What about you guys? What are some things you’ve enjoyed about GW2?
1. Scenaries. Some vistas you just can’t get tired of viewing them.
2. Some minor details of the GW lore all around the maps. Still trying to relate the materials from GW2 back to GW. Personally I believe these background stories need to be emphasized more, instead of pushing out thinly sketched new characters.
3. …quite honestly, I’m out of ideas. Sniping champions in Queensdale, maybe?
I effin love GW2, my only gripe with it comes in content. I love how the game works, but the existing classes keep getting “Rebalances” but nothing added to them. we NEED new weapons, new attacks, new traits…. and more. We also NEED new classes in general. Its been almost two years now…. come on. The actual game though? most of us love it. The main reason people complain so much is that this game has the POTENTIAL to be the best MMO ever. period.

You are aware that adding new weapons and such would require even more rebalancing, right?
It is always better to get them as balanced as possible before adding more variables.

Personally, I’ve met someone really special here, and I wouldn’t have found him without the megaserver update, faulty and buggy and inconvenient as it is. I’m excited about our friendship and our continued adventures in Tyria!
What about you guys? What are some things you’ve enjoyed about GW2?
Congratulations! If that means what I think it means. Congratulations for something anyway if it doesn’t
I enjoy traveling around the game world seeing and doing things. I enjoyed the Living Story and I’m looking forward to Season 2. I enjoy creating characters and watching them grow. This is the first game where I’ve been able to make characters to closely match favourites in stories I’ve liked. I seriously enjoy the art and attention to detail in this game (selectively forgetting clipping…).
There are a few things I don’t enjoy but since that’s not the question I won’t get onto those.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Charr are the best race ever. A shame their theme doesn’t play in-game except at the start, and the Ascalon doesn’t have similarly themed tunes.
The random events are great, as is the ability to jump off the gear treadmill at 80 and just enjoy exotics.

It’s an MMO. You could add 50 classes and would still be in the same spot as we are in now. As balanced as possible in hopes of what? How exactly would we know if we were as balanced as possible?
We have less skills overall when compared to most games let alone Guild Wars that had dual classing and that game was more balanced than this thing is. Even with weekly changes to skills which altered builds/meta it felt more “balanced”. Lol, what does that even mean. Pipe dreams. 10 better games will be released before we get to a place where every build using every weapon set and those games will undoubtedly have more than 8 classes.
At the very least there should be some thought put into sub-classes.
Anyway, to me…each class does pretty much the same things, but have different mechanics. No reason you can’t have 100 classes doing the same thing with different mechanics.
Every other game out there, each class will do very different things…have different buffs/debuffs/CC’s and forms of healing. Here, same stuff, different class. The only standout is maybe poison and confusion in spvp can’t be reliably put out there by every class. Well, then again..Guards could use the doom sigil and maybe a particular rune set to put out poison.
Eh, balanced…hate the word when talking MMO’s. I also want to say that I hope, I hope it’s used when talking about pvp, otherwise…wow. You could literally beat all pve content naked in any weapon set.
No pressure to play. There are no things I “need” or would like to hammer out as soon as possible, nothing that requires my urgent attention or be forever lost.
It’s all I can do to keep myself from exploding with manic glee at the very idea of Legendary armor. Will they be profession-specific? Armor-specific? Compliment the weapons? Come from an additional, updated path in every dungeon (Story Mode 2)? I can wait.
As an observation, the players care a lot more about the game (I mean the actual game, not the gem store game) than the company. It’s hard for people to stay positive the more this becomes apparent.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in every MMO.
Stop failing at PvE, start fixing PvP/WvW. Thank you.
Blind hatred is just as bad as blind love. I’d rather have a critical community than a community that gets slapped and says “Thank you sir, may I have another?”.
Don’t get me wrong, GW2 is a good game. It has a good battle system and interesting areas. I also want it to stay good.
People I’ve met and my guild (not sure it counts as I joined it during GW).
No doubt lordkrall will tell me that I’m wrong.
Blind hatred is just as bad as blind love. I’d rather have a critical community than a community that gets slapped and says “Thank you sir, may I have another?”.
Don’t get me wrong, GW2 is a good game for its technological level so far. It has a mediocre battle system with its only real good dodge mechanic and interesting areas. I also want it to get improved.
Fixed that for you
Lets stay real. As much as I love GW2, the game has its flaws and is in the moment far aways from its best performance and usage of all the potential, that the game has and could make use of.
Its 2014, 2 years after game release and the game still feels like a way too fast released game, that got just pooped out quickly, so that marketing section of NCSoft/Anet could hold their words on releasing the game in 2012 – THE YEEEEAR Of THEEE DRAGON.
And theres still alot of things that got announced to be in the game on release or some time after later and still aren’t in the game until today.
You can clearly see in the game, that the game uses only a reworked and highly optimized game engine of GW1 and that GW2 isn’t a game, that got developed with alot of things in the mind, that other games got developed with from begin on and that are from the same mother company cough Blade & Soul cough that is in some thigns alot more advanced than GW2 is, but got developed at the same time by an other development team of NCSoft….
GW2 clearly needed alot more polishment before they should have been relesed the game. GW2 was a clear premature delivery and alot of the stuff that we got in the 2 years now could have been in the game already from the begin on, if Anet/NCSoft would have given their game release for NA/EU more time and would have released the game together with China just first this year!!
In the end, NA/EU was only the free longterm beta testers for China and therefore we received the game 2 years earlier as a “price” together with the first living story season being exclusive for us.
Now that GW2 is also out in China, its time for Anet to give the game some serious improvements and make it ready to stay competitive on the market for when games like Blade & Soul hit the Western Market this year most likely or next and also other promising games like Everquest Next, Black Desert and ArcheAge comeout, which are all in alot of thigns more technogically advanced, than GW2 providing same as good or better combat systems, looking visually better due to DX11 support, providign general better game peformance through offering 64bit clients and also offerign also good developed trendy game features, like housing, guild halls, mounts, heroic character movements, interactive environments and much better fact paced action rich real time combats on the ground, that make also usage of the Z-axis and aren’t so half baken developed and lousy balanced, like GW2’s underwater combat currently
I love GW2, but i definetely want to see it getting improved, otherwise I fear, that the game will get destroyed in the next years by the upcoming competition on the market, if the rumors of GW2 gettign its first expansion 2015 aren’t true and Anet doesn’t deliver with it then some jaw dropping content, thats so interesting, that it will keep the masses of players interested to stay in GW2 for a long time and don’t gettign bored after just a few days of rushing through the new content.
Don’t get me wrong, GW2 is a good game for its technological level so far. It has a mediocre battle system with its only real good dodge mechanic and interesting areas. I also want it to get improved.

