"The story so far" cinematic should...
yes, please bring the cinematic into the game so new players can catch up on the living story.
Well, the cinematic is available when you bring up the launcher. Just a single click will take you to it. That’s pretty ‘in your face’ and everyone sees it, no matter where their logged-into character might be in-game. =)
^ that ^ and that ^ and that too!
I also saw it as an ad on three different videos (out of 5 looked at today) on Youtube.
It woulds till be nice to either have an NPC like Dee or even an item like Marjory’s journal in game.
Actually as the Living Story continues it would be very nice to add a cinematic for each arc to Marjory’s Journal
They could make better use of the Heralds in every city by having them give cinematics of old/upcoming content. They where sort of supposed to do this but frankly they are not useful at all.
All of the above!
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
What new cinematic?
I never noticed it until I saw this thread. I’d bet that most players ignore all parts of the launcher that aren’t being directly interacted with to log in, and that even frequent Forum Users (a small minority of all players) don’t often go to the Front Page.
Anyway, just watched it. It reminded me how little of this Living Story I actually bothered to keep up with. As soon as I’d missed one part due to work obligations, I was incapable of mustering care for anything that came after. It will be nice to have this arc done, and ANet hopefully learning from their numerous mistakes before crapping out the next arc.
I never pay attention to what’s on the launcher.
Didn’t know about this video until now.
I’m not sure that people that don’t pay attention to the launcher will pay attention to heralds, or some other more obscure NPC that you must travel to. But, maybe they would.
Usually, it’s the people seeking information that find it.
Offtopic .. but .. has anyone else “Carry on my Wayward Son” in the ear when reading "The Story so far .. " ?
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Regarding the launcher, I have “play now” checked so I never see the news on the patcher. If it were posted in the forums news and announcements section I would probably see it though.
I also got it in my email, so people should be getting it either through the launcher or email. Not sure how it would fit in-game though….
Maybe they should just put TVs in all of the bars that we can interact with to view cinematics, trailers and such. :P

I know, right? After so many seasons of Supernatural, even if the new ones don’t have this song any more, I still hear it. They should totally do a spoof of of this in-game, just like they did with Indy. That would be awesome!!!!!
I agree that it should be in the game and that the heralds would be perfect people to show it.
A bit like in GW1 where you could speak to an NPC in every mission outpost to replay the cinematic that introduced the mission and get an overview of the story so far.

The news thing doesn’t show up until you log in and I have ‘auto play’ checked so as soon as I’m logged in it loads the game.
The only time I see the news is when there’s a big update and downloading it takes longer than logging in. But then the news is inevitably that there’s a patch and as soon as I see it’s downloading something I’ll have gone to the wiki to see the patch notes so I never read that either.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I think that every player should receive some in-game book, like one of those we’ve got in GW1.
It should be something like a in-game informer, could be built into UI. It would save your stories, lore you’ve experienced…
Think about that. Something similar to Personal Story tab, but much bigger.
Every time you complete a new dungeon, story or explorable, done something with lore (possible future findings? Maybe?) – like small in-game wiki expanding by your account progression. You’ve talked about some lore stuff with NPC? Why your character shouldn’t make some quick notes from that? You’ve experienced something with Living Story, got any in-game knowledge? Why not have easy and fast access to your character personal notes about these things? You know, working just like some quick reviser
with possible built link to gw2 wiki if you want more knowledge on the topic.
It could also have some built-in links stuff, like “The Tyria Times”. You know, informating you about videos like this or new patch notes, reviews and leaving links to them. Just like another tab.
I think it would increase player understanding in a huge way. Also, if you come back after some time to the game, you’d be able to quickly revise what’s recent about your character + check on latest updates summary/story summary for you.
I really hope that one day, when I click on, for example, amulet of the mursaat in the vendor tab, I’ll see a quick descreption like now, followed by “Want to know more about Mursaat? Read more!”.

The song is always in the last episode of a season, and it was still in the last of Season 8
