The movement & strafing!
Open your Options tab and set the Camera Rotation Speed slider all the way to the right.
What race are you playing? A huge norn feels really slow and lethargic compared to an asura since they both need to move at the same speed and their sizes are so different.

Just out of curiosity I tried that, having had mine set at the default, and whoa! Holy headspin Batman!
I moved it to the middle. Default seemed to be on the far left.
To the OP, I have had some trouble with the camera angels too, but after some time you get used to it. I logged into another game yesterday because I’m trying to shut down my guild, and I kept pressing “F” to try and get things to work :p
Each time you enter combat movement speed is reduced. I’ll never understand why this game has this mechanic. It’s horrible. Whenever my Norn enters combat, is like watching a giant 500kg bag of potatos move around the map. If you have no speed blessings, of course …

hahahaha ya the game could use a little bit of speed. The reason behind the speed increase/decrease is that so you can move quickly from place to place while not in combat, but imo combat speed should be the non combat speed and non combat speed maybe a little bit faster.
Even with the rotation speed higher it still feels clunky. When im moving from side to side using ’’A’’ and ’’S’’ or ’’E’’ and ’’Q’’ it feels like it’s slower then walking forward.
Watch this video from 11:00 to the end and you will know what i’m talking about, i had the exact same reaction at the start.

It’s because you do move slower when side strafing. You want to go forward while strafing to keep you forward run speed. The combat speed reduction is simply ridiculous though, it feels like ANet is simply trolling you. So disgusting.
I want to hear what Anet has to say about this. Because this is something that affects the combat and PvP alot.

I bet you come from WoW where strafing and forward speeds were the same, well here strafing is A LOT slower, it is almost as slow as moving backwards, i wish they made strafing speed a little bit faster.
I never use the A, E keys to turn. That what holding the Rmouse button down is for. Don’t really like that tho. Seems painful how slow you turn using just keys.

Heh, I’m a speedy Thief and have mine on max. I spin my camera all over the place when I play. :P
‘specially when I’m using death blossom.
Guess I’d have to move it less if they did fix the side strife.
Just wanted to add another note to the discussion: if you have any sort of movement speed boosting effect (swiftness, certain signets, etc), this will only affect your forward movement – not backward movement or strafing.
To know why the combat speed is reduced, all you have to do is a little deductive reasoning. By moving slower in combat, you have a harder time running if you need to get away = a greater chance of dying = more money for repairing = less money on your character = ????

This is something i don’t understand… Why did Anet even consider this in their game? IMO strafing should be as the same speed as moving forward and all the speed boosts should affect strafing also.

Well it works exactly like the vast majority of games out there, maybe all of them except MMORPGs. I don’t know any other RPGs or FPS games or even any third person action game that strafing has the same speed as walking forward, I never had a problem with it.
In the original Guild Wars high level players would speed run low levels through high levels zones to areas where they could buy the better armour (as I’m sure it wasn’t level restricted). This may influence GW2 but as it is so different in game mechanics I don’t know why.
them due to those less than polite individuals out there and their offensive attitude.

Not only that, the whole concept of being able to face and shoot sideways while being just as fast as somebody who only concentrates of running forward is silly. Dunno how people get such ideas.
I do remember what is was like when strafing was just as fast as running forward, this was something that was still in their early demos on conventions. One could circlestrafe around each and everything that was not a ranged attacker. It did not matter how many foes there were, they’d never catch up to you and you could whittle down even the most ridiculous amounts of enemies if given the time. It was just like everything was Risen Brutes – you can happily run around them, shoot them down with ranged weapons and they will never ever be able to touch you.
I fully support reduced strafing speed.
Another thing which can help improve the “lethargy” in movement, or more accurately the lag time between you pressing the key and your character doing something is lower the screen resolution to reduce the cpu load, and set graphic options to best performance.

I hate this mechanic with a passion. I wish they would just take it out of the game.
WHAT?! The movement is so slick, you can do complicated jumping puzzles at a full run, so responsive.
You move slower in combat because out of combat is like mounted/travel speed. If you want to move the same speed in combat, use swiftness
I also love how only running forward is the fastest, it means you have to be more tactical with your movement, not just circle strafe like some vehicle with a turret.

With movment being such a facter in combat it stands to reason that doing this would brake the game
