I love how Anet has stated they don’t want to implement anything that will short of involve grinding… but how are we able to to obtain all the armor sets including the luminescent ones.

We have to grind for bandit crest but we receive poor amounts of em. we are looking at around 10,000 + crest (don’t forget the modrem parts that you may not get because of RNG)

The output of completing an event is poor.
1 – Escorting a Dolyaks will held 3 – 5 crest
2 – defending foots will get you 15 crest
3 – opening bandit chest will get you 2 – 25 crest (25 being very rare now)

Unlike Drytop where you would get enough geodes in the hour you are there for the things you want, the rewards for silverwaste requires a lot more time.

Please address this issue. Make it how it was in opening living story where we can get the armor piece by completing it on alternative characters.

Grind for leveling and the feel that you are insignificant to the party because you don’t have tehMaX0rz equipment is what they were getting at.

These words are so constantly twisted.

I thought the last LS increased the Crest rewards? Only took a few evenings to get the armor bits and an addition 3k sitting in the bank.

Gawd forbid they put desirable rewards in the game to encourage people to keep playing.

Just goes to show that, in a world where people are complaining that current content “only takes 45 minutes to complete”, you will have people who complain that it “takes too long to get rewards”.

These forums are just f***ing ridiculous anymore.

I did the story on 2 characters and manage to get 2 leggings. So looks like you only need to grind the boots.

That is assuming you have 3 level 80 though. If you don’t, looks like you need to grind some crest.

- How about this:

  • Anet decides to focus on creating a great game that is rewarding to play for it’s own sake, instead of creating a game where people play for rewards.
  • Gem store items are reasonably priced and interesting instead of limited and based on gambling.
  • Bugs are fixed in timely manner and good documentation in given to players.

It’s not that difficult, really.

GW2 is ALL grind. The only way to get good stuff is through crafting, how do you get crafting materials? You have to grind. Legendarys? Grind. Ascended? Probably more grinding then legendary’s IMO.

It’s almost entirely cosmetic grind though, since ascended doesn’t boost you very much. So to actually play the game at “high lvl” there isn’t really much grind, since there is no gear treadmill. It’s all optinional grind.

Don’t do it?

After S1LS I decided that this content through the LS is not worth my time, I do the personal story part, and I don’t touch what they call “content” that follows. The less people play this content and the data will eventually let management know this is not the direction the community envisioned or wants for GW2.

It’s just armor, Anet will pump many more out through GW2 lifecycle.

You want change? don’t participate in the content that follows the personal part of the story, and don’t support the gem store with real money..speak to NCsoft wallet not Anet.

There is no themepark MMO without grind. GW2, on the other hand, gives you the choice between grinding for cosmetics or enjoying other parts of the game. For me, like for many others, GW2 is a casual MMO that I enjoy playing with friends. I login when I want, enjoy some duengons, some WvW, experience the new Living world chapter and then go back to my real life. This is the MMO that LETS me do that.

People who wanna play hardcore have the option to grind to rather look cooler which is more of a prestigious thing rather than the ‘’I grind, I get more items, I better not see you again’’ that you can find in other MMOs.

We have a bunch of MMOs already focusing on the gear treadmill and powerhousing. For me, GW2 is good the way it is. Apparently there are downsides but since there is no perfect game, there is nothing to complain about.

As other people have said they never said there would be no grind at all in the game, they said it wouldn’t be required to experience content.

Depending on your definition of grind you might need to grind to get the best stats and/or some skins. But you don’t need to have that equipment (and therefore don’t need to grind) in order to play any part of the game.

Someone with a brand new level 80 still wearing a mix of sub-80 blues and greens with different stat combinations can go straight to Silverwastes and play the latest content. They could go in naked if they wanted to, or even go there before reaching level 80.

More importantly though a level 80 character in sub-80 blues and greens could also complete that content. It won’t be as easy as if they were in full exotics or ascended, but it also won’t be impossible for most players.

I haven’t played other MMOs since UO years ago (and that was a very different game) but I can think of single-player games where if you went into a zone designed for max-level characters who have completed all the other content in anything but the best equipment in the game you would be one-shot killed by everything, and from what I’ve heard most MMOs go down that route too.

That’s the difference with GW2. You might have to grind for the stats and skins you want, but only if you want them. You don’t have to grind for a specific set because it’s your only option to complete content, or so that you can access the dungeon that lets you grind for the set you actually want. There is grind, but it’s optional.

I did the story on 2 characters and manage to get 2 leggings. So looks like you only need to grind the boots.

That is assuming you have 3 level 80 though. If you don’t, looks like you need to grind some crest.

If you don’t have characters using all 3 armor weights you can’t use all 3 sets anyway.

If that’s how bland they want the game to be, that’s fine then, wont be on my shoulders when the game gets passed over soon as another comparable MMO comes out. But if there is one thing we have all learned its that RNG plays a huge factor in keeping people coming back to play. Part of the reason WoW has had such success for as long as it has been around. GW2 can only pray to be around for as long as WoW has been around.

Did anyone else see the OP and think this:

Drytop farm

Timed events
Make farmers squeal with glee-e-e-e
Killing Skritt and Inquest
Clearing Mordrem from ley-lines
Alleviating tedium
Is the answer to a never ending gri-i-ind
(Aah, aah, aah)

Silverwastes
Bandit chests abou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ound
Protect the forts

Make the labyrinth a treat
But filling them with bandit crests

Sneak into the center
Find a Greater Nightmare Pod
Filling it with tons of bandit crests

In Season 1, the skins associated with the Living Story were fairly easy to get. It was usually the back skin of the week and getting one involved collecting and crafting, or in some cases, iirc, getting a meta achievement. So what happened? Posters complained the content was not permanent.

At one time, the hype on GW2 was that people would be doing content because it was fun. That was true, for some people, and true up to a point for some others. There have been a lot of posts about rewards in GW2. The gist of these posts is that some players will not repeat content without “worthwhile” rewards.

In Season 2, the content is available permanently. However, a subset of the player base has already established that they won’t repeat content just for fun, but they will for reward. So, there are rewards associated with the content, because players asked for them.

There seems to be little point to designing L80 content without rewards. A lot of players will shun the content if the rewards aren’t there. Making those rewards take time makes sense from a design standpoint. Some demographics want long term goals and long-term goals extend the life of the content.

Then you have the demographic that wants the reward but not as a long term goal. What do they do? They try to shame the developer into giving them what they want faster by complaining about grind. Then, if the developer caves, they get that reward and complain about nothing to do.

I think that about sums it up.

Two different complaints entirely. The LS story part takes less then 45 min and is very short. Thats one complaint people have. The other complaint is the 2k crests with the reduced rewards that requires repetitive farming of silverwastes to get in order to complete the armor that is currently out.

I have nothing against the living story aspect of the game. And unlike majority of you who dont care, for me the End game is raking up Achievement Points. I have to spent countless of hours to obtain these kind of Ap when it shouldn’t be. I could be playing other parts of the game where other content was developed

I see what you did there joking that other content was developed

The Dry Top I know gives ~260 geodes in an hour, which is well short of an ambrite weapon recipe. (340 geodes at T6.)

Yes too much grind.
Repeating 6 times the same things to get the the 6 parts of the luminescent armor, that’s just boring, so I’ll just give up, it’s a loss of time.
