The other day I was in lion’s arch standing there in front of the TP with my engineer testing something out with new skills, while I was standing there after around 10 minutes I started to notice something as ppl ran past and my mouse hovered over them!

Warriors…. every 5/10 players that ran past me where warriors! I sat there for a good 30 minutes watching the classes run past and was gob smacked by the amount of warriors that ran past me on desolation server- the next highest gaurdian/thiefs and mesmers!
I saw only a few engineers and rangers and as for elementalist well they must be the rarest played class as I very seldom spotted one- in the entire time I was there like only 5 ran past me!

If the trend continues with the way arenanet is coming up with non existent “glitches” to warrant nerfs like the ranger sb issue and the countless other class nerfs this game is truly going to turn into Warrior Wars 2!

On the plus side you can call WvWvW – Warriors v Warriors v Warriors :P
It all works out the same now lol!

Huh?

I see a good amount of all classes on my server (Eredon Terrace). Thieves seems to be the rarest there (at least in Queensdale) but not by a lot. Engies have been thinning out a whole lot now..I think people just realized that they’re purely support class and left for greener pasture.

True, though it’s very likely that people have more than one character at this point in time and reserve one for PvE and another for PvP/WvW.

I’ve seen a pretty hefty amount of warriors on my own server and to be honest, I can understand why. Erratic adjustments to other professions have left many under-performing in PvE whilst a warrior can quite easily perform exceptionally well at PvE even when in the hands of a beginner.

It doesn’t help that certain professions aren’t as advertised. Elementalists are a prime example, described as a DPS class whilst hitting much less than other professions and being shoved into a supportive role in most fights.

Warriors are playing PvE because they don’t have any stealth/teleport/portal skills to exploit the rendering failings of the game engine in WvW, nor any AOE/reflection/retaliation mechanics to exploit the broken siege/LOS issues.

It’s not easy being an average guy with a sword – in a world full of spinning, invisible, reflecting, teleporting freaks.

I was saying this weeks ago.
Guardians and warriors are pretty much the best PVE classes. (not sure about PVP) They have more survivability than other classes and put out about the same dps too…at least the warriors do.

As for the rangers…IDK… that class seems pretty popular with the BOTs. lol.

Warriors excel in PvE because they are versatile, they are resilient and they are durable enough to take on almost any situation and literally chew through it. No other class has the same amount of raw survivability combined with such an impressive damage output. All this makes them ideal for end-game farming, which is where most people who stick with the game, will be spending the majority of their time.

Basically, everyone should roll a Warrior for their first character, cap them, then use them to farm. That way, they’ll be able to get resources at all levels quickly and efficiently that their other characters can use. If they start with a different profession, they’ll just be kittening their farming potential until they can bring a Warrior up to 80. Might as well start it.

I think more and more people are starting to realize it, which is why you’re seeing more and more Warriors. I sure wish I’d gone with one for my first character, instead of learning about their effectiveness on my last alt. So much farming time squandered…

I wish I started a warrior before my thief.

Seeing them run in and pull 3-4 mobs at a time at a lower level while my thief was having trouble with 1 at a time almost made me quit a few times.

Thieves are awful at PvE compared to warriors. Too squishy for the amount of dps they put out.

Same, I see more guardians, but I still see plenty of warriors. Rarely a thief or engineer, I can understand why my main at 80 is an engineer and I love him in PVE, but otherwise I didn’t feel like just being support all the time.

My guardian and warrior are tied for my next level 80, I will switch back and forth between them and can’t decide which one to keep, so I just play both.

I agree with the Warrior PvE sentiments. Warrior was my first character and it was a breeze. I can’t solo Champions as easily as a Guardian can (not that that’s ever easy or quick, but Guardians have way more tools for those circumstances), but I could stand toe to toe with pretty much any Veteran I encountered, adds not usually presenting much of a problem.

I’ve been struggling to figure out what my next class to play is. I’ve got a Guardian at 30 and that’s about it. I’ve taken all the other classes to maybe 10 or so and tried out all the weapons, and nothing has been really appealing. Warriors are just straight up fun in combat, where as Thieves and Elementalists make me feel like I’m doing work just to play the game, which isn’t the experience I’m looking for.

Having recently made a Warrior, I say this: they are popular for a reason! This is purely from a PvE perspective, mind you.

On my Warrior, I can take multiple mobs without a sweat. I don’t have to run around like a nut (i.e. kiting) to avoid death if I get multiple mobs or even one particularly hard hitter. I kill stuff at a respectable speed. I can go through caves, mob-infested POI’s, and skill challenges without other people around to help. In short: it is simply a more efficient class than some others are and I get a lot more “bang for my buck” as far as effort I put in vs. how effective my character is.

Yes, I do enjoy my other classes, but after an hour or two of Epic Battles with normal mobs and waiting for other players to come along so I can do a certain thing on my Ele . . . I really love playing my Warrior.

I certainly do see a ton of heavy armor wearers, though I don’t find it strange at all.

Could be an interesting set of numbers.

See how the professions stand in the five 1-15 areas. Compare with, say, the level 30 and 40 areas, the the 60-70 range, then Frostgorge, then Orr (bots could skew those numbers), then WvW.