Welp, better than any of the static dongle I’ve seen in MMO’s.
That I can agree too, the Combat System is better than GW1, which oftenly felt like static dongle of some kids playign with plastic toy soldiers with magnets sticking to each other.
However, just look at the Combat System of Games (or Concepts of Games that seem to have been put on ice, like sadly EIN) like Blade & Soul, Black Desert, EIN, or offline Action-RPG’s like Dragons Dogma…
Yeah even Wildstar has certain elements with that GW2’s combat system could get improved and again its a game, that comes from the same mother company NCSoft and was only developed by an other Developer Team, where you start to ask yourself, if they don’t share with each other the same technologies.
Also TERA, an older game than GW2 has mechanics that could have been usede to make GW2’s combat more fluid and easier for targeting enemies.
And most importantly is, all those other game’s combat systems, as fast paced and full of action as they are, none of them get so extremely flashy full of AoE spam, that you basically can’t see anything anymore from all the clutter of skill effects on the screen
Their effects are nice too look at, but still decent enough, that its gets not annoyingly full that you see nothign anymore, than just skil spam of effects to the point, that the gameclient crashes from it.
If GW2’s Combat system would look so swift and elegant as like of B&S, so good looking and detailed as like of Black Desert and so full of Detail, like a mixture of all of them, GW2’s combat system would be perfect.
To me, all those combat systems of these games feel like fragments of a puzzle, that you just need to combine to get the full picture and thats sadly something, that no game develoepr yet has done
People on forums like to be negative and complain, it is the nature of man to assume they know more than the next person, even if they no nothing about the topic.
What about you guys? What are some things you’ve enjoyed about GW2?
Asura. They’re totally epic. Probably my favourite fantasy race ever.
I LOVE this game…and contrary to popular opinion I like Living Story(especially the ending of the Scarlet arc). I like that stuff isn’t permanent. The marionette was my favourite boss event yet. Now it’s gone and anybody that missed it, because they quit or weren’t into the game, have missed out. Period. Yay for me!
Not to get negative but my only problem with the game is the emergence of the “elitist” gamer. i.e. not helping your fellows and noob hating/kicking etc.
PVP has become a nightmare.
Games are meant to be fun….right?
I like the following about this game:
-The Housing and Guild Halls
-Cantha
-The permanent content that I can solo
-The new classes, and races introduced
-More of the Living World content I politely said “no” to
-The rewards of blue and greens
-The RNG
-The latest content between April and May
-The Mega server’s speed and allows me to battle bosses right away after DC
-The feedback from ANet addressing the above, I mean they are so open
All that stuff I love about this game.
(edited by Soulstar.7812)
Games are meant to be fun….right?
Meant to be, yes.
It’s hard to find fun when new content is deleted from the game shortly, and the other new things are only in the gem store aka shopping centre aka boring aka not rewarding aka not earned aka is GW2 a game or a shopping centre?
PvP modes are the “endgame” in every MMO.
Stop failing at PvE, start fixing PvP/WvW. Thank you.
@TO: I know this isn’t what you asked but I would love this game a ton more if A-Net wasn’t continously destroying the stuff I love in their game.
I loved that you had pretty easily achievable gear and that everyone was on par – A-Net brought Ascended
I loved the look of my Asura -A-Net somehow changed the graphic and now she looks weired
I loved Lions Arch (literaly everything) – A-Net destroyed it
I loved my Server-Community – A-Net brought the Megaserver.
I guess I’m becoming a bit paranoid but I kinda started to fear to like something in this game because the next moment it can be gone anyways.
Edit: I don’t want to be overly negative, I still like the game but those changes are becoming slightly annoying.

