It’s an especially big problem as I play a thief so when it backfires, it backfires HARD.

I rely on auto-targeting certain times when using my dagger aa but mostly I just use it for my sbow aa. If I could turn it off for every other skill I would in a heartbeat. As it stands, it gets me killed a LOT more times then I’d like to admit.

Situations include trying to hs through a smoke field while invis (to keep invis up), my character jumps on the enemy instead and instantly reveals me.

This one is my favorite. Shadow-returning with sbow out (and currently invis) makes you shoot at a random target, whether you want to or not. This obv insta reveals you as well.

You look at what you want to hit, swing your weapon, something else gets targeted for some reason, your character turns, and you completely miss your target (sometimes with very important abilities like hundred blades or pistol whip).

I use disabling shot when running from a zerg but instead of going away from them and evading at the same time, auto targeting swaps targets to the bunny in front of me, throwing me deeper into the enemy zerg.

I know these are mostly thief-centric but I know for sure other classes have similar experiences so it really should apply to everybody.

tldr~The auto-targeting/attacking function should be more finely tuned so that it can be made effective only on certain skills.

Check out my page for some good thiefisms :)

I understand what you mean. While it’s largely considered a disadvantage, I like to keep mine on so I don’t mess up a feedback or something.

However, when I’m on my Warrior for example, I like to Rush past mobs but end up just rushing into them, so I have to play it totally off on her.

Fine tuning would be nice, but this is more suited to suggestions forum.

Being able to turn off autotargeting for specific abilities would be incredibly welcome. It’s extremely useful to have it off for mobility skills like rush, swoop, and ride the lightning, but having it turned off makes other abilities much more tedious and finicky to use. It’s also pretty silly when I autotarget and attack things when using shouts, like Retreat or Shake It Off.
