I finally completed the latest episode and I have to say… I was completely blown away with the way this episode was executed. Kudos to ANET for having outdone themselves yet again!
Things that stood out for me were:
1. Marjory’s encounter with Belinda. I’m liking the new approach with custom animations. We saw this with Kasmeer and Marjory in the final battle against Scarlet, and now again with Marjory and Belinda. This includes the facial expressions, and the way Marjory handled Belinda’s sword. Need more of this.
2. Canach strikes again! The voice actor for Canach is simply brilliant. I enjoyed listening to his back and forth with Anise in the previous episode and he’s done it again. His lines are just too good. Need more of this.
3. Durmand Priory. Holy moly was this place packed with lore! I must’ve spent a good hour and a half to maybe 2 hours simply running around the library and reading all the books before I even got to Ogden. All the references to the original GW1 were absolutely amazing. This shows that ANET hasn’t forgotten about the old lore that got so many of us hooked onto GW in the first place. Need more of this.
4. Glint’s Lair. The ultimate highlight of this episode. The whole place looked absolutely stunning! Big shout out to Leif Chappelle and Maclaine Diemer for the remake of Crystal Oasis soundtrack. My favourite soundtrack from GW1 remade and they have done it justice by living up to the bar set by Jeremy Soule’s original. I couldn’t believe it when I first heard the remake. Stroke of pure genius! Need way more of this!
5. Story. I like the direction all of season two has taken with the story. To me, it feels like this direct approach of story telling is much better. By contrast, season 1 felt like an indirect/implied approach, i.e, seemingly random events happening around the world that were supposed to be actually all tied together, somehow did not make a lot of sense. Season 2 has us directly involved in everything. We are seeing things happening in front of us so nothing is implied. Need more of this.
Thank you ANET!
