I agree with the first two, but there are so many people who solo MMOs it’s not funny. Well, maybe it is funny…but it’s true. A lot of people play MMOs without ever joining a guild or grouping with anyone.
I find that hard to believe. I’m not saying that you have to like talking to other players, just that you have to like playing alongside others. It’s pretty hard to avoid, especially in Guild Wars 2.

I was referring to your line about needing other players to complete content. While I agree that’s the goal of most MMOs, a lot of people get very annoyed by it. We see posts by them on the forums all the time. People who get to the end of the personal story and suddenly have to do a dungeon get mad. There’s even people in my guild like that.
It would be nice if people, like the OP, were able to have a week long trial to try out the game instead of paying full whack and then going through the trouble of asking for a refund which may, or may not be given.

Or they can research the game before buying it. Like most other people do.

Since when was research the same as actual participation?
I thought that was the reason why in general, we separate practice and theory.
Sure, it’ll give you a rough standing on the game, but getting in, trying things at a personal level, seeing how things work is different from just reading a review, or scrolling through endless threads on reddit or here “QQing”
Anyway…what’s so bad about allowing a trial period?

You can however get a rather good feel about the game by checking those millions of youtube-videos and such out there.
As for what is bad with it: The massive amount of trolls that will make accounts simply to troll. If it is free they lose nothing by trolling and getting banned.

It’s easy to say “just use youtube”, when we both know that very few of them hold a well rounded view of the game, very few of them are an overall look at the game on the whole, and have been done very shortly after release which means they’re not updated (which should be a big deal since it’s an ever-evolving MMO), and what GW2 videos there are, usually focus on key things in game that an already established player is looking for…not one that knows nothing about the game would be looking for.
Not sure how far the trolling could go in game. I get it in forums, but don’t know about it in terms of In-game. Care to elaborate?
And does this mean the karka event promoted trolling by having trial invites? does this mean every other MMO with trials promote trolling?

I think that there’s free weekends going on now and then. I suppose people should just wait and catch that weekend before buying :P
How does someone play to level 5 and consider it done? xD! wow, clearly they barely tried and it may just not be for them.
My buddy is having these same exact problems. He logs in on his Guardian and tries to do a heart or anything really. He’s level 7 and attacks level 7 mobs. He dies. Then he logs off.
I believe he had a preconceived idea that he did not like the game. He plays a lot of different games and enjoys them. But, since me and my buddy said we were moving to GW2 from WoW he disliked GW2 and argued against moving. So now it seems he can’t get into the game cause he blames it for tearing up the guild.
On the other hand, my other buddy and I are playing the hell out of the game and now have a few 80s. Oh well. If you can’t get into the game and can’t find a reason to have fun, move on.
Researching isn’t effective for this game since there’s nothing to compare it to in terms of combat and how things are done. It includes regular mmo things but the combat and character aspects are totally different. You have to actually play it to understand what it’s all about.

I agree with this. This game has too many non-standard features to expect people to know what’s going on. I mean how many MMOs can you name where every character you create must be on the same server, even?
