Just curious to what the community thinks is the most underwhelming legendary weapon. I understand the underwater weapons are barely used but that doesn’t make them necessarily underwhelming. So what do you think? And why do you think this particular weapon is lackluster? Such as the footfalls, projectiles, sounds and / or aura?

Personally I have to say the howler because you can’t hear the howl, the howl animation doesn’t work with all skills, the aura is nearly see through, and the footfalls are short, can appear too close or under the ground, and are barely noticeable.

So far the greatswords feel the most un-legendary to me, although the Longbow are close behind.

A weapon that looks more like a surfboard than a sword seems worthy of ridicule to me.

Really? Because I think the trail effect makes them the most impressive legendary.

Personally I would say the minstrel, it’s just a harp focus with nothing else special.

See, to me, a big flashy, eye searing, neon sign that screams, “LOOK AT ME!!!” is not necessarily impressive. Its off-putting.

To each their own I guess. I just personally love trail effects and the non solid look of the blades.

It took me a very long time to understand why people liked the greatswords so much. I normally play with the camera zoomed out, behind and above my character, so to me Twilight looks like a black rectangle and Sunrise looks like a light red rectangle.

It was only when I happened to load into a map where my camera was briefly shifted to ground level because there was a wall right behind me, and there happened to be a norn standing on top of my character with Sunrise that I realised if you look at it from just the right angle it’s a sky pattern.

But 99% of the time they still look like fuzzy, blank rectangles.

Other than that I’m not sure what I’d pick. I rarely see Howler or The Minstrel but I’m not sure if that’s because they’re not very noticeable or simply because people don’t use them often.

For me, it is Eternity.

It is a cost of 2 legendary, a uncontrollable skin change mechanics and a glowing handle.

I preferred to keep my Sunrise and Twilight instead.

Besides, I also vote for Moot and Quip. Mace supposed to be more like a Paladin weapon to me, Moot looks like a joking weapon instead. Same goes for Quip, its looks like a toy than a weapon. I just prefer more serious looks.

Quip. I fail to understand what it even is meant to be.

I disagree with the underwater ones – in fact compared to the other skins for underwater weapons, actually the strongest legendaries in that regard.

Moot is my fav

Just a reminder: the OP asked about legendaries you think look underwhelming, not ones you just don’t like or think are too flashy.

For example a lot of people really hate the Dreamer. They find the look of the bow, the sounds and especially the giant flashy unicorn projectiles annoying, tacky, childish etc. but I don’t think anyone could ever call it underwhelming. You couldn’t stand next to someone who’s using it and not notice.

Personally I think Quip could fall into both categories. I know a lot of people don’t like it because it looks (and sounds) silly but it’s also quite small, the sounds it makes are fairly quiet – distinctive on their own but easily lost in the general sounds of a battle and the projectile effects are quite subtle too.

On other hand the Moot is another silly legendary, but I can’t imagine not noticing it. Between the sound and the light and the flashing effects it really stands out. (Especially when a certain massive norn is using 2 of them.)

People like different things, I have to agree though, The GS’s look ugly, along with most of them. The only one I like I have, The Flame seeker prophecies. If I made any of the others I’d skin over them.

I like:

  1. Kudzu (own it)
  2. Predator
  3. Meteorlogicus (own it)
  4. Nevermore
  5. Bolt (working on it)
  6. Astralaria
  7. Juggernaut
  8. Howler
  9. The Flameseeker Phrophecies
  10. Frostfang
  11. Rodgorts Flame
  12. Incinerator
  13. Minstrel

Less Legendary: not really a legendary feel (yet?)

  1. Chupachup and Chupa-what?… (Chuka and Champawat) (like the pre more then the finished product)
  2. Star Wars (H.O.P.E.)

I do not think these are legendary: I’m annoyed seeing people running around and wielding these. Yes, they stand out, however I do not consider them legendary, but generally more of a nuisance….

  1. The Screaming Ponybow (Dreamer)
  2. The Serpentine Party pistol (Quip)
  3. The Discoball (The Moot)
  4. The Blur-s (Any GreatSword: Sunrise ,Twilight and Eternity) (like the pres more then the finished product, but all 5 are ugly. )

I like the 3 underwater weapons, but I’d never craft them.

