The Holy Trinity may be “hidden” but it will always be there. Unless a MMO decides to remove Healing and Defense completely, or atleast make them nearly worthless. The Holy Trinity reaches out to the heart of majority of gamers.

Some want to be in the middle of a group taking them all on(Tank). Some enjoy having a group of players lives in their hands or just enjoy helping(Healing). The rest just want to wreak havoc with swing of a weapon or the chanting of magical words(Damage).

2/3 of a MMORPG playerbase is not going to let go of their inner…nerd(?). We all have a little role-playing nerd inside of us, don’t deny it.

In GW2 the roles may be blurred but I see nothing wrong with letting players be how they want. A Tanky class can help keep others alive longer, can stand “in the fire” to rez others easier, and doesn’t worry about dying as much. A healer does the same as any other RPG, but they now have a more proactive role(with increased damage, same as a “tank” in gw2).

Let players play how they want. The only thing that matters is if the group is successful. If not, it probably has to do more with skill than a play style.

I don’t wanna live a thousand years. If I just live through today, that’ll be enough.

The best way I explained this game, to myself, is that it is like Diablo III in its combat mechanics. Yet, at the same time I don’t really get its combat system. Maybe it is difficult for me to grasp, or maybe the devs haven’t spoken up about how they wanted the system to work.

But the way I look at the dungeons would be like how I look at playing against a boss in Co-op in Diablo III. There is no aggro managing class, no healer, but there is utility across the board for all. So the best way to approach this game isn’t via conventional means at all. You have to think of it like a dungeon crawler.
