ANet looks at numbers — they’re a business after all, and there’s nothing wrong with that. What happens on forums is useful, but they won’t make big decisions off of forum rants, and probably shouldn’t. They base their product on what happens in-game, on hard numbers of players doing certain activities.

So the only way to be heard is by how you play the game. Ranting on the forums may be therapeutic, but it’s not very effective. If the vast majority of players avoid certain content, ANet will notice.

I am not playing Tequatl (I did 20-30 runs early, dropped it once it became a ghost-town, got some decent loot), the new wurm (not fun), or the marionette (too frustrating for my limited playing time). I dislike those three encounters as they are, ankitten ot playing them.

On the other hand, there are lots of activities I do enjoy, so I play those. I’d love it if ANet instanced these world bosses; what they have now is not a “living” world, but an annoying one that wrecks zones (aka Tequatl) and requires coordination among random people on overflows. Yuck.

But I make my preferences known in-game by how and what I play. If enough people quit doing content they dislike ANet will likely listen.

people quitting doing content they dislike is something they should do for themselves, not because it “sends a message”.

I believe “sending a message” is doing something for yourself. They are not mutually exclusive things.

What I meant was: if you dislike content, that’s reason enough to stop doing it.

So, if we do like the content, we should do it. I really enjoy the Marionette, and do it whenever I am on and it is available.

Keep up the good work, ArenaNet! =)

I really enjoy the Marionette too and I agree, if people don’t like it, they shouldn’t be doing it. But I think enough people do like it where it won’t matter if people don’t do it. I think the same about Tequatl.

Lots of people don’t do it, but entire guilds, HUGE guilds have been set up to do it…and it’s done several times a day. Enough people do it to not only keep it in the game, but to add more content like that.

I think that’s telling.

+1 to Inculpatus and Vayne. I too like the Marionette. I wasn’t agreeing with the OP on the content, just the fact that sending a message is something you do for yourself. And if that is the way he intends to send a message because he doesn’t like the content, then I think that is great.

The point that this is even being brought up means there is currently a large problem with this game.

I don’t understand this comment. Stuff is brought up all the time. This is one person’s opinion who doesn’t like something and he’s suggesting that if people don’t like it they shouldn’t do it. He could have said the same about green dye. If you don’t like green dye and don’t want more green dye, don’t buy green dye. If no one bought the green dye and no one used it, Anet would stop making it.

How does that indicate a large problem in the game.

Incoming fanboy rage/hate I’m sure, but I tend to agree with you OP for the most part.

Just because you make content frustrating doesn’t mean it’s harder or better. It just means it’s frustrating and a nuisance.

Personally, I haven’t bothered with LS since June, so my message is already sent It’s up to everyone else to use their time as they see fit, and if they enjoy the tedious open world over flow content, more power to them imo!

I really wish they would make like a little survey after each living story to get feedback. I remember way back when they did it for the Karka update….why stop?

There are obvious issues with the mega boss encounters.

1. Overflows make it hard to play with a coordinated group. You have to wait around to have fun if you want to play with coordinated groups due to server hardcaps on players allowed.
2. Hardcaps suck if you disconnect, bcs you have to wait another hour to get back in due to people constantly attempting to join hardcapped servers.
3. No viable in game way to coordinate while still performing objectives, meaning the outermost overflow servers are guaranteed to fail since they are usually mostly individuals or small parties. Also coordinated people taxi into the main server and inner Overflows taking experienced play away from outer overflows.

I think it’s more likely that they would take it as a personal challenge to institute an “epic green dye” that everyone does like. That’s just based off of general history of some flawed logic though tbh.

“It has come to our ultimate understanding that the community, in no way, is ok with the current state of green dyes and would rather they just be removed from the game completely. We understand now that the hundreds of green dyes we’ve released since this issue was brought up have failed and were rejected as a whole by the community. In closing we would like to say, perhaps, you guys will be happy to know that we are FINALLY going to…………………………add an ‘epic new green dye’ to the BLTP for 1200 gems!! We are positive we hit the mark this time and await your positive feedback (all negative criticism on the green dye subject will be deleted…sorry). Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions on the green dye subject as it has helped us get headed back in the proper direction. If there is anything else you would like us to ignore, there is a link to our next ‘CDI Project’ below. Thanks again.”

Exactly my point. Which is why I have no “problem” with the marionette, as long as it’s optional. There’s plenty of game without it.
