Hello folks,

I had this thought some other day that I wanted to share because it bugs me a bit. Amongst all my characters, there’s a druid and a revenant, and I’m using Ventari with it and you can guess where I’m heading now.

  • With druid comes glyphs, and glyphs are point blank area of effect (PBAoE) skills so you’ve got to melee if you want them to serve their purpose.
  • With Ventari comes the tablet, which works in a ranged area of effect (unless you’re fighting next to it of course)
  • With druid comes a staff that’s only got ranged skills.
  • With Ventari comes a staff that’s only got melee skills.

And this is where something feels out of place : in my mind, Druid would be perfect with Rev staff, and Ventari Rev would be much easier and funnier with druid staff. So maybe I’m too much in the “if you do it, do it fully or don’t do” behaviour, maybe I just fail to see the purpose in a backline druid using glyphs when enemies get too close, or a melee ventari keeping the tablet close…

Of course I’m positive there won’t be any switch between those weapons (yet, I still say I’d enjoy it a lot) ! So I’m just wondering here : is there any reason the weapon skills and utility skills of both Druid and Ventari have been designed that way ? (one melee set , one ranged set)

You’re forgetting the Druids main functionality – celestial avatar – changes the way glyphs work to become party support skills, such as how Glyph of Rejuvenation makes healing your party a bigger emphasis than healing yourself. The Druid was built in two parts for both party support as well as providing heal support. moreover, by the time you play druid you always have the option of becoming melee which – if you go full glyph – means you won’t be too much of a burden if you join your melee fighters. Ancestral grace allows you to either zip back to the backlines for healing and support or zips you forward to join your knuckle-dragging, magic-spewing comrades on the front lines.

Revenant on the other hand needed a close-range two handed weapon and since the hammer was flipped upside down for being a long range weapon the staff felt like with ventari using a staff, this made the staff weapon an ideal candidate. (Plus, we already had a lot of professions wielding greatswords including the new Reaper spec, so greatsword was out for now) While Ventari’s tablet was built to be similarly a party support object as well as a summonable object for the class no matter where you stood on the field. (I personally found the tablet better at shielding NPC’s in the open field rather than fellow players – since players tend to move around a lot – but, eh…)

and that’s your two cents for today.

Well to address Rev, Staff is just one of their weapon options, and Ventari is just one of their stances. Its not as if you are required to use Staff with Ventari as a rev, its not even the same as Druid since neither one is part of the herald spec.

Well… Even celestial avatar has 3/5 ranged abilities while glyphs are still melee.

Of course there’re other possibilities, and you’re not bound to “You’re a druid so equip a staff and all glyphs”. Yet, rangers as a whole already have their share of ranged options and revs only have one ranged weapon.

TBH, I usually use hammer with tablet because I rather play backline, yet staff is labeled Ventari’s weapon.

Anyway, that was just my late bewildered thread, so thanks for answering

I have the same mental dissonance with going full Dragonhunter — bow works at range, traps work at your feet. There’s no synergy, no intuitive flow like with Reaper GS/Shouts.

Sure you don’t have to fully equip everything an elite has to offer, but shouldn’t it all work well together if you do?

The non-Celestial Avatar versions of the glyphs are being used in melee (weapon switch), not with the staff equipped.
