boss battle.

The Problem is how slow it goes with the airship. You spend an extremely long time just standing there waiting in silence, with minimal clunky action when things do actually attack.

I am sure a lot of us were expecting something like that. Including me. However I understand why they did not do it.

Tequati’s fight is something the Zhaitan’s fight should have been like. Even if he is weakened he is still a being equal to God man, getting destroyed by a big baloon with laser cannon is ridiculous.

If it were not so bad, there wouldn’t appears post like http://puu.sh/8BmHN.png (youtube “Fear Not This Night”Chinese version comment). If I had not played this game and found similar posts as often as now – I would seriously doubt about its purchase.

I think this touches on my real issue. These Elder Dragons are supposed to be incredible, supernatural, God-Slaying forces of planetary extinction. “Press big red button to fire magic laser,” while a valid means of killing a dragon, is hardly the best fodder for a climactic battle in an epic fantasy game. I love this game, but Zhaitan could be soooooooo much better. Even if they just copped out with a “magically get real big and punch him like the Megazord” deal, it would have been preferable.

Yes they should rework the Zaitan fight before China release but I’m guessing it is more technically complex than it looks. The mix of airships, guns, and flying dragons was too ambitious.

Also, do players want the developers to spend time building new living story content that’s fun for everyone, or to spend time fixing Zaitan for someone who repeats the personal story?

What would have been cool is people pooling power to summon giant elementals like the Centaur did in the battle for Shaemor type fight. Except on a huge scale, Earth, Air, Fire and Water.. along with lasers etc like it drained Tyria’s life force just to summon these guardians of the planet to restore nature.

When i leveled my first toon i gone through the whole personal story, then i had the last one saying i had to kill Zhaitan in Arah and i was like ooooo epic fight. But i was wrong, it was a very big deception, nothing special just hitting a blind dragon that sticks on a pole, like kingkong does on the tower but Zhaitan hadnt a girl in his claws lol.

All in all i was very dissapointed in it.

I dislike god of war,you shouldnt make assumptions when you dont know me.What would i expect ? A proper boss battle like you have while fighting every other boss ingame, instead of standing behind a cannon pressing 1 button. The end boss “fight” has nothing to do with a budget at all,its just the choise they made with letting us stand there pressing 1 button.I like to be challenged, you obviously don’t and are happy with such an easy win against what should be made into something spectacular instead..And an end boss should give you a challenge, zhaitan was not challenging it was a huge dissapointment and a bore to be doing.

Taco is a Champion of Zhaitan. Shatterer is a Champion of Krakle. The Claws are Champions for Jormag. That they are dragons doesnt matter. They arent Elder dragons.
