In my opinion this wave of complaints about “end game” are coming mostly from the hard-core “gotta-max-level-asap” crowd who rushed through a game that wasn’t designed to be rushed through.

It’s like opening the box to Monopoly, picking the race car, stacking all the money and properties in front of you and placing hotels all over the place and then complaining that the game is completely lacking in substance.

End game is just PvP, that’s all it is. It’s funny because the “hard-core” gamers you’re making fun of are the ones revealing the actual problems with the game early before the casuals get to it. Most people at 80 are losing interest and you’re in denial if you believe otherwise

Fine by me. Those aren’t the people I want to play with, anyway, and to be quite honest, those people are in the vast minority, so your myopic view is pretty irrelevant.

And with regard to you trying to make them heroes for watching out for the casuals?

LOL!

Yeah, right.

He’s reiterating the same thing that ANET has been saying all this time. They explicitly said what the “end game” was, and would not be, in GW2. Now you have people coming to the forums and complaining that they got exactly what Anet said they would be getting in GW2 as far as any “end game” is concerned.

I think that more than anything, this was a message to reiterate that this is what GW2 is about, and will be about in the future. If it’s not your cup of tea, go find something that is more to your liking.

You’re wasting your breath.

It’s as if they’ve walked into a shoe store and can’t believe there is no meat department and stand in front of the counter demanding a meat market.

It’s ridiculous and it really needs to be 100% discounted. The fact there is no endgame like all the other MMOs is absolutely NO SURPRISE WHATSOEVER. They have been talking about it for years.

Those that bought the game and expected otherwise were the ones who were fooling themselves, and they are going to be disappointed after they fly though missing 90% of the content because they’re just hell-bent on reaching max level.

Eventually it will sink into their heads that this isn’t the game for them and they will leave. And that, in my opinion, will better the game right there.

I don’t care about story, lore or cutscenes. And there’s no end-game for me. No PVP/character-progression after 80, and not a million Jormag/Charrzooka events will change it. The game needs to be changed on a fundamental level. There needs to be added PVPlevels and rewards for killing off players, something that will take years(5+) to grind to max level.

certainly the game does not have to be changed fundamentally. A shocking thought: you play pvp for the enjoyment of it? Adding pvplevels and stuff like that tends to make pvp absolutely unbalanced and unenjoyable.

Also, if you do not care about the game world at all, are you really sure a RPG, even toned down as it is in MMORPG, is the right game for you?

Your opinion is wrong.

Fact of the matter is that there is only one lvl80 zone, and one or two dungeons.
Compare that with more zones for lower levels than you need to visit to level up to 80.

Not to mention that dungeon grinding is old-school. Nice for those who like that sort of thing, but not the innovation that sets GW2 appart from other mmorpgs.

There is plenty to do in game, people are just lost without the gear treadmill.

I could not care less about any treadmill.

In fact as far as i’m concerned they could do away with all or most of the leveling. And although i appreciate crafters and i’ll gladly gather the mats and coin needed to get them to make gear for me, crafting is not my thing either.
I’m here for easily accessible, challenging-but-balanced multiplayer combat (which means WvW in its current state is not an option for me). Dynamic events offer that for lvl 1 to 79, but there’s very little of such content for lvl80.

my thoughts on this endgame is i don’t really like it. I enjoyed the game and all, but it feels like a single player game with some multiplayer on the side.

i enjoy mmo’s more than rpgs for the sake of being able to spend lots of time and having people go “wow this guy looks strong and skilled” and for the sake that what you are doing is not just to get strong enough to reveal the end of the story but to get ready for actual really hard, really epic fights.

How many WoW expansions released during GW1’s life cycle, and how quickly did GW1 die?

I’m sorry, what’s that? It didn’t? Ya don’t say!

MoP is no threat. Hell, it’ll be a boon; every uninformed consumer who bought GW2 thinking it would be another WoW clone will go back to the game this one was made to break away from instead of coming to the forums trying to turn this game into, well, the game it was made to break away from.

Their entire design philosophy is flawed. They say they want “endgame” PvE to be everything from 1-80 and stay the same at 80, but at 80 you have no character progression, no story progression, no gear progression, no exploratory progression, no content progression ect. It all stops at 80 because of all of these things ending at 80. The only hidden truth in their statement is that the game is heading towards completion at 80 only to be shelved as it has no staying power as an MMORPG game unless all you want to do is PvP.

1-80:
You constantly upgrade new gear and items and can still customize your aesthetic looks.

You constantly explore new areas and dungeons.

