Theory: "Key Farm" getting nerfed
Hopefully once they nerf the key farm they vastly improve the chest loot to compensate and make them actually worth spending money on.
Its a waste of time compared to other farming methods… no big deal if it happens.
So the farmers have a few weeks to bust out some good piles of keys. I like key farmers, they get tickets and sell new weapons lol.
To be honest, key farming being nerfed wouldn’t bug me. It was ‘abused’ a lot, and I’m sure it’s the main reason why gem store skins are so cheap gold-wise.
I would be disappointed if they nerf key farming.
It’s the only reason black lion ticket items are as affordable as they are now.
If they nerf the farm, it’s another money grab move trying to make people to buy keys from the gem store..

I don’t mind, but I feel for key farmers. It’s a normal game mechanics, and I have seen “speed run” for it (15min?) which is absurd. Because I’m pretty sure it’s more than 15min, creating/deleting character and having to go thru all that stuff just to get the key.

If they want to restrict the key farmers, why not just limit the amount of characters you can create per day instead? If you can only create, let’s say, three new characters per day, that should be more efficient against farming without hindering the people who just want to play the game.
Besides, hasn’t Anet in the past said they don’t mind people farming keys this way? Why would they now want to nerf it?
If they’re going to carry over a lot of changes from the Chinese version to the Western version just to make a quick buck, I might just consider not playing anymore. The Chinese version simply sounds horrible and it’s definitely not the game I’m currently playing. They might as well sell the GW2 franchise to those guys who make Candy Crush or something.
Umm if it weren’t for Key Farmers, those TP skins would cost a lot more when released because guess what no one would place them in the market.
Considering the awful RNG in those Chests no one would spend real money on that kitten
And eventually when I got nothing to do I like to farm those 1 scrap just so I can get the next weapon skin (if it’s good, and they usually are)
Go go KEY FARMERS. WE LOVE U
P.S. Usually these anti-farming topics are posted by someone who has hoarded up on those skins and know how much the price would skyrocket if they nerf it. Nice try though.
P.P.S. Burst PS doesn’t mean they’ll reduce the prize for completing, just make it more rewarding when you complete it.

If this is P2W then illuminati are involved with the production of this game…Serious guys, take your “shieat” together. I haven’t see more paranoid guys since…ever! If Im not misstaken, last time I heard they had educated econimist working together with the developers…they will make a profit out of the changes to BTP and Tp but risking making the game go south faster than WW2 is not something they are planing to do anytime soon.
So please, go home and drink some tea and shut the hell up.
Well, I would not mind if they hit that.
I will never like anything that is profitable though continuous mindless repetition.
But, if they do that, they should compensate by doing something like increasing drop rate of keys (ye, they DO drop), or maybe adding them to the laurel vendor, or moving keys and other consumable rewards to the very end of the personal story with a little boost in numbers (e.g.: 5-10 keys, 5-6 TM crystals, etc)
Maybe that way people would start partying up to do the personal story and speed things up.
And maybe also make it repeatable for the start with a button that is grayed until the whole story has been beaten, but once beaten the button can be pressed to reset the story back to the first mission after the initial instance, so people don’t have to delete and make new characters repeatedly.
Allowing to reset personal story, along skins becoming unlocked account wide (so a cultural armor can be removed from gear without being lost and unusable) would also allow race change consumables to be added. Changing your race would not only reset story to the level 2 quest after the initial instance, but completely reset the first personal story choices and send you back downscaled to the initial instance.
I seriously doubt that they had the key farm in mind while they were discussing how they can make the game more immersive and easier to learn for brand new players. If it gets nerfed because of these changes, then it was probably not intentional.
I ve farmed keys, its kinda entertaining, and fun to try to win big with a ticket. If it goes, that will be sad, but mostly it will just make anything that comes from a black lion chest more expensive, past the point of value. they already have 300 gold skins, imagine the costs.
It’s possible that this could happen. If so I would not say that the main purpose of it was not to hit key farming as such, that would just be a bonus for them.
Solution: start saving all of those lvl 20 scroll items that you get here and there along with the lvl up scrolls.
Anet of course could instead offer new instant lvl 10 items in the gemstore, you never know lol….
If they nerf key farming they would not increase the drop rates because of gold → gems. Also because the whole purpose of RNG boxes is to get as much money as possible from people by tickling the gambling addiction nerve with little chance of getting something good.
Well, I would not mind if they hit that.

Uh, have you played this game? That’s like…at least seventy percent of the content.

Of course it will be intentional, no need to be naive. Most people who farm keys will not buy them from the store even if the run is nerfed (I sure won’t) but if they get even a few people buying, they’re already won.
Although I do have to wonder why now, since the whole key farming thing is not very efficient time-wise and has gone on for a long time.

I’ll be sad if this happens.
Not that I key farm, oh heck no. Never, too boring for me. However, I’m sure all the other people who key-farm are the ones responsible for putting up all the BLC weapon skins on the TP for halfway decent prices which I can in turn go and buy. If the key farm goes, I expect a signifigant jump in BLC skin prices even when they’re only 1 ticket.

its more fun because you can be OP and one hit kill things, its faster paced than most other content, and at the end you get an item that you cant get via other means, that can give you access to items you cant get by other means, in a nice rng box (as much as people claim they hate rng, well handled random is one of the most used gaming hooks in all games) where the big win is big, and the small win is crap.
“The key farm” was not intentional in the launch of the game. It’s not a nerf.
You can buy keys by converting gold to gems.

the key farm is the only reason the BL chests contribute to the economy. the drop rate of anything usefull is way too low to be worth 9 gold. One of the main problems with the gem store/exchange is that the prices are fixed, this means every gem store item is competing with other items in value
lets say on average opening 40 chests would give you either 10 scraps or a ticket, that would put the price of the gem store weapons at a absolute minimum of 360 gold after the first month they would be 360-1800 gold. since very few people would spend that, it would mean black lion chests would not be worth the money, hence no one would buy them, or try to get the skins, which means black lion key items wouldnt be increasing the demand for gold, or gem—>gold conversions. which means it would actually make less money, and be a system that adds no value to the game.
now, if they change drop rates at the same time, who knows what the effect would be, but i can tell you right now, i dont think anyone would benefit long term from reducing the ways of obtaining keys through specific gameplay.
I’m not sure it will get nerfed, Anet has been asked multiple times if the farming, and by connection, the method of blitz farming is ‘working as intended’ and basically the answer was always “YUP”
Without citing specific posts, several people have suggested that a change to the Chinese Release version of the personal story is motivated only by a desire to make the game experience better.
This game is developed, owned and operated by corporations. Every single decision made in any well managed corporation is always driven by, or at least reviewed for its impact on, the bottom line. Any action that seems to be otherwise has been deemed to be in the best overall interest of the enterprise in building or retaining goodwill (customer loyalty, public perception – which affects stock price, etc.)
A classic example is the company that donates a million dollars to fund medical research and spends 40 million dollars advertising the fact.
So while it may be completely true that a change in character progression, or the myriad other changes in the works, will make the game a better experience (and attract and retain more players → Ka-ching!) the idea that its effect on Key Farming was never considered is naive at best.
If this change is made I am sure that it will still be perfectly ok for player to key farm .
The fact that Black Lion Chests are just a bad deal, except under very special circumstances, and then only using free Keys or Keys bought on sale as cheaply as possible, is a problem in the BL department’s management philosophy.
