Once again, I’m excited for the expansion.

Unfortunately it’s release is a minimum of a little less than 3 months away.

Going to have to have something to fill that gap. Can’t keep throwing up mirages in place of the oasis – your audience will die of dehydration long before it arrives.

For those who say, take a break, I can’t. I am a guild leader and my members are bored – repetitive weekly events are barely filling the time.

I’d like to see at least minor communication about what is happening with the base game and whether or not we can expect ANYTHING until release time.

Most of my guild has gone inactive. Even I am barely playing an hour or two a day if that, and I used to play 5+ hours a day easily. I usually just hotjoin with a weird build/class to give myself something fresh to do, roam a bit in wvw and then quit.
For the first time in three years I can say I am bored with gw2. For the pricetag i’ve gotten my worth out of it, but if Anet desires a veteran community to provide an anchor and keep new players, keeping veteran players is important.

Something that we have told you EVERY SINGLE WEEK when you have made the more or less exact same thread.

Until we hear something else, there will be no new content.

The great thing about gw2 was, i could do that and not pay to come back.

Now I’m gonna have to pay to come back? Why should I, when there are lots of f2p releases out there that can take my gemstore money.
Then when i’ve invested in another game, thats even less chance of me coming back to it..?

I doubt reintroducing old events (without changing anything) will cost much manpower. And if it does, I would gladly wait 1-3 weeks longer for the addon than getting nothing at all until the addon.

How does bringing back content that already existed take away from the xpac? The structure for the Queen Pavillion is still there, and so is the SAB gate. They had time to do the April Fool’s stuff and create new scaffolding/structures in LA, surely they could afford to re-enable previous content.

People need to understand that you can’t just press a button and stuff magically work.
It is quite likely that it will have issues due to changes made since it was last available. Which would require fixing. Which would require taking manpower away from the expansion and such would potentially mean delaying work on said expansion.

Because it’s a reasonable thing to do. If you aren’t having fun right now, there are other things you can do in the interim. If they slow or stop production on the expansion, it’s just going to come out later.

The great thing about gw2 was, i could do that and not pay to come back.

And you still can. You can technically continue to play the game without buying the expansion. Many people have left the game for sometimes years and came back later without an issue. The only change here is, if you only come back once the expansion drops, is you’ll have to get the expansion for future updates to the game.

Now I’m gonna have to pay to come back? Why should I, when there are lots of f2p releases out there that can take my gemstore money.

I don’t think you realize what “F2P” means if they are going to take your “gemstore money”. Do you mean Freemium games? GW2 is classified as Buy2Play with the new addition of Expansion Buy2Play. You could come back before the expansion hits the stores; then you technically won’t be paying to come back :P . Thing is, confusing GW2 for a F2P game is the issue. It’s not comparable because it’s B2P.

Then when i’ve invested in another game, thats even less chance of me coming back to it..?

That’s an inherent risk Anet is taking. If you really love GW2, chances are you will definitely come back, even if you find another game you like. Believe this: many people have multiple games they play and enjoy. Right now I play a lot of GW2, but I used to play LoL a lot, now I play some Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. When HoT releases I’ll almost assuredly be playing that exclusively. Don’t feel like you’re not allowed to play more than one game at a time.

I meant by free to play, the likes of Aion(EU)/Tera which are F2P. I wasn’t calling gw2 a f2p game
These both have a cash shop/gemstore and I can invest in these for cosmetic items such as mounts or armor skins. (the same as I can in gw2)

The difference is from Anets point of view, that is money i could be spending on Gw2.

I, like many others do love gw2. The problem is, we’re going to “leave for a while” and go away with a negative attitude towards the game.

No new content
No information on when we’re getting any content new or otherwise
No events (since start of february)
Only “updates” are for Anet to make money
Next Xpac is released behind a pay-gate.

So what would bring me back when all I feel I can do right now is log in, collect log in-do daily and log out.
What would make me return before the Xpac exactly? I mean that’s what you’re saying ultimately, but if nothing drops before the Xpac, I’m not coming back before it since I have done pretty much everything the game has to offer me right now.

Other games b2p and f2p, have events.
One of the games I’m playing right now is events every single day nearly. Or week long ones, or month long ones.
They aren’t even new events. They are just events that are different to the regular game play.
These events usually just reward with something small, or something festive (like festive food/tonics)
We however, have nothing
not to mention the end game in gw2 is currently running behind a commander tag, pressing F to loot bandit chests

One cannot compare GW2’s lack of end-game content against subscription-based MMOs. Gem cash store aside, GW2’s business managers have no compelling reason to keep players around beyond the initial sale. Hence, the de-emphasis of end-game content.

