I wanted to make a post which shares the frustrations of me and my Mrs who both play this game. I have been playing over a year now, and she is new to the game, after I managed to finally convince her how much better this is that the game she was currently ’WOW’d’ by

I could go on for ages about details, but you guys know the score enough for me to not need to do that. The points are

1) Commanders who pretty much bully you for starting an event or not doing what you are expected. My partner was actually upset by the abuse she received for not knowing she wasn’t meant to start an event. The commander was reported, but this did bring up several issued about the ‘zerg’ mentality and what this means for people who would like to play relaxed and do things at their own pace, which brings me to…

2) People who know the events so well they camp the mob spawns and you can’t get a hit in. We did the Grenth post-event several times and hardly managed to get any loot! She used plenty of AoE as an Ele and I use an Axe as a ranger, but kitten the mobs are downed so fast we can’t get a look in without knowing where the spawns are.

Don’t get me wrong, this is all good for players who enjoy it, and sometimes I do like to roll with the zerg, but this game gives you no real option but play that way, which is to it’s detriment imo. I expect a flurry of gg and qq replies which is cool, but this is a genuine issue for us, and I still regard GW2 as in my top 3 all time games, I’ve logged over 1,000 hours in a year and will play for a long time to come. My fear is that HoT will consist of more of this.

All it needs IMO is the mobs to scale better, so they don’t die within 0.5 seconds. I am not naïve enough to expect this to be changed or anything, and we adapt to how it is and still manage to find ways to have fun, but it’s still mega-annoying.

This is one of the reasons I avoid these zones or bother with group events in pve. The greediness and toxicity of farmers is well known and not something new they know how and when to get in on every event and farm it to its max potential. And have the nerve to verbally assualt anyone who dares to actually play the game differntly then they “allow” its just pathetic.

If you want a good farm, go to silverwastes because it is not a mob based farm but it is very rewarding and much more fun and challenging. So it will kind of solve your problems, you dont miss out on loot since you dont have to worry about tagging mobs and your supposed to do events, rather then being discouraged from doing them out of some stupid order the farm zerg doesnt want you to. So hopefully they will add more event, non mob based farm for pve and less cs/southsun type farm.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Well people are often running rounds so if a player start an event it goes out of sync. But never mind that, if they complain they are just being jerks. Learn the events and take part instead. Eventually you will know them all.

Agreed with both of you there, thanks guys.

We do play SW every day, once or twice. I think the trouble is Orr has large amount of mobs which have drops that are affected by MF, whereas SW is more bag-based.

1) sucks, but as long as noone of them knows where you are living and shows up at your front door, you can just safely ignore them (and report) and do your thang.
2) everyone has to live with loot tagging, even those people who kill those mobs so fast you can´t get a hit on them. But here is the kicker: the loot rules are the same for everyone, so you can improve just like they did at some point in their career. It is as easy as that.

This doesn’t help at all, it just makes the experience unpleasurable for new players, and to be honest, is not the answer to make the experience better.

I think it would help if the events could scale higher than they currently do with number of players around. With the megaservers and new dailies concentrating players into a particular zone, some events are over in a flash and can be hard to tag even with good DPS.

I actually really like the new system because it does encourage players to revisit zones, and makes them feel lively and well-populated – I just feel the events need to scale higher now that the majority of the player-base are maxed out in level and builds, and know he events well.

Exactly my point. The megaservers have made everything more populated, and no longer do we have whole zone wide NPC’s dead. I think the game needs re-tuning a little now though, as some of these events are pretty broken as they are, but could be SO much fun.

Mobs dying instantly in cursed shore events was an issue 2 years ago. Was nothing done about this in all that time? I’m disappointed tbh.

I’m somewhat happy that they moved it out of Queensdale at least.

My personal advice: Just go and start events. The more people do it, the less useful these circuits people run become, dissolving the toxic community by virtue of removing their habitat. Sure the players themselves are still idiots, but they don’t gather up in large groups as readily.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I play in Cursed Shore a lot as a solo player and I’ve been subject to the same behavior the OP describes. God forbid you should start something “out of order” as defined by someone with a colored tag. However…

There is a reason the game lets anyone start an event like Plinx or rez Izzy to re-start Mel.

I used to argue “We have more than enough players to run two events.” Now I just block as those players never have anything useful to hear anyway. Block is a wonderful tool.

Meanwhile, just announce the event and many non-zerg players will show up to have fun too.

As for all those little tin commanders who think they own the Map: Farming efficiency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Ignore the jerks, and do the events you want to do. Call out in map chat that the event is up, and more players will come. If anyone gets particularly rude, then report them for verbal abuse and block.

As for your second issue, once you learn the spawns for events (like everyone else), it’ll be easier for you to tag them. But yes, I agree that the normal mobs during big events like that need to be scaled up more, particularly during the Grenth event where you defend Jonez from all the waves. I don’t know why it and Gates of Arah aren’t already adjusted that way. Lyssa spawns champs and vets galore if there are a lot of people there. Even the first part of the Dwayna chain (Historian Vermoth escort) gets hard-hitting champs and vets with enough people.

One of the trade-offs in playing any MMO is that the enjoyment of being in an area where there are other players also leaves open the possibility of the aggravation of being in an area where there are other players. This is exacerbated in GW2 as opposed to other games, because GW2’s endgame pursuits largely take place in the persistent world. Many other games entice endgame players into group instances, where the only random player encounters are via the LFG tool.

As I recall, there was certainly the possibility of hate being thrown one’s way in an LFG group. I also recall many instances of players in small groups stealing spawns from single players from the other faction by tagging for PvP and then dropping AoE on the mob’s spawn point. If you used your own AoE, then they’d be tagged and you’d be dead. Sure, that’s the nature of faction-based PvP on a PvE server. However, it’s as annoying to me as players in GW2 deciding they own the map.

Event scaling is a two-edged sword. I remember when it was first being tested. One of the Lyssa pre-events scaled so much that there were 2-5 vet Nobles and Aboms per player, and they respawned faster than players could kill them. Think of how many downed players result from one Vet Abom in the final Melandru event now…

I believe that event scaling could use some tweaks. However, as to players behaving with entitled rudeness, this is going to happen as long as ANet focuses on group content in massive, public instances and as long as their focus on rewards is as it is currently. The only real resort for player rudeness is, and is likely to remain, the block feature.

The best thing do for zerg events to get loot is fill/join a party otherwise you won’t do enough damage solo to count. Type lfg in say chat or just click on people to invite them.

There is an event in either straits of devastation or malchors leap that actually spawns 3 champ aboms when the number is high enough. maybe they could add a few more of these type events to keep the zergs under control.

I’m just going to echo what others have already stated.
First and foremost, these farmers do not own the map.
There is zero reason why you or anybody else can not start an event or an event chain. And if somebody with a little icon over their head that they bought wants to throw a fit and verbally harass you because you did, then Report them for such, Block, and then continue on enjoying your time with your wife.
