One of the elements that really jumps out at me all the time while playing the game is the level of detail and love that went into crafting each aspect. It’s so true that often, the little things which are overlooked or taken for granted add up to really making a game feel alive, immersive, and fun. There are so many of those little things built into Guild Wars 2, whether it be graphics, animations, dialogue, stories, or anything else. Those small, seemingly insignificant elements that make you smile, grab your attention for a moment, or just make you shake your head and think.

What little things have you seen, heard, or experienced that really added to your experience? Give us a couple of the things that make this game special for you.

I’ll start it off with a couple of my own..

The ground cover. I’m amazed at the density, diversity, and beauty of the ground cover in this game. Fields full of wildflowers, marshes with dense undergrowth, or volcanic regions with rivers of lava and harsh, burning ash. Just the variety and beauty of the flowers in the game has stopped me in my tracks to gawk for minutes at a time.

The “useless” dialogue. I love that some NPCs just hum and act bored while on guard duty, or sing goofy songs to themselves as they work. I love the banter, and battle cries, and all the flavor it adds to the world.

In the interest of balance, I’d also like to add a few constructive criticisms, also in the form of “little things”. Just like the little positive elements add up to make a game feel alive, it’s possible that a nice working list of actionable constructive criticism might add up to the game feeling much more complete and comfortable for everyone. Of course there are some big bugs…this isn’t meant as yet another place to ambiguously complain about the game sucking or about advancement-halting bugs. Just a couple little things that you think could be fixed or improved to make the game even better.

For me, I’d say…

First-person view. I know they are working on it, but it can’t come soon enough. The game is stunning and it can be very awkward sometimes not being able to see it through my character’s eyes.

Area Loot on its own key. I don’t think I need to explain this one. We really need area loot, in a way that doesn’t require spamming the F key and hoping we got everything, and ending up in conversations with NPCs in the middle of a fight or event.

So what little things, positive and negative, have affected you in this game?

Little thing: Not being able to preview equipment from marketplace.
Not so little thing: Inability move and resize UI pieces like you could in GW1.

There’s tons more both positive and negative, but I’m too tired to think of anything else now. Little things are after all small things that are easily missed or forgotten and when you spot something like that, you go either oh neat, or oh bummer and then probably forget whole thing in couple hours. At least I do with many things sadly. :/

I love how the grass sways and parts itself as I violently blow poor defenceless creatures into the eternal alchemy.

Oh and the water sprinkler thingies on the farms, I love those. I keep wondering how the water bends.