One does not play GW2 vs. other MMOs because of the end-game.

If you want a steady stream of end-game content, you’re better off with WoW or another subscription-based MMO.

I’m actually starting to agree with this. The most sane thing to do would be to walk away from the game at the moment. Maybe come back when the expansion is out – if you still feel like it.

I don’t like the comment being tossed around that “they’ve more or less said there would be no new content until expansion”. If they had clearly said that, I’d play some other mmo, if they said there would be more content sooner, I wouldn’t renew any subscriptions.

I’ve done most of the stuff in game at this point. Farmed teq till I ad enough karma to buy out 3 sets of T3 cultural weapons, farmed silverwastes until I had every unlock in the area. Risen to a respectable point in PvP. Spammed auto-attack in several WvW zergs…

Besides unlocking the more obscure fashion pieces (which I’ll never use) there be zip to do. And in another forum someone claimed there had been no new content in over 100 days?

The living world thing is dead. New content will cost money. The production cycle has become painfully slow because of the reduced income of the model (i assume). Exact details were replaced with vague details were then replaced with no details.

The only thing that seems to have been clearly communicated is that Anet is not interested in creating dungeons and as a general practice they don’t like making armors because you have to make 1 for each armor type.

Have they broken any promises? Not really, unless you want to hold them to exact wording and several of the ideals they proudly proclaimed to stand for – and then quietly hoped everyone had forgotten about.

There comes a point where your time is worth more then the average subscription. If you still having fun in this game, great for you! If you’ve run out of stuff to do, perhaps its time to pay for content elsewhere – where that continual paying is put into the rapid development of content.

What new game modes?
-PvP Strong hold. Okay that’s one.
I have tried this and honestly it was more pve based than pvp. Promised to be the “guild wars” when its 5v5 whut?

-New maps I mentioned already.
-New profession is great, but other than the new maps.. is gonna be in the same dungeons/fractals/pve so levelling it to 80 is no different than the other 8 characters.

-Guild Halls – a new Home instance for crafting stations and meeting up? Yay, can’t travel to different instances as a party sooooooooo.. meh.

The specialisation system/elite specialisation isn’t really changing that much. It’s ultimately going to be press 1 and win @world bosses (which is the majority of the new pve we’re getting in the HoT update) Be honest with yourself please.

Etc Etc? Expand please.
New WvW maps, everyone gets these.

While you can argue they are not technically content… saying it wont impact the game in a huge way?… wut…??? it gonna impact the game for SURE, everyone basically have to redo their entire builds, and likely learn new ways to play your profession, is certain to impact the game WAY WAY WAY more than a temporary event thing, which is the most you can hope for in term of “true” content before HoT

And if you think HoT is only a bunch of QoL changes… then you either have NO idea what QoL means, or you have not read many if any of even the blog post, let along the devstreams

New Fractals – Not rehashed living story crap – Ideas

All the Missions from GW1
Elite Areas from GW1 – The Deep/Urgoz/FoW/UW/DoA
Dungeons from GW1 – Shards of Orr/Cathedral of Flame/Oolas Lab

Re-work the entire Fractal structure/rewards. More gold/Pristine Relics/Relics

Introduce a Fractal NPC Vendor with Fractal Weapon skins (10 pristines each) – needs work idk im spitballing.

Imo this was what fractals was designed for in the first place

FoW/DoA/UW type instances -Elite Areas
Requiring 8 man teams to spend 40+mins in to actually clear
(High risk/Reward System) being able to fail instance (not just keep trying till I win/give up)

Change dungeons to require all paths to be completed. Or remove the path system completely and make a Normal Mode/Hard Mode explorable of each dungeon incorporating the elements from each path.

(This would mean Normal Mode and Hard mode are different paths)

Up the rewards to 120 tokens NM 200 tokens HM (once per day NM or HM not both)

New maps – Already here

Open world

More bosses like Tequatl/Vinewrath/Trip Trouble – However even those do tend to be do mechanic then spam 1.

Buff up older maps – Queensdale, make rifts that appear at certain times and change the shadow Behemoth into the Shadow Aataxe (idk random thought) and make it actually a challenging engaging fight.

WvW – Not HoT specific but included

Remove the WvW concept that is “World Vs World” instead make EBG a multi server bloodbath (similar to EoTM but the same map as EBG)
Borderlands still work in the same way but point gain gives buffs (to ally servers) and reduction in siege stuff.

Obviously increase the EBG cap limit. But the home borderlands would be split into 6 servers in each kinda thing.

