I don’t even know where to start with this…

I was okay with the conversion from the large scale point distribution conversion to the smaller scale version over all. I mean, does anybody honestly need those in-between 11-14 points in any given trait line? I was even okay with the new yellow rare traits having to be unlocked via bosses and specific ingame events/actions. As this to me is reminiscent of elite skill unlocks in GW1 where you had to track down and capture elites via specific bosses ingame. Not entirely certain if that’s how it was intended, but that’s how I felt. Which I honestly thought was a nice nod to the original game.

But the basic blue and green traits too?… Really?

I finally got my brand new elementalist to level 80. Having built her specifically for WvW, only to find that I now need to unlock EVERY SINGLE trait on her to even create a build. Thats’ thirteen traits, elementalist having one set of such for each of the five elements that he/she can wield. That’s SIXTY-FIVE traits in total that I need to unlock before she’s fully complete! Are you even serious with this? I want to physically cry every time I look at my trait screen now. Full of empty trait slots, that as far as I care at this point, may never be filled. I made her for WvW, and I’m not going to be force-fed PvE and travel the expanses all over Tyria fulfilling all of the requirements (some of which amount to full region map completion) to unlock each skill. That’s insane, this to me is way over the line into being completely asinine.

This. I don’t really understand, it’s just a couple gold to buy a trait. Just buy the ones you want, is that so freaking hard?

Actually Inculp not everyone has the lucky accounts or the same access to the loot. If you’ve bought this game because you want to play your way and stay only in the open world, than your are basically sol at this point because the cost continues to increase on both crafted gear and essential runes/sigils, the nerfs to the open world continue where nowhere else in the game are there loot nerfs, and once again DR is showing signs of having not only an Unidentifiable Object loot bug but also a bug where chests for events don’t appear when they are completed.

So really what option is there for new players who want to play their way?

Please we’re listening. And you realize that the talk about this game’s lack of rewards as the central issue is building all over the internet right now right? Like this isn’t the first time people have noticed this. How bad does it have to get before people who’ve been classic deniers begin to realize “Hey, there’s something not right here, maybe we should ask about it?” Like really, do sigils have to reach 20 gold each? 30? how much is too much?

I don’t understand it really. They change traits to make it now required to either be in a zone higher than your level in order to open traits/columns or grind gold which really does take a long time for new players, or buy it directly through gem conversion. How can it be that difficult for anyone with an objective mind to see? It’s not possible for some, some people don’t spend 10-12 hours on a game all day everyday to get what they need especially not for alts.

I don’t see how this is supposed to help.

Also, it cost skill points as well. Which a brand new level 80 has none to spare. So, I’m relegated to either hunting skill points and spending coin that I shouldn’t have to, or traipsing all over Tyria anyway doing events/bosses. Neither of which I wanted because as stated it’s less time spent in WvW, as I despise PvE anyway.

This was a huge mistake…

I just started leveling a character and yeah, the first blue traits some of the things you have to do as a level 20 to unlock them are not even possible at that level. I wish I made this character before the patch. I doubt I will make another one. I also found the new traits on my 80 fun to unlock, but leveling with this system kinda sucks.

That’s just it. There is no “play your way” anymore.

You stated in your OP that you were happy with obtaining some of the Traits by adventuring in the open world. I merely suggested you purchase those you did not want to ‘traipse all over’ for. Just as the Devs suggested in the Blog announcing the new Trait system.

If you feel that isn’t your cup of tea, my only other advice would be to wait until Trait acquisition is changed again, whenever….or if….it changes to something you are happier with.

I was okay with it, when it was just the rares. As stated I thought of it as a homage to the original game. I had no idea they were testing the waters to go full metal jacket with this!

I equate this to when your newborn child makes an adorable little burp after a feeding when it was just the rares versus full-on Exorcist style pea soup fountain spewing the way it stands now…

I made a Necromancer from scratch after the update, just to experience the game this new way, and it wasn’t hard to get to 80 without even using a scroll (though I did crafting, because my deleted character had those disciplines)-also collecting traits has been for so far save for the WvW ones and any requiring JPs. Basically they “require” that you play many aspects of the game, but these won’t, necessarily be a chore for 100% of players, and of course you can buy what you need right away if you so wish (though I myself am doing it the slow way, for fun.)

actual feedback thread… well they’ll merge this one anyway.

The majority of people think the trait hunting is terribly implemented and anet needs to rework it.
(I hope they do..but I don’t really care..my chars were all created before patch..and well..I won’t be creating any more.)

Actually this highlights another of the problems. Even if you do buy, or hunt, the ones you want, that’s your build locked in until you buy more. New players can’t experiment with builds, they have to either guess at what traits they want, use ones they stumble across randomly (which are rare), or look up a meta-build.

That’s even assuming new players have the gold and skill points in the first place.

Old players might want to experiment even more. They want to try out multiple builds for different purposes (WvW, Fracs, Dungeons etc.).

If one decides to ‘instantly’ unlock the traits , the problem isn’t the gold. Hell my 9 year old nephew can farm the 45g in a single day. The problem is the absolute ridiculous cost in skill points (360 per character).

It’s both hilarious and a slap in the face to players that Anet actually was proud to offer this as an alternative that didn’t ‘force’ us to do it through the events, etc. way

What if HoT turns out to be the Mordrem Invasion event, x100?

If they made skillpints acc.bound, it’d be ok for alts.

New players should explore more, as you learn alot from exploring, and we’re alsways reminding new people in our guild, to take their time, enjoy the leveling process. endgame starts at level2,. So traits encouraging that…is great I think… though they need to be less on “100%” map completion and more doing “x dynamic event or y event” …maybe even “do 5 dynamic events in mount malestrom” or “5 hearts”..rather than full map…cause that just sucks.
