Lets be honest we all want something different from our MMO

-Some like the grind
-Some like the reward of progression
-Some like pvp
-Some like pve and raids
-Some like the quest
-Some like the exploring

The list is truly endless

I’m wondering what YOUR perfect MMO is! I think GW2 is getting close to that balance needed to satisfy majority of the players out there. No game can be perfect to everyone but they can try to come close with the right balance of gameplay!

So tell me what do YOU want GW2 to be?
Do you think GW2 can master the balance?

GW2 would be horrible with raids, it has no real trinity. It would just be chaos, but… my perfect MMO, and what GW2 would be perfect to me is bringing the old trinity back, but with some flavor. Add some new mechanics to healing and tanking, make them more dynamic and interesting, and let every profession have access to each DPS/Tank/Heal on the fly.

I enjoy everything you listed, minus big heavy grinds, a little is alright but grinds that limit you on how much you can do in a week/day just to prolong them (I’m looking at you, WoW) is just lame.

inb4 mad kids are mad at me.

Ya I am finding myself kinda missing the trinity to be honest…. That was a HUGE team aspect in every part of MMOs with it. GW2 promotes killing the same thing together, not working together to kill it.

Simple, to do what it said “Do what you want to do for end game”

Progression is a vague term, in terms of gear, progression should be cosmetic to balance pvp and pve, guildwars did it right along with other games with pvp in mind.

What I want to do is dungeon and explore and upgrade my gear with new looks.
Am I getting to do that? barely, why? coz Diminishing rewards are screwing up my rewards.

It’s like you said, GW2 promotes killing the target together but not working together to kill the target. I couldn’t have put it better myself. And I was one of the people saying trinity sucks, blah blah, when GW2 wasn’t out yet… thinking it was going to be so amazing without having to look for a group anymore.

Boy was I wrong. I love GW2 but I do miss the trinity.

Yeah I’ll pass, self survivability and coordinated attacks are the way to go.
Depending on a single player to keep you alive with a huge menagerie of skills is just redundant.

I do miss the real teamwork aspect. I miss being blamed for my mistakes (as a healer in other games), which goes to wanting to be more important.

Lol, for some reason i couldnt say wanting and important together or i get bleeped.

GW2 would probably be my ideal MMORPG if it had:

-Open world PvP with player looting and a criminal system (alignment/jail)
-Persistent world (no zoning)
-Non-purpose built areas, like vast forests that you can almost get lost in

That’s in an perfect world though. I love the game how it is. No complaints here.

I think it’s unrealistic or very very difficult to have a perfect game. Like a game that satisfies all your playstyles. Personally, I have multiple games for all my needs. League of legends for PvP, Rift for Pve and raiding, and Skyrim for RPG. It’d be really tough for one game to balance all those things and keep all their players happy.

So…. you think self survivability and coordinated attacks don’t exist in holy trinity???
My rogue in WoW had tons of self heal, evasions, sprints, vanishes, you name it. I was pretty kitten self sufficient, the only thing I couldn’t do was actually tank a dungeon boss if it was current content which sucked.

What makes trinity suck is looking for tanks and healers, not trinity itself. Some people enjoy DPS, some enjoy tanking, and some enjoy healing. We should have that choice. Remember “play your way” ? Yeah… didn’t happen. I can’t even play melee on my thief or I get wtfpwned in 1 shot by bosses that aren’t dodged (I know, kitten dodge, just an example, and dodge isn’t unlimited), FORCING me to go ranged to survive.. again, playing MY way? I think not.

It was one of the biggest selling points and it failed horribly in my eyes. I thought support builds were going to be at least 10 times stronger than they currently are. Party healing is pathetic when mobs can 1shot people.

Basically, current trinity sucks kittens, kittens Kittens KITTENS! Kittens.

Really?

Because I could tank Princess as a rogue in wow, because our warrior tank was a kitten who decided to train his 2 handed sword in the dungeon itself doing no damage at all.

The amount of evasions I did whilst doing high dps was more than enough that the priest didnt have to burn all his mana on me.

But without the priest to back me up, would I have been able to hold Princess on my own, pretty much, but sooner or later I’d die and would need another priest or druid to rez me.

So do I think the holy trinity sucks?
Yes, why?
Because like I said, it makes no sense that I have a huge menagerie of skills and still I depend on another person dedicated on another specialty to heal me because bandages work out of combat.

And you can heal others in Guildwars2, we call it Support.
I can drop a well called HEALing Spring as a ranger and shoot my arrows through it and send regeneration to the frontline, elementalists can do the same, engineers can wear medikits and guardians pretty much own support.