Home borderlands would need some sort of incentive to defend/attack too so some specific rewards for home BL fighting/enemy BL fighting (different to the multi server EBG)

Winning the round (weekly) granted the winning participating servers(and participating players) with unique rewards EXCLUSIVE TO THE WVW FIGHTING
Similar to how tournaments worked etc)

20vs 20 PvP guild Raids (Guild Battles)

Open world (like WvW maps but much much smaller with no buildings) for open world 20v20 death match fights. Maybe a bit smaller(15 or 10) would be some terrain (hills/corners/bridges)
Winning teams gain 3k PvP rank points/Guild Comms
Losing teams gain 1k Pvp Rank/less/no comms

New PvP Maps for COnquest

New PvP maps for Teamdeath match (ie courtyard)

Underwater combat map returns!!!!!!! (qq)

You’re dumb. You’ll die, and you’ll leave a dumb corpse.

The thing about getting bored in a game is that it will, without fail, happen eventually. There are a few ways to combat this (most of which being leaving the game) but there are a few things you can do to get your guild interested in playing. This is just a rough list that I’ve come up with on the fly, so I apologize if nothing interests you.

  • Large scale map-wide guild events, such as Jumping Puzzle races. Prizes to the winners!
  • Fashion contests. Who can make up the best outfit?
  • Game-wide crusades. Take your guild out for a stroll from Divinity’s Reach all the way to Arah, with some mini-events in between each map to keep things interesting (like quizzes, challenges, etc.)
  • If your guild is all on the same server, how about a WvW Naked Run? See how far you guys get while running armor-less! (better done in EotM)
  • Hide-And-Seek. Hide some officers around the world and provide screenshots as clues, and whoever finds an officer gets a prize!
  • Speaking of being naked (ooh-la-la!) how about a naked Dungeon Contest? How far can some of your members get without armor? Again, prizes for the winners!
  • Spork PvP Night. Build a custom PvP arena where you set your own rules, such as no meta builds, no healing, etc.

Just some ideas I scraped off the top of my head. I know they’re out there, but I always did these kinds of things with my guild in WoW when times between Xpacs and patches were a bit long. I always had fun doing those, so maybe they will work for you and your guild? Good luck!

We do a variety of events, 4 nights a week. This includes missions, which has been stagnant for months.

You release content for two weeks for a very long time, which works because that keeps people busy for that set amount of time. You can’t just then stop. For those playing since release there has been very little in the way of pure content addons in 3 years.

Releasing no content between now and the expansion is suicide.

Really, that’s a reason, your SSD drive? Perhaps you should have a larger SSD drive, or just add a second one….that would actually make more sense, because then you could just keep the games on the drive and go back to them when ever you felt like it. But of course, potentially you’re not one of those gamers that ever goes back to a game they played a few years ago…when my Terrabyte SSD is near getting full(it’s only 2/3 full right now), then I’ll get a second…much simpler to just keep everything loaded and on the drive then have to re-download it as well as what ever additional content may have been released in the interim. Of course this is just a suggestion and not everyone would want to do that…but then again, there are some people still playing the original GW.

While I agree that one eventually gets bored of games, there are games I toss out the window and games I come back to every seven months.

Guess why I uninstalled Diablo 2 in the end? Because thy released Diablo 3. Nothing else would have gotten me to do it. Heck, I’d still be playing WoW right now because of its awesome narrative (and regular updates -.-) if I didn’t feel personally slighted when Blizzard didn’t offer the WoW/Diablo opening special in my country.

Plants vs Zombies I will always play. Elder Scrolls games I will always play. Warframe I had to consciously ban myself from playing (as I was spending more hours on it per day then I spent each day farming in Guild Wars -.-).

The GW2 promise was that our hard work would never be devalued. While a bit harsh on the developers, if the fruits of your hard work cease to have relevance, then the value of your hard work devalues itself. I got the entire glowing carapace armor? Great! But as that was the last reward of Silverwastes, without further zones to show it off in, the only action I took on my carapace wearing toon once equiping the stuff was logging off. Haven’t touched her since.

MMOs/repetitive tasks/grinding are addictive. Most of the people who have the entire glowing carapace armor have it because we tend to fall for these “meaningful” time sinks. And I do. Repetitively.

So when I’m sitting around late at night, wondering if I’m wasting my time with a computer game I feel that something has gone iffy. I mean I get bored and shelf games regularly but I haven’t contemplated gaming as a waste of life since I got snared into a round of cookie clicker the evening before an important master’s proposal meeting – which ended with me clearing my cache, internet history, google history and face palming myself at 03:00 that morrning.

