Hello Everyone,
OK so let me start off by presenting my problem. I love my mesmer and have a LOT of hours of play on him. I am a 60. Ik most people are gonna tell me to re-roll but I get burned out fast on gw2 leveling so redoing those levels could be the end of my time here(lol). I made the mistake of not paying attention to my story for all 60 levels. I really want to get into the lore of gw2 with the upcoming xpac. I just dont know what to do. Am I able to redo story missions or am I stuck? Basically do I reroll my character and risk not wanting to play anymore, or do I just move on lost without the story?

You can never redo missions.

However, you can join a friend on the journey (ie particpate in their personal story instances) and experience the lore w/o ever having to level a toon

To be honest, I wouldn’t say you missed a massive amount – the wiki is by far a better source of lore and background info. That will help you catch up. Also your story journal will give you all the lore highlights you need in an abridged form

You can’t reply the personal story on your existing character.

If you want to replay it and don’t want to level up manually your best bet is probably to use a level 20 scroll (from your characters birthday gift) and Tomes of Knowledge to level. Maybe the XP scrolls from dailies too if you do them.

If you go that route I recommend using the scroll, then doing the story and only using tomes as needed to unlock chapters, because you get XP from doing the story which will give you a couple of ‘free’ levels.

agree with this! read your story journal (hit H) and go wiki the name of whatever quest catches your eye. there’ll be a more in-depth plot summary there.

pretty much this. I wish you could replay PS though – particularly the air drop mission in Orr. (why do the priory have all the fun toys?)

For anyone wanting to get in on the lore of Guild Wars, I cannot recommend the books enough. They aren’t overly long or dense so it’s a quick read, but they are dense enough for anyone who loves Guild Wars to get 3 really good doses of awesomeness. You will learn a huge amount about the games from the 3 books.

As far as your character goes, I personally wouldn’t be scared of remaking it. And while I agree the leveling on this game isn’t the best, they have made a lot of changes since release and I think leveling is actually way better than it used to be. The way your story is presented is a lot more interesting, and the level rewards and restructuring of unlocks make leveling a little more satisfying. But if you’re totally against leveling, you can always use Scrolls and Tomes to non-level your way to 80, using crafting and dungeon runs to quickly get any levels the items couldn’t get.

The easiest way to enjoy this game is to slow down, and not let everyone else’s cynicism and unreasonably high expectations play into your agenda. People are so overly critical that it’s started to affect other gamers, to the point where they feel obligated to keep up or prove themselves, and it robs them of enjoying the actual game. Other people treat it like a business, constantly being unsatisfied with how much gold or loot they obtain. I’ve recently tasked myself with getting back to the ‘role-playing’ aspect of MMORPGs, and I’ve found it quite rewarding. If you want lore, just put yourself in the Mesmer’s shoes, and do what you would do if you were in that world. Generally, this way of playing doesn’t offer enough non-stop stimulation for people, but it’s great for uncovering the finer details in the game.
