I never thought that the playtesting of potential players on the other side of the world would affect my enjoyment of my favorite game in such a big way. I still have 4 characters/classes that I have not leveled to 80 yet, and now I have almost zero desire to do so, because it has been made so much harder but more importantly so BORING.

Here are my questions for ArenaNet, that I fear will never be answered.

1) If playtesting in a certain part of the world that is new to MMOs revealed such major differences in what they want, why couldn’t a simpler version of the game (i.e. “Guild Wars Basic”) be created to satisfy that crowd?

2) If the game was going to be changed in such a major way for “veteran” players who still wanted to level “alts”, why are we not allowed to begin those alts around level 40 instead?

3) I’m assuming that the “thousands” of new playtesters who requested this type of game were playing the game FOR FREE? If so, how do you know that those people will actually pay to purchase the game?

4) If the changes you implement cause hundreds of thousands of new players then GREAT. At that point I will concede that it was successful. Will this mean then, that with all the revenues from those new game sales, that we can expect a full expansion with a lot of new content in the next few months?

5) If instead your marketing plan backfires (and I hope that it doesn’t – seriously), and you see that you are NOT getting the new purchases you anticipated, AND you are losing veteran players, how long will it take for you to change the game back to the way it was?

Thanks for listening, and for giving us these forums to express our concerns.

I’ve been playing this game on and off since I pre-ordered this game. I’ve got 3 lvl 80s and I love levling alts. But this time I came back to the game and I absolutely hate it. The trait changes were horrendous and now these new changes of gating skills behind levels are worse. The game, not only feels clunky and dumb, it feels boring now.

I’m actually done with this game, and I know no one should care about that. But the same feeling is spread across all my friends who play this game.

Anyway, good job Anet on ruining a perfectly good game.

Yeah, I just started a brand new character to test it…bleah. I would be furious if that’s the game I’d gotten out of the box, I can tell you. I mean, I’ve had the game for 2 years, I’ve gotten the $180 plus dozens of gem cards the family has purchased worth out of the game. I don’t resent or begrudge them the money I’ve spent. I had fun.

Now…I’m certainly not going to level an alt in a system where I don’t get weapon skills or story or anything unless it’s spoon fed to me in teeny little bites. Yuck.

I would love some recommendations from folks on other games to consider, because my kid has totally lost interest, and my guildies are going back to WoW, and frankly, this new Play Like You’re Chinese game isn’t what I want to play.

The recent changes are definitely a bummer. I booted the game up after a long absence, started leveling alts and the lack of trait points really makes things dull.

Also not liking the fact that you have to spend what before was 3 transmutation charges while leveling to 80 for 1 piece.. yeah I’m not gonna spend that on gear you’ll quickly replace, they’re basically all level 80 crystals now.