Well for starters my SSD is 128gigs and I bought it when I had a better paying job so there is that. Even though the price for the higher capacity SDD’s have come down by a large margin, I still am not going to go buy another one just to backup my old games. I could back up my old games onto older HDD’s, but once I grow bored of a game I generally don’t want to take the time to find all the needed files for a backup.

Point being that I thought I had finally found a game that could keep me interested by giving me more or less constant content. It now seems I was wrong and I am sure a new game will peak my interest before long if the drought continues.

I’m ArenaNET’s biggest fan.. and I’m down to logins and the quickest possible dailies for my main. I did spend an hour or so wandering around Orr on the weekend (ah, sweet nostalgia) but I’ve missed the last two Wild Wednesday Tequatl – and I think I’ve at most missed one since the event was redesigned.

My angry eyes are staring at the “Xpat or death” club.

That last line is worth considering. For years (yes, actual years) the club has been crying for an expansion and now people are moaning about content drought?
Games that operate based on expansions don’t really bring any meaningful content between expansions. Did you truly expect to get an expansion AND the regular updates?
They cannot just bring back things we already had because the same people would crucify them saying that they’re lazy and bring rehashed content.
Whatever.

That’s not even remotely true. I’d love a WvW tournament, SAB or something ELSE to do. You can’t build the game on 2 week releases, and then stop them, expansion or otherwise.

Nothing until xpak.
Get all your members to buy witcher3 or any steam promotional game and see ya.

Right now i am grinding some ap and world completion on alts (8/11 to go)

But Witcher 3 won’t run on the vast majority of PCs by GW2 players
Remember the vast majority of GW2 players are playing on potatoes

This game is cramped full of content already.

I personally suggest try getting as much map completion done as you can with as many classes as you can ready for when the switchover comes from Skill Points to Hero Points.

This, so much this. Get it, play it, love it. Taking a break from GW2 is totally not a big deal.

People need to understand that you can’t just press a button and stuff magically work.
It is quite likely that it will have issues due to changes made since it was last available. Which would require fixing. Which would require taking manpower away from the expansion and such would potentially mean delaying work on said expansion.

You need to understandd that you know as little as we do, unless you have worked on GW2 code or are a member of Anet’s staff. So yeah, bringing back old content might be as simple as pressing a magic button or take several guys weeks to test it thoroughly. We both don’t know, but you keep going with the assumption that fits your agenda and state it as a fact.

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

(qq)

Yeaaaaaah you know what the funny thing is? You’d still have a “meh” reaction to all that too.

How is minor communication about what is happening going to solve your problem of bored guild members?

I’d like a simple yes or no about any possible content so I can plan accordingly.

Ah but if the answer is no, and they say so a lot of players are going to leave. But if they keep it uncertain, then players might stick it out for the maybe.

One does not need to have worked on a specific project in order to understand that things created years ago before a massive amount of changes will need testing before re-release.

Heck, I can code something today, and one week from now it might no longer work as intended due to changes that have been made during that week.

Once again, this game was specifically built with two week releases in mind. Those of us who have played since release are out of content. Period. And have been beating on the same content for some time.

And again, I can’t just leave. I run a guild.

Was it? The two week releases started half a year after release after all. If it was specifically built with it in mind, why did they wait half a year before starting with it?

I have played since head-start (over 1000 days now) and I still have stuff to do. Sure, it is mainly the same stuff (I mainly play WvW) but anyone with any sort of acceptance of reality KNOWS that it is completely impossible for a company to create content faster than people complete it.

I have been “out of content” since basically a day after the last content patch. It is not something that magically happened recently. That will happen in every single game.

Why can’t you leave because you run a guild? Don’t you keep pointing out how no one in the guild is logging in due to nothing to do? So why would it matter if you left or not? Apparently the people in the guild doesn’t play anyway.

Unfortunately you were enjoying the game (as was I) when a majority of players were screaming for an Xpac on the forums. The saddest thing is now I spend more time reading the forums and reddit than I do playing due to the lack of new things to do.

I’ve been keeping myself entertained pretty well by working on world completion for all of my characters. I use a RNG site to choose which map to “work” next.

Also, it helps to have imaginative guildmates. Last night we had a lot of fun with an improvised “hide and seek” game, in which the “hider” offered prizes to whoever found him first. So you can make your own fun.

Just throwing it out there.

to the people saying “You dont know they cant just turn it on” Actually..for at least one thing, the SAB we do. Theres a post in the SAB merged thread that pretty much says “We broke SAB and have to do a lot to get it working properly”

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.