You constantly gain utility skills and open up new playstyles through more and new traits.

You become more powerful as you level or at least have some sense of character progression and growth.

At 80:
You grind skill points to change the look of your items

You grind dungeons for items with the exact same stats as the ones you already have.

You grind the same DE’s and areas you spent lots of time in on the way to 80 and 100% map completion on. They aren’t even different, unique, or imaginative and 95% of them are forms of “escort X to Y” or “defend X from Y” or “take over X from Y”. No unique mechanics, no special strategies, no difficult challenges to overcome. The only unique DE’s are the handful of dragons and they aren’t even worthy to be considered mobs as most of them aren’t even “mobile” outside of cinematic animation form. It honestly feels like you are beating on a giant wall and not some deadly or dangerous and challenging boss.

Your character progression completely stagnates, unless you are vane and only care about aesthetics.

I’m no wow fanboy, I don’t even like the game but when I just think in a realistic way, that’s what I see. When you reach 80 in Guild Wars 2, there is absolutely nothing to do. WvWvW and dungeons have the potential to be massive endgame events, and they are supposed to be, however things just gone wrong if you ask me.

As I said before-I actually have a suggestion topic about this-, with small modifications applied to WvWvW and dungeons, endgame will turn out to be just awesome and that will be the time GW2 crushes many games out there.

So you find it balanced to be able to go back to lower level areas as part of “endgame” and kill elites in a few hits? Of course it’s my opinion and my opinion is that the game is incredibly easy and thus no progression. The real question is why you have to take such a stance when anyone gives their opinion on the system yet give no rebuttal or argument nor examples.

Guild Wars 2 has lots of wow players, I’m not one though, I hate that game but in my opinion, if ANet is gonna release a content update soon, they should make it sooner like, in a week.

I know ANet will come up with awesome content updates, new features and such but I’m just worried about the game’s reputation. I know every new MMO is, well, new and they may get developed in time. I know GW2 will get even better in time but all I’m asking from ANet is sooner content updates.

I am one of those players you speak of. Along with a half-dozen of my guildmates in this game. Not a single one of us has any plans to buy MoP because we are absolutely loving this game and the lack of pressure to zip to 80 so we can run some mechanical raid once a week in the hopes that a chest that gives us 10 more agility drops and THEN hoping we win the roll.

Asking for more content to a game of this size which has only been out for a little over two weeks is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of.

People of the internet never cease to amaze me.

(Not pointing this at you, just saying it about people in general who zipped to 80 in two weeks and then whine about no end game.)

Jeez. Powerleveling to 80 in such a short time and complaining about no end-game? Im not sure ANY end-game would satisfy your type of crowd anyway. You would just be finished with it in 1 week, unless its somekinda unrealistic grind of “gather 1 million components for this”. Sorry, i , and most likely many others dont want that.

Or would you prefer the WoW model where you bash your head on the same 8 bosses for 6 months? Been there, done that. Im in GW for something different, and for me, its working.

Their entire design philosophy is flawed. They say they want “endgame” PvE to be everything from 1-80 and stay the same at 80, but at 80 you have no character progression, no story progression, no gear progression, no exploratory progression, no content progression ect.

I don’t care very much about those progressions. They are just nice additions to what imo is the core of the PvE gameplay: dynamic events. I want my gear just to be good enough for whatever needs to be done, and i want to tinker with the looks of it.

The problem is that lvl 80 chars don’t scale down properly for lower level areas to be much of a challenge. It’s still nice but not the challenge that on-level content is.

If they want all of the content to be suitable for end-game, they might just as well do away with the leveling alltogether. They’d have my blessing.
There could be an optional noob/tutorial area, a vast main world to play in with some differentiation in difficulty (but not as much as lvl 1 vs lvl 80), and there’d be some hardcore dungeons for those who like dungeon crawling. There could still be crafting and some progression wrt specialization, gear and skill unlocking. But the point would not be to run the gear treadmill, the main point would be to fight battles.

i actually do not consider my 80 as being powerleveled. It just came so quickly. I played EQ mind you and so anything is considered fast by comparison, certainly this 80 was done easily and without any drama . I admit, i did do the Orr rotation and got 1 level from it but the rest of the time i just wondering and doing hearts and i was 78 by the time i hit Orr .

i am not sure how folk can consider getting to 2 mill karma less a grind than what WoW gave you… And do not even suggest for 1 moment that the 2 million karma will come from non repetitive tasks done over and over again ( 60 odd runs / dungeon explorer mode for 1 set of armor? ) . Cmon, you are lying to yourself if that is not a grind.