People were complaining the world wasn’t living. Meaning it doesn’t change and stays static. So, A.Net tried a Living Story Scenario -it was 50/50 hit or miss but they tried.
Now people are complaining that the LS was temporary – that was the point.
I give them Kudos for trying something totally out of the box.
Now it’s gone and anybody that missed it, because they quit or weren’t into the game, have missed out. Period. Yay for me!

This is my issue as well. April 15th destroyed so much I loved about the game, such as fun and rewarding leveling (kitten you, 60 dead levels, and atrocious trait pacing), fluid and dynamic events I could play at any time (What the hell were you thinking with the boss schedule?!),
I don’t give a skritt’s kitten about the lack of ‘new content’ or anything else people are whining for. I’ve only paid once for this game, aside from the content I buy from the gem store – I want the content I had to actually be there when I return to it (Living story aside. What they do with that is their own business.), and the core experience to remain fun.
I’ve lost the thrill of leveling alts. I’ve lost the thrill of roleplaying on a non-infested Tarnished Coast. I’ve lost the thrill of trying new outfits and mix+matching Town Clothes. I’m glad I’ve not been paying attention to balance changes, either, given the nerfs that have been going around.
…Oh yeah. I’ve lost the ease of playing for the sake of having fun with gearing and gold income taking care of themselves, thanks to the numerous nerfs on meaningful loot drop rates.

2 years would usually be enough for the “as balanced as possible before adding more variables” state of the game, don’t you think?

Pie in the sky sure tastes great, doesn’kitten The chances of attaining perfect balance in any MMO is virtually nil. And those chances are even smaller for Guild Wars 2, considering how little priority the developers have placed on balance.
The thing you have to realize about the negativity is that it’s a community thing, and not at all related to the game. As an example, see every other MMO ever. Yeah, some of those are legitimately bad games, but there’s a ton of great ones too, and ALL of them have this extremely vocal, extremely negative/toxic group that owns the forums about them.
You can’t let that mindset infect you if you want to be anything other than perpetually miserable.
Priorities, what to do?

So true. This game is about as balanced as one can get. Not every profession will OP others, depending on the situation. That is the key.
Every game forum I have been on, it was the whiners and negative posters that were the majority of the forum. The people who are positive and enjoying the game, stay away.
GW1 was really imbalanced and that was due to the dual professions. It was hard to balance well.
Ppl only post if they feel strongly about one way or another and ppl who like the game tend to play the game more then to use these forums. Negativity is how forums works and its about the only use your going to get out of forums for a game at least in the Discussion part.
It should be renamed “Vent forums with no real discussion” as in if you try to have a discussion your posting on the wrong forum pages. That the way of things no one wants a real discussion they just want to here there own ideals from other ppl and condemnation of other ideals that they do not hold. Look at places like MMORPG its the best place to go to if you want to see something negativity about any game that is out it could be the best game ever but if you go there you will find something bad about it.

I wrote nothing at all about perfect balance, since I am fully aware that such thing doesn’t exist.
What I did write was as balanced as possible, which is better than what it currently is.

All classes are balanced atm just not all there builds are and in truth there always going to be a build that bad for a class look at games like ff11 you can sub job any class in the game with any main but most of them where pointless combos. Endless chose tends to be more on the lines of most of them are bad.

Just a reminder, guys—we have a lot of other threads for criticism of the game. Lots and lots of them, and I’ve posted my own requests and thoughts. If you don’t mind, let’s keep this one for sharing positive experiences. Thanks!!

How is that positive in any way?
It rewards people that play the game regularly.
However, it punishes anyone who takes breaks/travels/has a life/just bought the game. That’s pretty idiotic for an MMO capturing a very casual feel. You don’t get customers by saying “here’s what you don’t get”.

For example, The QD train keeps high-level players accessible to low-level rookies, and keeps the zone feeling alive. And, with how often the train gets disrupted (Frequently enough to leave the people free to hunt other events, not so frequently as to destroy the train entirely and drive away the players), it alerts players to possible events as well.
Personally, I’ve found that GW2 has less of a problem with elitism than any other MMO I’ve tried. Not that elitism isn’t there, of course, but you can never completely get rid of these problems.

