It should give a minimum of 2 extra characters slots.

It should give at least 2000 gems, 4000 if you’re a day 1 “veteran”.

The server fees can pay themselves.

The employees can pay themselves.

Doesn’t matter GW2 doesn’t have monthly fees, because “I” spend a LOT of money on optional Gem store purchases.

It should have a free pet.

Gliding, guild halls, new battleground type, new battleground art, complete class overhauls, multiple class specialisations for each class, new class, new zone(s), new monsters, new story are all minor additions that are barely more than a content patch.

On top of that, I am outraged that GW2 expansion costs as much as a WoW expansion, which offers faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar more quality content thanks to its monthly fee and Blizzard’s commitment to quality. It even gives a free copy of GW1 to new players? That’s BS, Blizzard only asks 30$ of new players to get previous expansions, plus you get them in a neat battlechest.

What does ArenaNet gives us? Nothing.

While I’m of the opinion that $50 is not fair price for the given content, I have to strongly disagree with you about making it free. Our gem store purchases went to funding the continued operation of GW2, development of LS, and feature updates, it shouldn’t cover the cost of the expansion itself.

Finally someone who gets it.

This whole situation has become like the video game version of the Friend Zone. So many people angry that a company that created a product that they love has the audacity to want to expand its consumer base in order to, you know, cover their expenses and continue turning out the product that they love. But unless the players get exactly what they want, based on what they perceive others to be getting, the product that they claim to love becomes utterly disposable.

Yes, I’m familiar with loyalty schemes. There’s even one in GW2, in the form of log-in rewards, birthday gifts, and other shinies as I recall over the years. Amazing, but true.

I think you misunderstood my point. I was envisioning stomping into my local store, kittening and yelling because I felt entitled to have my shopping for free now. There’s a lot of that around here at the moment.

To answer your question in my opinion, yes it is. There’s been a good chunk of content revealed with more to come and likely continued additions as the story unfolds with the living story. The price worth is subjective (I think it’s too high for my pocket tho) but plenty had been revealed to warrant the pre purchase.

I’m not speculating over assumptions either, I’m speculating over what has been revealed. If you’ve been following the development of HoT, you should know that Colin already stated in interviews (it may have been the Angry Joe or MattVisual interviews, there’s a third that was done over the phone but having problems finding it now) that HoT will not be as big as traditional expansions, but what it will be bringing are the frameworks (Masteries, Specializations, etc.) that future expansions will be using to grow GW2 with.

To be clear: it’s already been stated HoT will not be as big as other MMO expansions.

Yet we’re not just being charged a standard expansion price ($30~$40), we’re being charged a premium and have to buy a character slot separately. Unless ANet’s actually been hiding an entire continent under the wraps, I don’t expect to be surprised when HoT’s released.

As a loyal veteran, I think Anet should give me a monthly salary for my continued support. HoT can be a nice overtime bonus.

Screw it being free. ANET should be paying US to play the xpac. I mean really, do they know who WE are? The sheer notoriety they get from having us on their servers should be more than enough to make up for it.

I think £35 is abit too much for an expansion . There should be an expansion only price( with no base game for old players at a discounted price and £35+ for new players or people who want an new account.

the 50$ seem like a fair price, we not have to pay anything but the game for who knows how long. For me it been 6 months, my partner, she has the game for two years. When you think of other games that make you continue to pay to just play like Wow, or any other mmo, you save like what, $15 a month. If you bought any gems, that should not add atop the argument, I see gems as a donation of service for a quality and fun time here.
Now with all that said, I do feel just a tiny irk that if a new player join they get all these great gift, like bank tabs and such, and that fine, I glad new players, I just with, we got something too, like say a bank tab, or player slot, or something.
Most likely will get HoT in good time, but is it really worth all this anger over a game?

It’s not just these forums. I don’t know how many times I’ve linked Poe’s Law since I stumbled onto it, but it remains true.

All I would want is a free character slot so linking the brand new expansion to my old account doesn’t feel like a total loss.
