- Fresh breath of air into a tired and dying genre
- Underwater combat is well tweaked and very fun to take part in
- Beautifully crafted world that takes my breath away
- Client that is very well optimized, running smoother than games released a few years ago on the same PC
- Ability to play with friends at any level anywhere, any time
- Dangling the carrot of Guesting (come on, me wants!)
- I hate to sound cheesy, but it puts the Massively Multiplayer back into MMoRPG
- Griefing has been kept to a minimum as the game rewards participation and co-operation
- Harsh economy, making every purchase count
- One AH for all realms and regions, meaning there will always be a good supply of what you need (although the AH itself is very confusing)
- Responsive, engaging combat that makes you feel like most fights are a fight to the death
- Instanced nodes, allowing you to grab that ore when you want to, not as a race with the 40 other people waiting behind you for someone to aggro the monsters in the way
- Beautiful music, ambient enough to be in the background, but well made enough to stand out
- Vistas, in that they reward you for exploring the backs, beyonds, peaks and troughs of the world

That’s just a few for now.

I love how they handled the melee classes. I never was a melee player, but love it here.

I had a moment alone, I was swimming alone in the ocean no one was around. there weren’t any mobs to aggro there either. I came across a mountain thesun was setting over it and there was a redish reflection in the water. It was just beautiful. Plus the sounds of thewater. It really was otherworldly. Was the most beautiful thing I ever experienced in a game.

I like how I would complete vista and say how nice the artwork was and move on. Then I found out the vistas actually serve more of a purpose than just showing off the artwork. I now study each vista looking for things I can climb, people to talk to, caves to explore, etc.. Have found some nice hidden areas I would have otherwise missed.

At some point way back in early development a bunch of people agreed that player cooperation would be rewarded and one player advancing their character would not hinder another player advancing theirs. All those people deserve a vigorous crotch rub imo. The cooperative game play aspect that is obviously built into the game at a fundamental level is fantastic. In ten years I’ve not seen another mmo do this as well or as completely and it feels great.

This is the nature of forums, people mostly use them to discuss issues, and that naturally covers the gamut from constructive criticism to blatant hating.

I’d just like to mention a good thing I’ve noticed – dev communication. Really like the way the devs show up and comment here and there. I haven’t seen that in many MMOs. Often its all up to the CSRs and sometimes that’s even a matter of policy.

So for that, I just want to say thanks, ANet. It’s much appreciated.

I hate to generalize but I’m noticing a trend with the people that are posting negatively when it relates to “Endgame” content and that’s they’re used to how it’s been done for the last decade. They got this game for something new but want the same tired elements that made the MMO genre stale.

As far as good things go…I think the RP experience is freaking amazing. The social aspect to the game is deep and wide, and players get very wrapped up in the Lore. I’ve “wasted” probably 50-60 hours so far just doing role-play.

Pretty much everything has been said already so I just want to say that I’m a happy customer with an overall very satisfying experience so far. Not only in the game, but also with the communication from the team in general.
I’m having a good time and I’m looking forward to the things to come.

Jumping puzzles…nuff said.

But also I would just like to put this in perspective.

Yes, there are a lot of negative threads (especially on the General Discussion forum which is always trolly). However, one must remember that the reason is that all the people who enjoy the game are playing the game, not listening to the horde of trolls on the forums.

And occasionally the trolls are justified because they have a legitimate issue, but honestly, when I see “U NO HAV FLOWERZ @ (insert random point here)”, I do not want to use the forums either.

ahhh there was one particular area (forget where exactly) that had lots of small cliffs and drop offs, and the fastest way to get around the area is to jump from these cliffs, well i was standing near a waypoint just salvaging some items when a human plops on the ground next to me, the guy gets up and nonchalantly runs away, then a charr plops face first, then another human, then a asura, then a nord. there was maybe 5 or 6 different people falling from this cliff, all one after another.

for some reason i could NOT stop laughing, it was so random and out of nowhere and the animation when someone belly flops on their face is fuggin priceless! xD

I like how I can write or download an agent to play the game for me, so when I wake up in the morning I have become significantly richer than my fellow players. Further, I am enjoying the inaction of those supposed to prevent this, allowing me to continue without fear of reprisal.

What good is there in any of this game if ANet aren’t committed to adressing bots?