What would be there for elitist behaviour?
Ascended items just show that you are very good in mindless farmin which does not even require skill.
The dungeons are old and stale, and running old and stale content faster than others is just not very impressive.
Fractals just proof that you are willing to run the same mini instances a hundred times, which is like being a hamster in a wheel. And they are old and stale too.
The good thing about this game is that it is so casual friendly, that noone has to worry about not being skillful enough to succeed.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The dungeons aren’t old and stale for me! I’ve only run Ascalonian Catacombs!
On the topic of casual versus hardcore gaming. . .
First of all, the elitism around hardcore gaming is really getting a bit outdated and is certainly out of place in a game like GW2, where the entire point of the game is unity, cooperation, and acceptance. The personal story, the design of the MMO aspects of the game—everything points to being decent to one another. Why can’t this extend to casual/hardcore gaming debate?
Secondly, even were the hardcore and casual labels legitimate, they wouldn’t account for people whose situations don’t allow for hours and hours on end of gaming, regardless of how much they want to play. Some people need to work to survive. That’s just the way it is, and they shouldn’t be punished for it. GW2 doesn’t belong exclusively to hardcore gamers, and really shouldn’t.
That said, again, this thread is for the purpose of sharing positive experiences. Please keep off-topic comments to the abundance of other threads in this forum that are meant for critique of the game. Thanks!

This thread derailed quickly and hard.
Ok, my two cents:
I really like the way the devs interact with their players through these forums. Sure, sometimes their response is few and far between, but when Colin or Angel (and the rest of the lovely ANet team) add their voices and speak directly to us, it makes me happy to know they haven’t forgotten their fans.
In a way, it makes me feel like Arenanet is run by a bunch of D&D loving friends (that old school table-top game session), and it makes me feel they’re mine too. Which is also why I want them to succeed.

Except they mostly respond to fluff threads that have nothing to do with the game or improving it.
And when they do post in a serious thread, usually their post contains no information, or anything of value, its generally a fluff post.
Long periods of silence, combined with ignoring bugs and community suggestions (all of which are a year old or more), combined with mainly posting fluff, leads to the rampant ‘toxicity’ in the forum users/player base.
Especially when the gem store keeps chugging along with new item after new item, and we sit here wondering when bugs A to Z are going to get some kind of a response in their thread or even fixed. Or when WvW will have a dedicated team of developers assigned to it. None of this is an exaggeration.

Anet’s made a game that, fundamentally, we love and want to keep playing?
Yea, GW1 is awesome, even in the shabby state it unfortunately found itself in now.
The thing you have to realize about the negativity is that it’s a community thing, and not at all related to the game. As an example, see every other MMO ever. GW1 was really imbalanced and that was due to the dual professions. It was hard to balance well.
It had its issues, yet it still delivered an experience that outclassed by far anything else in its genre, and GW2 can only dream of doing the same. However, the latter is still pretty gud for cazuals and low-standard WoW refugees, and there seems to be a ton of those around, so yea.
But hey, what I DO LOVE about this game is the way it’s digging its own grave.
(edited by KarlaGrey.5903)
I love this game, that is why I criticise.
I love how it looks, how the combat plays out, the community is (despite some of my grumps) still positive on the whole.
There are parts which I can, and do, pick holes in but generally I would rather idle in this game than play almost any other.
Some of the things about GW2 that are nice might be over looked by those that are always in a rush, running from champ to champ, waiting for the next world boss, grinding those dungeons etc. There are so many places in this game to go that don’t involve obtaining gear.
There are some really fun areas with jumping puzzles. There’s plenty of amusing NPC dialog where you normally wouldn’t notice if you didn’t walk off the path and slow down enough to listen. GW2 offers a variety of routes to obtain gear where as many other MMOs are more about raids and instanced content to obtain end game gear also much of it is restricted to daily or weekly. GW2 offers more freedom to progress as a pace someone wants to.
Every game has its share of negative aspects but GW2 has far more positives than negatives if people would slow down long enough to see it and it’s not just jumping puzzles as I mentioned. There’s a lot to do in this game.
17 months of play from gw2 (approximately). To my thinking 17 months of play from any game is a good investment.
My addiction stage has come to an end; at least for the time being.
Only real negative for me is the imbalance of the matches in world vs world the majority of the time.
I think they’ve gotten the semi-realistic, timeless aesthetic down. Any game shows its age, but the artists have done a really good job here. That being said, I love exploring, jumping off of cliffs, and taking it easy. I hope they’ll expand the continent and expand to other continents, as exploration is very fulfilling, for me, in the game.
