What do you mean by “drops”? As loot? No.
Or: No, they do not make gemstore armor sets anymore only parts (gloves, boots, etc). Anet “dropped” that idea.
However, you can still get anything/everything you want from the gem shop by converting coin to gems. Obviously, it’s a lot of coin when look at in isolation, but it’s not necessarily much when compared to other coveted skins in the game
For example, a single weight of zodiac armor costs 800 gems. At the peak conversion rate a few months ago, that would have cost you 320 gold, which is less than the TP cost of the Lightward’s Battlestaff
(these days, the conversion cost for 800 gems is close to 240 gold)

Did you also get the Deluxe Edition of the game around then?
Yeah, it’s more likely that you bought the deluxe edition or something else that came with the profane set. It’s never been in any loot table, as far as I know.

I got the normal version of the game for $40 at the time idk if it was heroic or not, but I was NOT presented with a “choose this armor” page, and I do not have the other bonuses like the wolf, the mini, etc. I’m also 89% sure I saw it all pop in my inventory after o looted some enemy
For something to drop it has to be put in the loot table by a Dev. There are no boxes of armor in the loot table and certainly no gemstore boxes of armor in any mobs loot table. What’s much more likely is you bought the Heroic or Deluxe edition or bought the armor, got a box of the armor and forgot that it was in your inventory and thought it was a drop afterwards. If you did somehow get it as a drop it was a very strange and unusual bug that no one else has reported.

Did you take part in one the HoT closed beta / stress tests last year, in either March or May. There was an odd side-effect to those where players who bought the game before the herioc edition existed got sent the chest of gem store armour.

The heroic chest that gave you a choice of armor was account bound and sent to you through the in game mail when you logged in for the first time after creating or upgrading your account.
I’m pretty sure the Profane Light Armor was never a random loot drop. You wouldn’t get a full set of armor from an enemy anyway. It would be only 1 piece.
Here’s what you can do: click ‘Support’ at the top or bottom of the page and ask them to check your account records for how you acquired the armor.

They announced over two years ago that they weren’t releasing new sets to the gem shop. They had been releasing now a set consists of each three weights, some with unique racial variants. They had sold them for 800 gems for each weight. MO, Mike O’Brien, said it takes roughly 9 man months of time to develop a set.
But they do release new helm, glove, shoulders and recently boots, usable on any of the armor weights and no racial variants and each piece sells for upwards of 500 gems ( mostly 200-300 gems range). Now those type of pieces can also be rewards in game as well as the plethora of back pieces we got as rewards over the years.
I tried to get the hot things but never got a drop – but the situation this topic is about was long before that. I bought the standard edition and I do not have any (other?) heroic edition benefits.
I guess I’m crazy, but I’d bet my kitteningn life that I got it as a drop.. Since I did NOT buy gems or the heroic edition.. Idk..
The answer to your question ‘does the game drop gemstore armor sets’ is no. If it did drop one for you it was a bug of some sort and not a normal drop. As said above, if you really want to know you can make a ticket, give the approximate date and ask support if it came from the gemstore by purchase or the upgrade that came with the beta accounts. That would answer your question better than our speculations of what might have happened.
Standard Edition is (now) Heroic Edition. Do not confuse Heroic Edition with (Digital) Deluxe Edition. Those participating in one of the HoT Betas all received one when the SKU was updated/changed.
A bug also allowed some players to receive the Heroic Chest (which can include Profane Armor).
If you bought the Standard Edition a year and a half ago then you would have got the Heroic Edition (HE) bonus items. These were added to all accounts created after the 1st anniversary.
It’s completely different from the Digital Deluxe Edition (DDE). The DDE gives you the Mistfire Wolf skill, mini Rytlock, bonus guild and PvP currency etc.
The HE gives you 10 XP boosters, an 18 slot mithril box and a set of gemstore armour from a choice of: Primeval, Profane and Krytan.
There is no choose your armour page for this – you just get mailed a chest and when you open it you get the bag and boosters and a 2nd chest which lets you pick the armour set. When you make that choice you get 2 things: a set of low level armour with those skins (separate pieces) and a set of skins which can be applied to any other armour of the same weight (e.g. primeval can only be applied to heavy armour).
Between that and the fact that there’s never been another report of gemstore armour dropping in game (and I’m sure Anet would announce it if they decided to do that) I think it’s much more likely you either killed something and then noticed the armour in your inventory or you killed something, got a different armour piece (maybe with a similar icon) and mixed up which one was the drop and which was there before.
Fenom: Does Profane armor show in your wardrobe? If you see the whole set of Profane, then obviously you got the chest sent to you. If some random piece of Profane somehow dropped for you, then that’s another issue.

That’s it!! I have an 18 slot mithril bag and I have no clue how the kitten I got it either! And I’ve got tons of xp boosts.. The only question is how did I choose profane without knowing I even had a box of loot?