ANet always gives massive love to its greatswords. From skins to skills, greatsword or bust.
… :\

As for unimpressive, I wouldn’t say greatswords are anywhere near that. Dreamer can die in a fire. Howler is unimpressive in how little ANet seems to care about getting it right.

I’d have to say Bolt. Design wise, it’s a complete kittening mess – awful silhouette, and looks like the designer got the two definitions of “Fencing” mixed up. Part of it, though, may simply be my own beliefs about what a legendary sword should be.)

Bolt’s concept would have been amazing as a spear or trident, but it fails as a sword.

Dreamer and Kudzu should have switched bow designs. Let the Longbow be the one that sends majestic unicorns flying across the battlefield (Galloping in an arc, and one at a time unless using a skill that sends an entire stampede), and the Shortbow be the flowery one!

And by replacing Kraitkin with a lightning storm trident lets Elementalists use it.

I think the scepter’s concept is cool. The problem with it is the developer forgot to take a step back from his work and realize the silhouette was a piece of popcorn.

[…]!

I have Kudzu (best part are the 3d ground effect flowers sprouting as you walk. I have Eternity and love staring at the sky or the galaxies in it and the swish paint of the sky. I have Nevermore and while I thought it’d be my fav when finished, it’s foot falls are subpar, the kitten raven crows every time it lands (when mining, chopping, gathering etc), the orbs are turquoise, but the weapon out equipped effect is blue and blocks your face..combat wise its fantastic. The wood is crap tho…why such an ugly stick for the perch?!

But but but..I main sword/axe more than anything and have for 3 years til they changed the animation I had gotten used to (yes Im in the minority and loved it). Point is, Bolt looks like ..the word eludes me, the stuff they make railings and stair case stuff with..not a sword at all. the animation is fantastic. Frostfang is fantastically fugly and too large for my character ( weapons don’t scale well on female humans, some anyway)

So for years it was bonetti and the eternal search for an axe I liked. When the merciless set came out I was enamored. but now sword animation is meh ( a wind up seriously? look at my hand its fixing to hit you with this sword, i’m not kidding). Seems like it’d do well in high lvl fracs/raids and pvp where u need that split sec dodge..but the chain could always be broken, you could (I didn’t) mash 1 over and over, or get to know the pauses in the animation and dodge at will.

TLDR: Bolt Underwhelms with its flimsy holes. Frostfang could be so much more than a slightly better looking corrupted axe :/

Kudzu is easily the dumbest looking legendary, just all around the worst. If bolt didn’t have the cool lightning effects it would just be an ugly sword. Minstrel is the definition of unimpressive and it just has nothing at all going on for it.

It’s a shame that some legendaries haven’t had any of their effects improved at all but the stupid pony bow has been updated like 4 separate times to make it even more obnoxious.

PS I miss axe 4 too. It was probably changed to be more of an instant interrupt and break bar breaker, but the old range had a timing of its own and you could toss it as you ran up to a mob, itd a big hit, but not interupt until it returned and that mob was in its cast of whatever you wanted interupted.

Besides, axe 4, followed by a word 3, spinning the mob around as the axe returned and knocked it on its kitten was a beautiful thing. S/A so misunderstood. The mobs of Orr had to have hated it more than any other combo

The pony bow is easily the worst, although Bolt is the most underwhelming. At least Bolt wasn’t such an awful legendary that the Developers had to prioritize Shortbow as the legendary weapon, preventing them from making another longbow, so that when Chuka+Champawat was made, combined with the kittenty design decision to make a separate “Long Bow” and “Short Bow” in the first place (Don’t give me “But long and short bows are different weapons!” bullkitten – they’re a lot more similar in form, use, and function than rapiers, scimitars, broadswords, and short swords are. And yet all FOUR of those are considered the same weapon in this game), so now we have a legendary bow based on Hunting that cannot be used by two of the three professions most drawn to the hunt (Warrior, in search of ever-greater challenge, and Dragonhunter. You know, the profession that hunts dragons. But isn’t allowed to hunt them with Tigers?)
