The importance of festival events
We are getting Halloween. This have been said in an interview with Massivly OP. It’s in the end of this article.

Indeed festivals are very important.
And there’s allready several threads about hallowen, wich seems to have a huge impact on GW2 players.
I agree with you that halloween would be great for new players (with ou without HoT) but it would also be good for HoT.
What I mean is, a lot of players (including myself) are looking forward to “rush” HoT, but they also love halloween. So having halloween soon after would give to them a reason “not to rush” HoT because they’ll want to enjoy halloween too. And this way HoT will feel “bigger”. I higly suspect that HoT will be “done” in several days (I was 80%map in 3 days on vanilla at the release :s) and if we “rush” it we will probably feel “empty” quite fast.
I strongly believe it the case with most MMO x-pack tbh, and having a festival close to the release of the x-pack will help to counter that feeling of “that’s it? allready?” that I usualy experiment 3-4 days after the release. It is just a feeling that disapear fast, but that can cause players to leave few days after the release before they realise everything that they missed by rushing it.
Anyway, festivals are good no matter how you think of it, it’s joyfull, it’s fun (usually ^^), seasonnal items are back, more players around, and a side-quest (usually).
My personnal favorite was from GW1, the war between Dwayna and Grenth when come the end of the years. In comparison, the one GW2 isn’t even remotely fun (even though I enjoy it a lot). And I had an insta-love for halloween JP in GW2.

Thankyou I wasn’t aware of that, I still think this would be a great thread for people to post their festival memories on though
<Obligatory lament for SAB>
I can’t wait for Mad King Thorn Day, I just hope the candy corn node will be available again.
My favorite holiday moment was completing the clocktower, such a difficult puzzle, but so fun to complete it.
I remember how to an onlooker, we must have looked like we were going mad ourselves as all norn and charr got naked to reduce the problems for other players due our size and the inability to see the floor because of robes.
it was very much the point that solidified GW2 in my mind as “the game I’d play instead of WoW”, considering that ANet had only had about a month to prepare whilst fixing all the teething issues from launch
I still have my Candy-Powered Matter Meter
…I should probably return it to Councillor Ludo one of these days…