Play the way you want? sure you wanna be a healer, go support via traits, pump up that thing called healing power.

Just remember, if you wanna be support you dont forsake your dps, the moment you do that, your team starts dying, the best way to negate damage is to eliminate the damage source.

Sometimes I drop healing spring even when I dont need it to heal people infront, they dont depend on me for a heal but as a good player and a teamate is in trouble id help them.

So holy trinity and a dedicated healer? no thank you.

And when we say tank in guildwars2, we dont mean, go stand and soak damage like a sponge, we mean go grab aggro and distract the target, thieves can do this effectively, sword rangers too.

Also on my thief, I dagger dagger, its called skill 5 and standing behind a target.
Sometimes I go Sword Pistol, again Skill 5, I ran Caudacus’ Manor with 5 thieves, a range of Dagger Dagger/ Sword Dagger/ Sword Pistol/ Pistol Pistol and Shortbow.
No problems at all.
Just saying.

If you’re having problems staying alive, its all you.

Protip, the main power for a thief is to blind and to vanish.

I rarely ever say this, but as a thief myself… I think you’re not playing it well. Now, before you jump on me and say I am trolling or just going “L2P”… hear me out.

Ranged is definitely easier. We’re actually good at CC thanks to 2 of the pistol skills. We can keep up conditions that increase everyone’s overall damage – and also, with some co-ordination with other players, interrupt those nasty abilities that champions use (note the stacks to 4).

But your main complaint was melee. Yeah, it can get pretty hairy. But I’ve gone balls in and gone up against mobs as melee. Looking for attacking animations is key to know when to dodge. Sometimes it’s not ground AoE visible. And then you see that lovely “Evade” crop up. Specced right, you can be doing up to 4 dodges in the same space that others only have 2.

A thief is a combination of high DPS at melee when save, and evadable, falling back to ranged to CC and/or kite. Wait for some cooldowns, then go back in for a high burst of damage.

I know how to play a thief thanks, my point was I can’t play my way… you know, unless I want to die constantly. I’m sorry if wanting to play a melee class is wrong… I don’t think it is.

GW2 would be horrible with raids, it has no real trinity. It would just be chaos

I agree to a certain extent. But I think it’s more that ArenaNet have yet to find a way to make encounters interesting without the trinity.

The main problem with encounters at the moment is that threat and aggro are not predictable. We have no real idea of how they work or whether they differ between encounters. Because there is no systematic way to control a boss’s aggro, it descends into chaos pretty quickly.

If there was a way to coordinate threat and have people choose to take aggro at various points within the fight, with people then flexing their roles from DPS to support to tanking during the fight, it would feel a lot more coordinated.

The biggest factor though is that encounters are just not difficult or interesting enough. By allowing all class compositions to be viable, ArenaNet have had to lower the difficulty so that nothing particular is really needed, hence all encounters can just be zerged.

Removing the Holy Trinity has done nothing except create voids that are being filled with zergs. Anet knew removing the Holy Trinity was a big risk and it just so happens that this risk did not pay off….

I think raids could be achieved without the trinity new mechanics would be needed, like lock ons and lots of environmental things as well as LARGE ROOMS, game needs proper boss rooms

Aside from that I do miss the trinity a bit, but i could deal with it if we had taunts

The whole “grouping is just chaos and doesn’t allow cooperation” is a L2P issue.
Once you learn to play properly in teams you will realize the incredible depth that the combat system has.

And it’s wasted, because encounters are easy enough that it’s not necessary.

Ya see at this point I feel like without the trinity GW2 is just kind of missing something. I really want to love this game but it feels like an essential part of MMOs has been taken out. And it really isn’t working at the current state.

But I do have hope that ArenaNet can change it into a successful game!

" GW2 promotes killing the same thing together, not working together to kill it."

If you’re talking about DE bosses, this isn’t due to the trinity.

Trinity doesn’t promote more cooperative playing… you can be just as cooperative as all DPS. What trinity promotes is a false sense of need… certain roles being given a higher status than they should merely because most people don’t want to play those roles.

How is all DPS different than 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 DPS? Tank just stands there taking a beating with dedicated healer to make sure he doesn’t die versus everyone taking turns dodging incoming damage/DPSing the boss? The damage is still being mitigated, healed through, you still have to kill the target… what’s different other than the dance?

Well with the way it is now everyone just attacks, there is no variation besides being on the offense, I am finding that I am missing playing a differet role.
