Every name I want that I type in either says “Name is already taken” or “New character limit exceeded”.

Help?

Be more creative in naming? Don’t use names from other genres (against TOS anyways)

It can be hard finding a good name if you really want a particular name, but names are unique across all servers so you need to step out of the box sometimes

Whats the name you’re aiming for?

I remember the beta, where I wanted to wake up early to take “Menzies” as my name. But when I woke up I thought: “meh, never mind”. And went back to sleep.

The next day I had to make up a new name, and some of them turned out cooler than Menzies itself.

" New character limit exceeded"

Sounds like you don’t have a free character slot.

Use a first and last name instead of a single name. The chances that a combination is used is far smaller then a single name.

Yeah, if you try the “cool” names, big chances that they are all taken, you won’t be able to make a “Legolas”, “Dark Knight”, “Wild Hunter” and so on.

Try to actually name your toon as it was a human, or norn and so on.

Among my 9 toons only 1 had that problem but I knew I would have, on my asura engineer I tried to make a reference to the GW1 asura Oola, and it was taken (of course) then I tried Oolah, also taken, then Ooga and finally Oogah.

Óola is probably not taken. Neither should be Oóla. That’s how I got the name I wanted.

I hate that some signs can be used and others can’t, things like Oóla is ok, names with " ä " is also ok but " ã " and " ç " aren’t.
I would to like to use ã and ç in some of my pets but I can’t, like in “Dragão” and “Caçador”.

Yeah, use 2 names lower the chances of have it taken, but far from guaranteed, GW1 you were required to have at least 2 word names and GW1 names was reserved to GW2 so plenty of “cool” names was taken.

Take a phrase you like to name your character after. I liked Greater Flame for my Guardian, so I put it into google translate and tell it to use Latin. Ignis means flame, and Valder means very/powerful/great depending on where you translate it, so I ended up using Valderignis. I followed the “Valder” pattern on my later characters so I ended up with Valder Dolor (Very Smart, for my Asuran mesmer. Also reads as department, sorrow, and pain.), Valder Laminas (Lamina meaning Blade, so great Blade.) Valdermalgus (I think it means very evil, but I’m not 100% sure unfortunately. I made him over a year ago and haven’t touched him since).

" New character limit exceeded"

Sounds like you don’t have a free character slot.

How many characters do you have? If you have 128, I believe, that is the character limit.

If you don’t have that many, and are getting that error, you might try a -repair of the client, and if that does not help, contact CS for assistance.

You can find instructions for both here: https://help.guildwars2.com/home

Good luck.

From what I’ve read, “New character limit exceeded” means that you’ve created (or maybe attemped to create) too many new characters in a short period of time, if you wait a few minutes you should be able to create it.

As for names, well, just be a little more creative. If you want to stay within lore to create names, for example, if you want to create an Asura names Vyxxi but the name is already taken, you can always create (to give some examples), Vyxxí, Vyxxi of Dynamics College, Genius Vyxxi, Vyxxi the Golemancer, Vyxxi of the adventurer’s krewe, Genius Assitant Vyxxi, and so on.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

That’s the danger of using translate.google. Even if they give you the correct word, it probably won’t be in the right form.

Valder I can’t find through google… considering “very” is a common word, I have a feeling valder is a bad entry. The word you want is “Major”, but I do like Valderignis, so let’s proceed assuming valder is an adjective meaning greater. Which means we can’t use it on other adjectives, btw.

Valder Ignis is correct.

Valder Laminas should be Valdae Laminae. I assume you mean Greater Blades.

Valder Dolor would mean ‘greater sadness’ or ‘greater pain’. The ‘smart’ they have listed in translate.google is more ‘That smarts!’, as in, That hurts!. The proper phrase is Valde (no r) Trebax, or Valde plus any adjective meaning clever.

Valdermalgus…. I think you want Valde Malus (very evil)

@Sariel V Yeah, google translate isn’t the best, but it gives me cool looking names and that’s enough for me. No one ever takes ’em either since they are all mistranslated lol.
