In light of everyone complaining that fractals and ascended gear is an act of betrayal by Anet I would like to speculate that us being able to get agony resistance now, so early in the game, is because the Mursaat may be a problem sooner than we think.

We are running around trying to stop the immediate threat of the Elder Dragons but GW1 ended with a few wounded but still undefeated foes… I am wondering if access to agony resistance is not foreshadowing other events/dungeons where spectral agony might be used by the Mursaat or maybe even the Inquest. Another thing worth considering is that the Mursaat employed Jade minions…just like what we see in the Solid Ocean Fractal.

I believe it is only a matter of time before we see the Mursaat.

We’ve been speculating on this for months over in the Lore forums, but there really isn’t any hard evidence in game and we haven’t gotten any interaction with the story team since beta =( We’ve asked a few times to do a Lore AMA but there’s been no response

You know those are basically animated jade as in “the Jade Sea” right? The Mursaat’s “jade” constructs were more purplish-black.

The Jade Sea is a result of a gigantic release of energy when Shiro Tagachi(a human) was killed, which also petrified miles and miles of lush forest into a stony jungle.

The Mursaat had/have the power to manipulate this “Jade” like matter into creating sentient guardians for them, but also automatic magic-absorbing defense constructions and fortresses. From what we’ve seen in GW1, the matter they seem to be able to manipulate is very similar in shape and color to the spikes that usually protrude from the Bloodstones, which basically “bleed” magic. Add to that the fact that in the GW universe, the color purple and similar shades of magenta is almost exclusively used to visualize unchanneled, unrefined pure magic, suggests to me that Mursaat are able to create their constructs and fortresses out of thin air by condensing pure magical energy until it forms crystal like shape we’ve seen a lot of in GW1.

They might be revealed within the overall gw2 story eventually..

..or we might see them in a fractal dungeon.

Agony in Fractals is merely a tip of Anet’s collective hat to GW1. Considering the HUGE backlash over Ascended gear, and the still vocal complaints toward the high number of items needed to infuse said gear, Anet would just be digging their own graves by making it more prevalent in PvE… one of only reasons people have come to terms with it is because of the belief that infusions are only/will only be required in Fractals (note: I have no clue if, and am not implying, that this was ever stated by any Anet employee ever). Giving us more stuff in PvE that requires it outside of fractals is only going to kitten off the player base more IMO

If you did what they did, you would have what they have.

Who animates earth elementals in the wild? I figure the “Jade Shards” are the same sort of elementals using the jade-ified sea as material.

And no, the Mursaat aren’t ruled out in general, in fact it’s said they’re still around. But they’re not responsible for the Solid Ocean / Jade Sea fractal
