"The world is full" - Wintersday Annoyances
My complaints:
1. STILL cant enter toypocalypse with friends. They have had an entire year to fix this….
2. LA has no wintersday decorations. Not such a huge deal but its the main city and it killed the atmosphere for me.
3. Event is still less than it was on year 1, infinarium doesnt visit other cities and tixx’s workshop has no progression. Cant craft mini’s only get them through achievements.
Thats about it really. Everything else is ok with me
I agree the ‘world is full’ bug is annoying, but it doesn’t actually prevent you entering, it just takes a few tries. I’ve found it’s easiest to talk to the NPC instead of going through the portal, and if it doesn’t work the first time you can just try again. It’s never taken me more than 4 tries, and that takes a few seconds to do.
I don’t agree that other players are a problem. All of the platforms are big enough that you don’t need to know exactly where your character is, just which platform they’re on and you can tell that without being able to see them. Even if you’re alone trying to see exactly where your character is between jumps is a waste of time that will hurt your chance of success far more than an imprecise jump.
Invisible objects are annoying, but I think that’s a lag problem which Anet has very little control over. (I’ve noticed it only happens to me when I’m getting lag in other areas too.)
The presents are annoying, but again it’s not a major problem. They do despawn and reappear periodically even without anyone jumping on them so you can just wait. It may make farming presents less than perfectly efficient, but that’s reality for you.

It isn’t that we can’t see the platform we’re on. We can’t see the next one. The one we’re supposed to jump to. If we can’t see where we’re supposed to jump to, we can’t judge if we need a small jump or a long jump. Or if where we’re jumping is a small landing pad or a large landing pad (aka: how much error room is there).
I haven’t done the Wintersday jumping puzzle in a long time because of my low jumping puzzle skills. The frustration I get makes it not fun. And part of the frustration came from big characters like Charr and Norn getting in front of me, keeping me from seeing where I’m supposed to jump to next. And then next thing I know the platform I’m on has melted and I have to restart. Or I guess and I overshoot or undershoot or jump too far to the left or too far to the rightbecause I couldn’t see where I was jumping to.
Over these past three days i’ve never been able to get into the jp without at least 6 tries, usually it’s 10+. And when i do succeed on the 10th try the load screen gets interrupted by the divinity’s reach load screen and i’m back in the city, and i try 10 more times, and im back in divinity’s reach AGAIN. :-) It wasn’t this bad during halloween so why is it such a huge issue now?
I don’t understand how other people’s characters can be big enough that you can’t see the next platform, unless you’re doing the puzzle in first person, or with the camera zoomed right in.
And if you are then that’s your first problem. I do the puzzle with the camera zoomed all the way out, above and slightly behind my character (and with action camera on so I don’t need to hold down the right mouse button). Like that even huge charr are small enough that I can see everything except what’s immediately below them.

(Snip)
This was posted a couple of days ago about partying up with Toypocalypse
After the 2013 Toypocalypse there were changes to the game that broke the underlying functionality for Toypocalypse. For 2014 the team was trying to fix the bug (and really, they went up past the absolute last second to try and fix it) but ultimately had to decide between the activity working or being cut – it was that unplayable. It wasn’t a lightly made decision, especially since it had worked the year before and players liked it.
The team would still like to fix it but it isn’t a simple switch or anything. Reverting the change would break significant other parts of the game.
Soo…. I would rather queue with friends too, but I’d also like to be able to do the activity. It’s a rough tossup.
ANet may give it to you.

Take a big charr or norn, add on a pair of boneless wings?
I don’t care if the kittening map is full or not, if you’re not gonna let me join the stupid JP then at least don’t start loading me in just to switch mid loading back to DR.
I have more loading time than actual play time just because I always load half the JP and then back to DR.
I just reported this bug: GW2 Personal Winter Wonderland JP Bug
Not sure if it’s connected to the “world full” problem. However it would not surprise me if it was.
“The world you are attempting to join was programmed by monkeys and doesn’t work. Please try again when Anet stops being bad.”

Just got this bug. Was about to report on it, but you’ve done better.
Having your own instance is amazing for this map.
It’s completely and utterly amateurish. An absolute embarrassment to themselves and their coding.
Clearly they don’t know how to implement these things without major problems, so my suggestion would be to make it a normal instance like we have for dungeons/zones/raid etc. That way we’ll be able to join our friends, and not have to put up with this silliness.
Anyone would think we’re back in 1995 with all these basic problems. Anet, wake up, stop trying to be ‘clever’ and just make it reliable so it actually works for your consumer; whom you depend upon for your livelihood.
I think I tried about 30 times late at night even before I just gave up.
I must have bad luck because I’m on my 20th try entering the JP and I keep on getting redirected back to DR. Haven’t been able to play it this year but last year I had absolutely no problem. I’m entering it via the NPC rather than the portal just to make sure there is a map open.
The funny thing is: When the map closes and it fails to put you on a new one because the new one “is full” you get to stay on the existing map and don’t have to fear any timer anymore. Well, there’s still the cold ticks, so the JP doesn’t get easyer, but at least you don’t get a loading screen and a forced restart every 30 minutes anymore.
Also, as people are leaving the instance but no one can enter, you’ll soon have your personal instance.

I take it you don’t take Asura on jumping puzzles often.
Fully zoomed out a tall Norn or Charr can obscure where you jump to next. The Wintersday one you can swing the camera around, but that takes more time, time you may not have.
Especially if the Norn or Charr have on armor that makes them wider as well. Or a larger backpack. The wings come to mind.
