The original and stuff you want back?
I’ve played both GW1 and GW2. I don’t see it getting a resurgence of players, it’d need a huge influx of players all at once. Don’t know if it’ll be shutdown or not.
The main things I miss a few classes such as Dervish and Ritualist, the Signet of Capture, and the build template system. Of all those I think templates is the most likely to be added.
As for the discussion about if GW1 is dead. Well it has a few diehard players but most have moved on. I could argue that any MMO is dead because the public thinks it’s dead. Games that are perceived as dead have a hard time getting new players, and an even harder time retaining them if there’s no community to greet the new player. It might keep a few anti-social players but it’s hard to have faith that a game that’s way underpopulated will even stay online much longer.
It’s like going to an understocked store, you start to wonder if they’re going out of business.
As for what Magic Find does. It’s supposed to help you get more and better loot in-game. But since the loot system is controlled but RNG, it can be hard to notice the difference it makes.

I see so magic find will basically help with crafting rare stuff in the end, but not so much Karma accumulation. I guess it is a good thing I have been consuming those essences of luck then. I now have 2%!
Back on topic yes that is what I thought. Oh well I am sure as this game grows in years and is added too people might be less down/ harsh on it when comparing the two games. Dervish and Ritualist sounds interesting. Maybe they will be added when the other dragons are?
i’m wondering who does the maintenance on gw1 as when you go to anything ‘arenanet’ it is 100% gw2.. does ncsoft handle this
as for magic find i can tell you it increases the amount of yellows {rares} you’ll pick up.. however, from personal experience i can only offer the assumption that it does nothing for higher tier mats and exotic drops
I have always thought at GW1’s death throws they will instead make it a single player game and you no longer would need to connect to servers unless it was for a few pvp parts of the game …. I would think they could at least make it single player so those who own it could go back and play as I still do sometimes….heck the guild I am in now is talking about having a TBT to go and play in GW1 that day.
From what I understand when looking up the game play they have said it will not be closing for the moment because the cost of maintaining the servers is tiny compared to GW2 servers. And I know a lot of people have asked for an off line mode.
Perhaps if more people were informed about the existence of GW1 it might go up in population? I know of a lot of people who had never heard of it until 2.
People only had 9 years to know about the existence of GW1 by now.
And it isn’t as if you need more than yourself to play GW1 – in fact solo or duo are the best GW1 modes imo.
I simply want my server back, and instances.

I know that now but nine years ago we would have been about 16 and going from school to either Sixth form or college. Plus the people I am referring too, including myself never have really looked into mmos for various reasons. I know when Wow came out I never had any interest anyway. And it wasn’t the issue of playing alone that made me ask. It is the issue of having to be connected to an online server still and if there will be any left for much longer.

Well with the current rumours of an expansion coming in 2015 some of those could very well be added. Or if not in that then part of the living story maybe?
Edit:

Ah so they did delete some then. You didn’t lose your character/s did you? Or did they get transferred to another server?

I want good, enjoyable farming spots. In GW1, I spent so many hours farming trolls and I loved it.
… do you think it will be shut down soon?
It’s still being sold, by retailers I think, and I am certain it is available on Steam, so I don’t expect them to shut down the servers soon.

Yeah here is a fun fact, you can add GW2 to your game library and use Steams web browser and overlay in game…..just goto Games-Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library…
Great if you don’t want to Tab in and out of the game or you could use another overlay like Overwolf which has specialty apps just for GW2 …note some of these apps are dated though. But I like the overlay in Overwolf more since I can open the browser and size it to my liking and still be playing the game. So if I wanted to look at a map of something I can have it open while walking toward the objective.

Oh thank you. I shall do that when I am next on steam.

No servers were deleted. The person is referring to the MegaServer implementation and the loss of Server identity for some. (You will find players from many different servers in your map.)

Ah right I get you now. I thought they meant their GW1 server had been deleted I didn’t realize they meant the current GW2 mega servers. I don’t think that has happened to me yet but I have no idea how you would even find out.

Well it looks like most of what I wanted from GW1 was already listed in this post.
Maybe the ability to stow pets for good on Rangers, but that’s a minor thing to me.

The only place where your selected world (or server, whichever you want to call it) is unique now is WvW. All PvE maps are megaserver maps which contain multiple worlds.

I see so unless you want to be on the same side when it comes to WvW it doesn’t matter which server you are on then. I shall remember that in case a few people I know decide to join GW2.

Yes this is the one problem I can see when it comes time to make my second toon a Ranger. I won’t want to ever get rid of my starting pet but there are at least three others I want to use and only one spare spot. Maybe they will add this if more creatures get added as tamable Ranger pets.

How about they just fix Rangers and the pets? But stowing and giving us the pets stats would do in the meantime.
Things I want back from GW:
monks
profession specific armor that shows we have completed difficult content (obsidian armor)
Dance emotes that are not horrible:

I’d like to see the general prettiness of GW.
Some kind of solo mode for dungeons. I’m on call 24/7/365. If I get the call while in a dungeon my team mates are left hanging, or if I own the instance they get booted out. maybe a way for instance owners to transfer ownership to another player would do.

Yarr! I be keeping me pirate runes, Matey. Yarr! You’re welcome. Yarr!

There’s no way I’d find the exact quote now, but I’m sure back at one point close to GW2 release when ANet were asked about their plans for the GW1 servers they said they’d be running for at least another 3 years after GW2 release, so the GW1 servers will be up for at least another year yet, most likely. Probably longer.
Of course that’s not to say Anet might not change their mind I guess; GW Beyond was supposed to continue after GW2 release, and well, it didn’t, because they said they needed the team to work on the China release, and well, now that’s out and I still see no signs of them returning to finish up what they started in GW1, so.
Would totally go back and play it some more though if they finally pushed through that Paragon overhaul.

:) Enjoy
But you’ll need Eye of the North as well if you want access to the Hall of Monuments and it’s rewards in GW2.
What I would like to see back from GW are the Missions. Think of Dungeons that you HAD to do in order to progress in the story. You would be blocked from new areas untill you did a Mission. It encouraged grouping in the beginning and replayablity with the mission bonus. I also liked how as you progressed the missions got harder and required more people to complete, 4 in Ascelon up to 8 in Ring Of Fire.
The other thing I’d love to have back has been said already, Guild Halls and GvG. I’d like to add to GvG the reappearance of Heroes Ascent and the Battle Isles. HA was where you went to try out new GvG builds and configurations before taking it into real GvG. It also gave the winning region access to FoW/UW.

(Makes a mote of that) will do when I next get paid. Which will probably be around the time of the summer sale.
Also in response to everyone else I do hope they don’t shut it down any time soon. Since I’m not the only one still buying it. Based on some of the discussions on steam. And yes hopefully most of if not everything mentioned so far will be included in one form or another. Probably through living story if it is going to happen.
Guild Halls. That’s what I miss most of all.
Hunting down special mobs with elite skills with the signet of Capture to get that elite skill.
Vanquishing zones.
Doing challenge modes to get armor for your heroes.
Actually miss fetch quests because lore was written down in them.

So separate missions out side of your personal story and Pve world events? I think I understand what you mean and I do like the idea but wouldn’t that mean you would need enough people of a similar level in order to do that? Or could you just invite anyone to help?

I like the sound of challenge modes and Vanquishing zones. I highly doubt they would do a bunch of fetch quests though unless it was through the living story at some point.
