Hey guys,
I want to ask you, what you think are the top 3 professiong in the following areas:
1. Fun: What professions do you enjoy the most?
2. PvE: Which do you think are the best PvE/dungeon professions?
3. PvP/WvW: Which professions are the best in PvP and WvW?

It would be good if you write your top 3 in each category and write why you think that.
Thank you!

Warning: Long post ahead.

Fun
1. Necromancer, Ranger, Thief.

Necromancer, the why
I’m a huge fan of debuffing people. Stripping boons and having control over peoples defenses is fun for me thus making Necromancer a very entertaining profession for me to play. I also very much love being a challenge for people to kill. It’s like some kind of monster you have to tear down but no matter how hard you try it just won’t die.

Ranger, the why
Personally, I enjoy my pets… It might come as a surprise to most since the majority of players hate their pets, but I feel accompanied by mine. Perhaps a part of this comes from real life as I have very strong connections to my furry compatriots. I also love the feel of a melee Ranger, the mobility and over-all grace of it makes it much more enjoyable to play for me than say, a Warrior for example that just feels like hack and slash.

Thief, the why
Maybe I’m a bit of a sadist, as I enjoy pressuring the weak about as much as I enjoy stripping them of their defenses. Being mainly a PvP/WvW player, I get to experience the full potential of a Thief’s pressuring abilities. I tend to roam in groups of 2 – 4 in WvW while on my Thief hiding in the shadows while my group engages people before I set my sights on the person nearest to death. I close in and finish the job before they know what hit them. I roll an executioner build and if I hit someone at 50% health or lower it’s pretty well GG. It just feels a lot more active and exciting to hide out on the side lines surveying the fights, carefully choosing the right moment to strike.

PvE
2. Warrior, Elementalist, Guardian

Warrior
Although I do not play any of the aforementioned, I am fully aware of their capabilities. Warrior is great at providing offensive support via boons like Might and Fury and applying damage buffers with banners. They are also extremely good damage dealers and with a good build they never fail to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Elementalist
The heaviest damage dealer in the game and also very capable of providing the group with tons of support. Since GW2 is a very group oriented game, it only makes sense that the professions that can provide the most support are the ones most wanted. With the ability to demolish a champions health bar without the help of others and enough cleanses both self and group to maintain themselves it seems like a no-brainer that they’re a very ideal profession for dungeons, PvE and if played well, WvW/PvP as well.

Guardian
Everybody needs a Guardian. Not much else I can say about them other than that they are the staple of all things group related and GW2 is a game based on group content. They are absolutely full of defensive and offensive support and are arguably the most balanced and unchanged profession in the game. Although they can be rather weak in PvP/WvW if not played skillfully, they are always wanted in PvE/dungeons and WvW groups for their support.

PvP/WvW
3. Necromancer, Warrior, Guardian

Necromancer
“GWEN” is the abbreviation commonly used in WvW to describe the ideal zerg. Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist, Necromancer. Necromancer is powerful both in group and solo. It is a very difficult profession for most to handle in small scale or 1v1 and in large scale it is very effective at keeping enemy defenses at a controlled level. It’s a bit of a toss up between Ele and Necro for my top 3 in PvP/WvW to be honest, but I say Necromancer only because I find it to be a better roamer and small scale fighter than Ele speaking strictly in terms of an average player. Ele, when played by a skilled player, would definitely take the lead between the two but that can be said about any profession.

Warrior
They are strong in all aspects of the game. They are powerful duelists, hardy and capable of frontlining zergs, high mobility, heavy damage, lots of sustain, an all around versatile and effective profession. They have their weaknesses, as does every profession. But it would seem in some cases that their weaknesses aren’t so weak, which never fails to make them a tough fight.

Guardian
Guards, while not so great in WvW roaming, are, on the other hand, great for 1v1 and small scale in PvP. Since there are no food or guard buffs there, their strengths tend to shine a bit brighter. They are great in WvW zergs and great solo and duo in PvP. Of course, played properly, they can also be a strong roamer in WvW but once again, I’m more so speaking in terms of the average player. Guards are great in many areas in WvW but are a bit more unforgiving to play as a roamer, however, IMO anyway, still better for roaming than an Ele.

Necromancer, Ranger, Warrior, Engineer
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma

Ranger, the why
Personally, I enjoy my pets… It might come as a surprise to most since the majority of players hate their pets, but I feel accompanied by mine. Perhaps a part of this comes from real life as I have very strong connections to my furry compatriots.

I would say most players that play ranger like their pets. Don’t let the loud voices in the forums make you think otherwise! I love my ranger for the same reasons you stated:D

Most fun to me?

1. Ele d/d all the way. Nothing beats it in terms of challenge, fun, in your face, edge of your seat gameplay, wrecking ball feel and pure awesome-sauce results.

2. Ranger because I love my animal companions and affinity with nature which closely resembles the real me. The combat is also fun with the “kick your feet up” pew pew to the action filled mobile melee combat.

3. Necro due to their ability to stay alive and just tear things up. Death Shroud just too much fun!

“What’s the best” is what you find fun to play and yet help your team succeed.

I play open world pve, solo or in a 2-man party.

The most fun for me is mesmer. I like the variety of weapons to choose from and the variety of builds/traits although lately I’ve used GS for ranged and sword/focus for melee mostly.

After mesmer I’d say ranger then elementalist. Like ranged with LB and melee with GS on my ranger. Like her cats and her loner personality fits more with mine. I like dealing damage with my elementalist using staff and using d/d. Recently I’ve been playing my engineer and having fun using kits. I especially like using bombs. But engineer hasn’t quite edged out elementalist for third place.

1. Fun: Elementalist, Mesmer, and Guardian
-Eles have so many different and fun spells to mess around with
-Mesmer is just so unique and I love the skill effects and the portal skill is just fun
-Guardians have the blunt force of a heavy class but also full of fun spells and things that make me love them so much.

2. PvE: Elementalist, Mesmer, and Guardian
-I looooove using the staff for my elementalists because it can do anything and of course the ever amazing ice bow and greatsword
-Using mesmer clones and conditions(especially torment) is just very enjoyable to me and I love the stealth
-My guardian feels like a god in pve with all the healing, buffs, and other supporting skills that really make me feel like everyone’s best friend ^^

3.WvW: Mesmer, Elementalist, Guardian

-I have a condition mesmer which I think is just the most fun thing in the world and is the only class that I actually feel confident with in wvw.
-I am not the best with my ele in wvw but omg I use her the most. Staff in wvw is just way too fun. If it was not for my low skill level, I would put her as #1.
-Guardian is the class I goto when I actually want to get up close with other players(not often :P) I love feeling supportive to my team and I love how easy it is to stay alive.

Didn’t plan on typing this much :s
