Let me start by saying, I really have enjoyed this game. I have made several good friends who I talk to outside of GW2 and have made some great memories both with said friends and solo.

With that being said…..

I beg an answer from ANET for the question, What do you have against keeping any long term appeal? With all of the recent changes that “improve” the QOL for new players and leave Veteran players (this goes for anyone with an 80 really) fumbling around trying to adapt to these changes (and many don’t seem to be adapting very well)

Heck, even with the Halloween update, and this “QOL” change to the Gem conversion it’s obvious you guys need to re-prioritize. I mean with the gem store, yes I understand simplifying the conversions for quick buys, but there is no reason to take out the manual input. I know several people have used this after buying gems to get them those handful more to get that one extra item. Now, if the Item is 800 and I have 600 I have to buy 400 and have and extra 200 I didn’t want, and will LOSE gold on if I convert it back. What did this fix? And the Halloween event? As a rehash you could of at LEAST put in the stuff from the 2012 Halloween as well. “But the NEW players wont remember the old events so this will be new.” Yes but What about your devoted player base who DO remember.

I know I have gotten long winded, but I honestly am starting to believe long term appeal is out the window, and ANET ( or more specifically NCSoft) only cares about pulling int the $50 from new players, and the most profit from the gem store. Really makes me wonder why I play these days…..

In the span of these 3 years since release they haven’t done anything of substance for long term appeal and veterans.
The game will die out soon enough, just wait for it. No successful MMO pulls these practices and lasts. It’s as simple as that.
Maybe once they see how bad it’s doing, they’ll wise up. That’s all we can hope for.

If they don’t start getting their priorities straight, I see this game becoming not much more then a wasteland very soon (at least between LS)

Most people r “living” from update to update…just to feel disapointed afterwards that it just brings few h to play and many bad changes.

Me and my guildmates were so excited everytimes a big update came..we thought..finally some changes..maybe a new race (when LA got destroyed we thought the tengu will come to help but nothing big happened….) a big new map or new weapon skills…..just things which make u want to play the game 500 more hours…..but everytime after 2 or 4 h we felt so bored already…

many people i know r just farming gold and hopeing for a better future….

for me i used to run around the maps and make events and just follow my nose but now since a group event only have 5 monster per wave..with 3 player….all fun dissapeared

For me all the fun dissapeared in the game i loved so much….

i really hope there will be some changes in the future which helps also vetran players…

They are slowly converting the game from a B2P game where you get lots of free content with an unobtrusive gem store to a Korean F2P grinder where the gem store comes first and everything else comes second.

They have no interest in long term appeal because the focus of korean grinders is to perpetually draw in new players who play through very well polished content and then leave, making room for another wave of new players. Veteran players do not make them money so they try to push us out of the game to reduce the whining for content.

The key to doing this is to slowly increase the interval between content updates, make them less and less substantial, while simultaneously putting more and more into each gem store update. The end result is that 90% of the content that used to come for free will be placed in the gem store and the actual “free” content updates will be window dressing for the stuff you can buy.

I guess anet do not expect anyone to actually play the game for 3 years with pretty much nothing to do so their target demographic is new players not the vets ;p

makes sense tbh

Particle effect slider would be ‘too confusing’

Not sure if you’re trying to be funny…

I’d be worried if people stopped posting messages. It would mean people stopped caring about the game. When people stop caring about the game then that is when the game is truly dead. The fact people keep “QQing” means they still have some glimmer of hope that there is someone on the other side that cares as much about the game as they do and wants to fix things to keep the game from dying.

No. Whining is whining. The fact that people keep “QQing” means they like to whine. There is a difference between QQing and constructive criticism.

Constructive criticism is something I’m sure Anet welcomes (as they should).

Yeah, the attitude referenced in that line of thought is what gives the so-called “fan-boys” a bad reputation for a number of reasons:

  • It’s biased heavily on the dubious position that Devs & game companies can do no wrong, truth is, they get a lot wrong all the time if you pay attention to gaming history
  • It ignores the specific merits of the issue by discounting criticisms and bottling all the “whines” into “one bottle”
  • Constructive criticism sounds reasonable, but often is not even applicable; example: in the case of the gold/gem conversion change…I guess don’t FREAKIN’ change it in the first place would have been constructive, but that’s about as close as you can get.
  • Calling other people who take the time to explain their opinions and back them up with reasoned points should not be called “whiners”, especially when it is rather plain that the name callers show no interest in understanding the problem people are having.

Devs and games companies do get it wrong, agreed.

If there is merit behind a criticism it should certainly be considered. Again, agreed. That said, there is a difference between valid criticisms and whining.

Constructive criticism IS reasonable and, more times than not, is applicable.

People who take the time to explain their opinions and back them up with reasoned points should have those opinions considered, for sure. But again, mindless whining should be dismissed for what it is. I’m willing to bet the devs can tell the difference just like we can.

I’ve read the posts, the short rants of little worth all the way up to the lengthy posts detailing flaws and observations; the Trait Thread alone is nearing 60 pages and it is not all “mindless whining”.

Yes, and if thousands of posts on various subjects that persist for months and result in little to nothing from ANet, what then should we properly conclude?

SNAFU or the failing operation of GW2
There was once a patient (GW2 and its community) who had to do a little routine operation at his apendix.
When he woke up he noticed that his fouling apendix was still inside him. Instead the doctor (Anet) implated him a 3. arm.
P: “Doc why the hell did you implated me a 3. arm? All I needed was to get rid of my fouling apendix?”
D: "Well we thought it was more necessary to give you a 3. arm instead of cutting out the rotting part which could potentially kill you. But now you have a 3 arms instead of just 2 even tough you can only use the third one to scratch your back. "
P: “Hm ok but can you now pls cut out the apendix?”
D: “Sure just give us a little bit more time”
The doc gives the patient a needle with sedatives. When the patient wakes up again he is shocked.
P: "By the six!!!! Why the hell did you removed both of my legs?
D: “It was obvious that you had problem with walking so we cut off both legs. For this you will a fancy but costly wheelchair and a robot who will pull you with a leash around so you never get lost”
P: "Crap!!!! Im dying because of my apendix!!! Just kittening remove it finally and stop trying to fix things of my body which works perfectly fine!!!!
D: “Just calm down we got this”
With that words the doc gave him another dose. When the patient woke up again the horror continued.
P: "You sick son of a Skritt!!! Why did you replace my right eye with that glasseye? And wait, where are the fingers of my 3 arms?
D: “With that glasseye you look much better than before. And since you clearly had problems with walking you also probably had problems with using your hands. Thats why we removed the fingers. And about your fouling apendix, we put a strong sedative in it so you wont feel the pain.”
P: “But its still in me and its killing me!! Why didnt you remove it???”
D: “You know, we were already starting to cut it out but then the lunch break came. After break I was too sleepy from the Quaggan I ate, thats why i just put a sedative in it. By the way that wheelchair needs some expensive batteries which can be only charged in 400 packs, each got enough energy for 1 minute. Oh and did I tell you that your health insurance wont pay for these operations anymore? We were friendly enough to pillage your bank account so you dont have to exhaust yourself with those complicated numbers”
P: “Please just stop it…….”
D: “Nonono what we are doing will make you better than before. We have the knowledge and the ideas. You dont understand anything of this. Thats why we ignore your protests and looking interested when you try to explain yours. And now dont move the next surgery is coming”
P: “Somebody just finish me off already!!!!!!”