Well I take it from the high number of lvl 80 warriors that ran past me- not really focused on the lower levels when I was checking as its quite easy to get to lvl 40-50 quickly- its from the 50 to 80 range that people tend to see if a character will shine and warriors seem to excel at all levels!

But seriously, when most of the bots at Cursed Shore (though they’re usually rangers in other places) are warriors Anet has to ask themselves why that would be and help make elementalists and others more farm friendly.

If not only the most balanced and simplest to pick-up-and-play profession, the Warrior is also the “coolest”.

But generally the Warrior is always the most popular class in RPGs (usually the “main” character in jRPGs from Lunar to FF7) and it’s nothing out of the ordinary to see Warrior more than other professions.

I didn’t really think about it too much when I created my Warrior, but I’m glad I did. Maining a Mesmer doesn’t lend itself well to farming trophies very efficiently, but I still prefer playing it compared to a Warrior. If I want to take it easy and have a fun time, I play Mesmer, if I want to play with a purpose, I play anything but a Mesmer(dungeons not counting).

Funny, writing that reminds me a lot of how I played my Mesmer in GW1 before their FC and AoEs were buffed.

my first 100% map complete character was a warrior and i found it to be very lacking. I dropped it as my main and now have a thief at 100% map completion.

the thief, with its positional requirements in melee combat and mobility on every weapon set, is so much more enjoyable to play.

its my opinion that there are so many warriors only because thats the only class those people have played and they dont realize how much greener the grass is on the other side.

OP, the only reason you barely see any engis, my self included, is because they are extremely underperforming in PvE. I my self have one to almost lvl 80…..i just gave up on it and playing with my lvl 80 warrior now.

I have also tried Necro, Ele, Guardian, and the other class that is close to effective as the warrior is the Guardian. The other classes are sorely lacking.

Let us all band together and ask Anet to split Pve and PvP stats. It will make for a better and healthy game in the long run.

Warriors pretty much have it all. Damage, Range, Durability, Support, the works. I’ve shelved my 80 Mesmer because the only thing he seems to be good for is Time Warp and Feedback.

I get that Mesmers are good in PvP, but it’s pretty poor design that Warriors can just faceroll their keyboards and outperform Mesmers in PvE.

Nothing surprising about that really. It’s extremely easy to play, a brain dead monkey could play a warrior successfully, and it combines high survivability with high damage output. My first character in this game was a warrior and leveling was really fun. You basically don’t care about anything. You see a group of mobs (even in Orr)? No problem, you can rush right into it. That’s how confident playing that profession makes you feel. In fact it was so easy, greatsword + 5 signets of course, that I was sometimes feeling a bit embarrassed about it. So that’s why you’re seeing so many of them, easy+efficient. Although once 80, like a lot of people, I got really bored so I leveled an alt, a ranger. Since I had been mostly melee for about 2 weeks I wanted to go full range dps this time. And to my surprise the ranger was even easier to level than the warrior. I very rarely died. Not really difficult mind you when it’s the pet who’s taking almost all damages. While you’re safely dpsing from a distance. You have to be more careful though, you can’t rush into groups of mobs anymore. But now that stupid shortbow nerf killed my ranger, killed all the fun I was having with it, so it’s basically useless. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

well for me gw was split for pve and pvp and that what killed pvp play for me in gw.ii like gw2 atm if it changed to a pve/pvp split i will leave. Anyways i hear so many say lol at warrior range in wvw. I wvw all the time as a warrior and i range but i don’t range all the time. Some people really don’t know what a warrior’s role is well a warrior has alot of good roles there
1 what i call the dps zerg runner where at least 2+ warriors keep a speed boost on the zerg at all times the best way would be warhorn as banner’s could mess with dps but you can also get the banner’s stat boost also and this method will require 2 banners in the utility slot and is to have your aoe/support more usefull skills
2. run and gun saw this was made but i had a simaliar concept before i knew about riffle for small pick ups and will need to be switched to a bow when taking towers and facing another zerg then a melee set to dps them down
3. dps gate smasher (for taking and defending) well it’s not meant to smash the gate but who ever is there and you are basicly hugging the wall for people by it *note make sure a ram is not up when defending you will get knocked back and remeber to make sure there are gate smashers there to make this effort worth the while

there are more most include seige equipment though

Burst classes like thieves will always end up being slightly more prominent in pvp due to stealth naturally offering more advantage vs a human.

Warrior is about as difficult to handle as hitting the broad side of a barn with a handful of gravel, just look at how many 5 signet warriors you see with greatswords. They’re about as original as a microsoft idea, and about as reliable as the Irish NHS.

Well, I wouldn’t say they are the coolest. Not to me at least. In fact, I find them to be the dullest profession to play and much prefer almost any other, just for the fun factor. But Warriors are, hands down, the most effective profession at all aspects of PvE. That’s why I rolled one. I’m just tired of feeling like I have to work twice as hard for half the payoff. But when I’m with friends and my goal is just to have a good time, I’ll always switch to another toon. It doesn’t matter which one. I prefer all of them to my Warrior. Solo though? Assuming you’re not just trolling, the only way a warrior could kill nine people at once with hundred blades is if everyone just stood there waiting to be killed. At best, a warrior can only lock down one, maybe two players at a time.