I like that I can sit down at my sleeping computer, and be fully playing the game within about 30 seconds. No long connection or load times when starting up the game. And when I log out, it just boom, logs right out, no drawn-out exit process. I was so used to long start-up times from WoW, DayZ, The Secret World, etc…

I only have one thing to post in this thread and it’s that any problems you have with this game are being addressed by ArenaNet.

I love the devotion and work put into this game, and am excited for future updates, bug fixes, expansions, new progress on lore, world areas (Cantha/Elona), Holidays, the works.

I have my complaints. Everyone does. If you expected this to be perfect and fulfill every need, especially a game as ambitious and with a new MMO Combat system like this, you bought it too early.

This may seem strange to some, but every day i log on and play i always find my self thinking of how great the sound effects in this game are.

Most people comment on graphics etc… but for me one of the most important things in any game even above graphics are the sounds. I’m not just talking about music and voice acting, but footsteps, rain, water, wind… i often find my self jumping on the side of mountains just to hear that rock falling sound, not sure why but a good sounding world really pulls me in.

All i can say is well done ArenaNet, not only have you created a truly beautiful richly detailed world, but you also got the sound effects spot on in my opinion.

For me it was doing TA Story (don’t worry no spoilers)

I was with a decent (playing wise) group of players which consisted of 1 guildie and 3 PUGS. Right before the last boss we decided to take a 5 minute break. As we start to slowly trickle back we were chatting and we all ended up sitting there for about 15 minutes just shooting the breeze about our real lives, previous MMO’s we play and other games we enjoy, our jobs, whatever. Finally we realized we were all back and get ready to roll.

Just as we pull a mob one of the guys DC’s. We wait for him and he doesn’t come back so we get a 5th and finish the dungeon.

The next day my guildie and I get a message from the guy who DC’d apologizing profusely because his internet died and apparently he had to make a service call. Since then we’ve played together some more and he’s now in our guild.

The point is there are some really fun and awesome people in the game.

A friend and I came across a really high cliff overlooking some water, totally perfect for leaping off of…there was even a convenient pair of swimming goggles. He went first and I laughed as he hit the water. Then my turn came. A dramatic run and leap…and I miss the water entirely and die painfully on the ground below. The damage was hilarious, something like 20k when I only had like 1500 to begin with!

This whole game has been full of hilarious and amazing moments for me so far. No major complaints from me.

omg the belly flops SLAY ME. I also giggle madly whenever I see an Asura stumble and recover after jumping. So awesome. Just those little details in the animations bring so much richness to the game.

Oh, something positive? Hmmm, so many great things to choose from! I think I’ll post about last Friday’s rollback. Wait, wait! Before y’all grab the torches and pitchforks, I promise this is a positive story!

So Friday night, I had just completed a personal story quest and exited my mission into Malchor’s Leap. I had just a sliver of XP left to bring my main to level 80 after I was done with my mission. So my boyfriend and I took down two or three Risen to bring me up to Level 80. Ding! Level 80! Snagged my “Level Up!” screenshot to commemorate the moment.

Once I was done with my “my first character hit level 80” happy dance, I tried to zone to Lion’s Arch to take care of some housekeeping items. Got suck in the load screen and subsequently was booted from the game. Tried logging in a couple more times, noticed ArenaNet’s tweet about the log-in server issues and decide to take a much needed break.

When the servers were back up and I was able to log back in, I found that I had been rolled back ever so slightly to when I zoned from completed my personal story mission to Malchor’s Leap. So it counted my mission completion, but it didn’t count the two or three kills that I had completed to bring myself to level 80 and I was level 79 once again. So I grabbed two or three more baddies, leveled up to 80 again and grabbed another “my first level 80 just hit 80” screenie (an even better one this time!).

So thanks those log-in server issues, I got to experience hitting level 80 for the first time TWICE on on my main! It was such a totally awesome and memorable way to hit 80! This is probably the one and only time you’ll hear me say this…thanks ArenaNet for the glitch!

I love how my characters feel so powerful, even at low levels. My 15 guardian can leap into a pack of 4-5 centaurs or bandits and usually take them all out. The hits sound powerful and mobs go flying! The effects are perfect and awesome! I really get the sense that my characters are heroic and the way many areas are set up, I get to jump in and help other players or NPCs.

I know this thread is old, but I was just working on my Queensdale map completion and got a giggle out of the “You ran from skritt!” voiced emote. I know some of the conversation loops in the cities can get annoying if you stay in one place for a while, but the amount of voice work in this game astounds me.
