So having played the game for about 9 months and being a bit disappointed with the personal story (which I still haven’t finished even though I only have ONE toon) I decided to work on my legendary – map completion. I decided I’d do one map per day and well having spent months in dungeons (I just love them) I was literally amazed at the open world. I’ve read threads here and there about how gorgeous the artwork and landscapes are but I’ve never truly experienced it for myself.

I’m at 65% ish on world completion and man have I seen some cool designs, items and art. Today was the tipping point when I saw a freaking Charr-tank…A tank…in the form of a Charr head…It is a tank…that looks…like…a….head! I mean tanks are already awesome but bejesus…Lol check out the pic!

The point of the thread is to urge people to not only admire the general art work…but when doing map completion…take it slow…enjoy it (some quests are so fun and original too – I stopped a pedobear from kidnapping kids this morning – Iron Marshes). As an artist myself I’d spend extra time on a specific detail that was in the background that few people would ever notice; I feel these little details are often overlooked in GW2 so I thought I’d give some praise! I once saw this awesome Charr statue somewhere. Have fun!

I’ve done it twice, and quite a bit on a few other characters. Every so often, I just get the urge to ‘go do a zone’. I still very much enjoy the world.

Though, still not crazy about Orr (purely from an aesthetic perspective, the challenges are fine), and would like a nice end game zone that looked like Queensdale, but I digress.

Nice screeny.

There are indeed a lot of breath taking places in Tyria, and if you take it slow and have fun you will have the best experience ever.
By the way, there are a ton of those kinds of tanks in The Black Citadel and in the charr camp in Field of Ruins.

Also, don’t worry about the personal story. I haven’t completed it myself despite the fact that I have been playing since launch.
Personally I just refuse to do the last chapter because it is a group mission, whereas all the other ones were soloable and thus much more immersive to me since I could take my time.

It’s not a statue, it’s a Charr tank.

It is completely soloable aside from the gate at the start, which requires 1 other person.

+1
I completely agree.
I love adventuring in this world.

Also, I think this is the charr statue referenced.
Unless they are referencing the metal ones in the Black Citadel. Those things are so awesome.

Guild Wars 2 have many fun little details everywhere in the world. Its not as beautifully detailed as other modern games, but the entire package (graphics style, audio, colors, etc) just make incredibly memorable scenery. Divinitys Reach is unmatched for a city feel.

Dont just look at the vistas either, pay particular attention to conversations. They can be great. Still remember the first time I listened to the discussion with the Sylvari thinking the Charr will eat her and her Asuran collegues witty remarks about Charr not eating vegetables.

There are plenty of things to discover. Ever tried to /kneel in front of one of the statues found all over the world? There is at least one I found that triggers an event, which without the /kneel action wouldn’t be doable. I like such hidden things very much and I’m sure although world completion says 96% there is another 30% or more hidden or unobvious things I haven’t discovered yet. I wished ANet would add more things like that, if they didn’t already, because this is what the “living world” should be about. Less world events, more world.

Even after being around since launch (with various periods of inactivity), I still manage to come back and find things that still put me in awe.

Just today, in Orr, I came across a helicopter dropship that deposited Pact Soldiers and just flew off. I was shocked, I had NO idea such technology existed within the game outside of the Charr war machines and my native races (asura) strange inventions.

I may have map completion on two characters, but every now and again I get reminded that I have not truly “Been There, Done That.”

I know exactly how u feel, i remember feeling the same sense of awe first time i saw that. There are in fact few places in Orr where chopper drops occur, usually prior to events starting, or events failing and Pact soldiers being evacuated, as well as in Arah PS, although that one is a cinematic.

I never noticed the Charr tanks are supposed to look like Charr heads. Maybe I was too distracted by the strange wheel placement within its tracks

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!
